You are the future of figure skating, or, so you can be.

You are one of the most promising rookies of the season, and your promise hasn’t went undetected. You are scouted to join the olympics team of top figure skaters, a team formed by the eccentric top figure skater Heidi Valentine. In preparation for that years winter games.

THE STAR

Heidi Valentine |m|

Description: 5’9. Long limbs, littered with various bruises. Black, almost blue hair growing out to his collarbone, caramel skin and eyes a light brown. A dimple in his right cheek.

Heidi is the one who scouted you for his team, and to him, you are his muse.

People who loved him, called him…eccentric. People who hated him called him a raging lunatic. Either way, love him or hated him, you had to admit he was a living legend. His skill couldn’t be denied. At least, not in the figure skating world. He’d dominated the figure skating community at a world level, leaving a trail of gold medals in his wake. And yet, inexplicably, the day of his 20th birthday he’d retired. At 21 years old he’d already lived the life, figure skaters years older could only dream of. A life he was now offering to you, his muse.

Description: 6’3. Inky hair gathered in a small ponytail at their nape, aquiline/Roman nose. Big eyes and long lashes. They are long with knobby knees, and large hands.

It’s no secret they dislike you. After all, before you came along they were the one supposed to be scouted for the team Heidi was forming.

They will surpass you. They will do better than you, and they will never admit they watch videos of your skating at night with admiration. Never that.

Your notes: every time you run into them they start threatening to surpass you? Offered them a water and they told you your efforts to seduce them wouldn’t work, turned red and started stammering.

THE COMPETITION

Wisteria Florian |f|

Description: 5’6. Hair in dark braids, usually tied up in a high bun. Upturned eyes and a full mouth. She has a small tooth gap when she smiles.

Wisteria was already scouted to play in the olympics two years ago, when she was 19. She trains under the same coach as you, and yet she was the one that was chosen, straining your relationship with her.

She’s arrogant and makes no pretence about it, she’s also loyal, supportive and more protective than someone who’s supposed to be your natural competitor should have been.

Your notes: she gave you a tray of food and other self care products, with the note; for your health. Not that you’ll be able to surpass me, even in top condition. You’re currently unsure if it was an attempt at kindness or if you should be annoyed and seek revenge.

THE PRODIGY

Alexis Kimura |m|

Description: 6’0. Angular, upturned eyes. Dark hair, pale skin and pale lips. Sharp features that create an intimidating look.

Everyone knew about Alexis. Whe he was born he was already proclaimed the future of pro figure skating. After all, his mother was the famed figure skating icon, Suzuki Kimura, and from his skill to birthline, there was no doubt he’d be nothing short of a legend.

Your notes: a little emotionally stunted, more shy than he portrays, and with a good heart underneath, you think you could get along…if he stopped acting like socializing would give him a plague.

The Great Nation of Alyera had known only prosperity since the young monarch of the royal family took the throne. Great things were promised, and delivered, and nothing seemed to be able to stop the growing bonds within the nation.

Until the monarch’s consort perished…

Until you died… Due to an assassination attempt on the monarch’s life.

Wrought with grief and anger, the Monarch of Alyera promised revenge on all those that took their love from them; no matter the lives that may be taken in order to conquer such a feat.

A land of prosperity and harmony soon falling into war and bloodshed. Something that no one could stop due to the power of the royal family.

It’s for that very reason that the rebel group enacted a ritual that would transport someone to the past; before the kind monarch turned dark.

It’s for that very reason you were resurrected— from your place in limbo— to go back in time and stop the love of your life from turning into something they never should have been.

Will you be able to succeed? Even if it means letting them fall in love with someone else?

Shaerian, or simply Shae, has been the prospective heir of Alyera since they were born— bypassing their older brother completely. With a gentle heart, that’s filled with compassion, and a warriors spirit, it’s no wonder that Shaerian would later become the ruling monarch of the great elven kingdom.

It’s only when they chose you, a simple human, as their consort that any sort of disfavor for their rule became known, but Shae wouldn’t hear any of it. They didn’t care as long as they had you by their side…

If only you had been able to stay there.

It was easy for the residents of Celea to underestimate Elex, to only see nem as lazy, overly flirtatious, and too easily distracted and remain blind to how nir eyes missed nothing. Ne is, in fact, a highly intelligent individual who can talk nir way in and out of any situation and is now regarded as the highest priority target due to nir strategies alone. Yet, you knew the kind of danger they presented long ago, and it left Elex reeling when you went to nem for strategic advice. From that moment, you were, and still are, thoroughly under nir skin.

You, starlight, are the definition of a hot mess. Lucky for me, that’s exactly how I like my deities.

Out of all who fell, Hayle was the most shocking. Xe was sweet, outgoing, and always ready to lend an ear and a healing hand to those who were in need, so it was widely suspected that xe had been abducted rather than gone willingly. However, Hayle proved that rumour to be spectacularly false by personally sending the members of xyr rescue party back in several pieces. A move that even you didn’t see coming. You had been just as drawn in by xem as everyone else and even considered xem a close friend. It makes you no different to anyone else, so xyr interest in you is a mystery to everyone but xem.

You have such pretty eyes. I want them to always be looking at me.

Chapter 3 Part 1 is finally here!

Part 1 of Chapter 3 brings with it an additional 25.5K words of new content. Now, the total word count so far is around 107K words. I'm currently working hard on writing and finishing Chapter 3 Part 2, and I'm already more than halfway through it.

I would recommend restarting and playing the game from the beginning so the skills and abilities stats will be more accurately represented in Chapter 3, which will include some stat checks. There are also additional clothing options for Female and NB MC for the party in Chapter 2 and additional flavour texts where Grandpa will react accordingly to the pre-set names you choose for the pistols.

Chapter 3 Part 1 also have a large amount of variations based on MC's skills stat, which I hope all of you will be able to explore!

Some things to expect from Chapter 3 Part 1:

Get some new gears for the mission.

Not low key, Heidi frequently likes playing with his life by finding new ways to acquire Alexis’ anger, and when it comes to Heidi, Alexis has a short temper 😭

He respects Heidi (though he’d never admit it aloud) but is also unendingly irritated with his behavior.

You can choose what country you were playing for before, but the country you’re playing for in the olympics is whichever one Heidi is coaching. (Which I’m pretty sure I’ll give you the option to choose as well.)

Heidi:

The official color Heidi’s stylist normally dressed him in is gold or silver, to complement his eyes, think gold beading, lace, and always black jeans. I got this one picture online (Enhypen’s Victorian prince outfits) and thought it was a good reference, but like more lace and less restricting.

Nari:

They normally wear black and/or red. A form fitting shirt with no sleeves and a high neck, etc, or all, but then their makeup makes up for the lack of color in their outfit. Silver patterns on the forehead, cheeks, etc.

Wisteria:

She wears all white a lot, that of all black, lots of beading, sparkles, etc.

Alexis:

Black and dark blue, sheer material, elaborate beading. Also commonly wears all white, like a lace white button up.

How would the ROs react to a MC that’s to kiss them but their too smol

Heidi:

Honestly, initially Heidi is surprised, after staying so long with Alexis and Nari, both who cast twin shadows over him when they pass him by, this is a surprise. And then, he's struck by how cute that is. You're cute. So cute, for a moment he's content to watch you struggle.

Those thoughts disappearing when you catch the front of his shirt, bringing him to your size, and capturing his lips with your own.

"You're cute," Heidi said, pressing his lips against yours, laughing. "Really, really cute."

Nari:

Nari is used to people being smaller than them, in height anyway. Still they can't help their first reaction, cursing their height. Thinking back to every moment they opted to drink milk instead of, they don't know, juice like other kids.

You smiled, as if knowing their inner turmoil, taking their hand in yours, stepping back onto the staircase behind you. One step, two step, three step.

Nari couldn't help but smile, grabbing your hand and lacing your fingers to stop you. "You would have been okay at the second step. You just want to be taller than me, don't you?"

Your silence was all the answer they needed, lips curling further, you had that effect on them. Even when they hadn't wanted too. Pulling you closer by your hand, thumb running over the lines of your face, and kissing you.

Wisteria:

That's a pleasant surprise, really she was tired of being the shortest in the group, taking your face in her palms, and squishing your cheeks because she can't help it, you're cute.

"What do you think you're doing?" Face unimpressed and voice muffled by her hands on your cheeks.

"Holding onto the cutest thing in the world."

"Can you switch from 'holding' to 'kissing'?"

"Anything you want." Pushing you against the wall, her lips finding yours.

Alexis:

Alexis thinks that's cute, and he doesn't find many things other than cats, and heart shaped cacti cute. Resting his forehead against yours, hands cupping your face.

"And how should we fix this," voice hoarse, unable to prevent from teasing you. "Should I kneel?"

"Would you?"

"You know that I would." Leaning down even further and pressing his lips against yours. Against your lips; "If you asked."

Heidi smiled, before he'd realized, nodding his head along. For some reason, his heartbeat picking up.

"You're married?!" One incredulous fan shattering the sound of wedding bells in Heidi's mind.

"Ah," Heidi blinked, heart in his throat. Turning to glance at you. Can't we just pretend. For a little bit. "No. No, we're not married."

"Would it be so bad?" You said, glancing at him out of the corner of your eye.

And Heidi wondered why he heard blood racing in his ears. Why you'd said it like that, soft, gentle. Why it was hard to meet your eyes, and yet almost impossible to look away.

"No, it wouldn't be so bad."

And the smile he received in return was an award on the same level as winning gold, silver, bronze.

Nari:

Nari's sure you said that to sabotage them. To stop their head from thinking straight and make them look like a fool in front of all the fans gathered. "Pfft," Nari said, chest tightening. "Y-you, you wish." And if their voice was strained, well honestly, they thought it should be allowed.

Your lips curling up impishly; "You're the one who wishes."

Nari really didn't know how to answer that, for a moment thought of embarrassingly domestic things, coffee and getting ready in the morning and-of course you were openly grinning at them now.

"I don't." Nari said, their voice mutinously betraying them, and turned quickly to signing an autograph to dispel such thoughts from their head. And to prevent any further teasing.

Glanced up to where you were still smiling, like the cat who'd gotten the cream.

"I don't." And now they weren't sure if they were convincing you, or themself.

Wisteria:

Well, wasn't that just darling.

You shot a glance in her direction, likely already predicting the onslaught of teasing you were about to be subject to. "You know," Wisteria said, feeling her mouth turn into a smile that was less teasing, and more genuine. "I make a very mean breakfast."

"I've seen you burn salad before."

"...must you bring that up?" She could admit the only thing she was good at was baking. And that was only because she'd been gifted a baking cookbook when she was in third grade, her cooking abilities started in page 1 and stopped at page 32 of the baking handbook.

Even so, she couldn't help but think of the idea. Mornings with you, she wondered if you'd go to coffee shops together, cooking together, domestic things. You, lacing up the knots of her skates, her lacing yours.

"And the bride?" You, smiling at her silence. "Is that silence you contemplating an 'I do'."

She didn't need to contemplate. "If you make me coffee a minimum of every morning, I'll consider it."

"With cream." You answered, smile teasing.

Alexis:

Alexis' brows rose, almost to his hairline, and then he was no longer looking at the fans gathered in front of them, eyes seeping into your profile, examining you.

Eyes that immediately slid away when you turned to look at him, looking for something to settle on, finding nothing, and returning to meet your gaze again.

"Ah, sorry." You said, smiling.

Of course, it was just a slip of the tongue. Of course.

Don't be sorry. "Huh." Alexis said in acknowledgement, not trusting himself to say anything more. Waiting until your attention was pulled back by the gathering fans, then taking in your profile again, examining every detail.

Huh. Wiping at his mouth as if that would prevent the traitorous smile that was forming.

what are the ro’s skating styles, and can the mc choose their own? ex: elegant, aggressive, powerful, etc

The MC will have the ability to choose a starting skill which they’re strongest at, whether that’s jumps, turns, speed, strength etc.

As well as if the mc picks a hockey background their skating style will automatically raise in speed and aggression, versus if the MC chooses a gymnastics background their skating style will raise in terms of elegance and artistry, as well as flexibility.

(This is kind of a spoiler, so skim if you don’t want to read; but the MC will have a nickname/ callsign that will also allow you to choose what kind of skating MC has done before hand.)

Your strengths will also add in different areas depending on who or what you spend your time training with.

As for the RO’s;

Heidi:

Heidi is a more aggressive skater, which is more uncommon, and had some of the best execution of jumps in any competition he partook in, earning the most points in his jumps and turns. When he was a figure skater, he was number one, and he remains as such, even after a year of skating inactivity, because his world record is yet to be surpassed.

Nari:

Nari is more of a meticulous skater. There isn’t one wasted movement in any of their skating, and it’s very unlikely for them to ever differ from the choreo. While this might be a weakness for others, their obsessiveness to detail is what has allowed them to stand at an olympic level. (And is also one of the reasons Heidi was interested in you and not them.)

Wisteria:

Wisteria is the poster image of talent, and she specializes in spins. She is extremely light on her feet, and her body is especially limber, allowing her to have full and perfect control of every one of her limbs, and creating the most beautiful images and silhouettes on the ice. Her skating is so pretty that she managed something that most professional skaters don’t (being the only figure skater that Alexis, number two in the world, acknowledges.) She lacks power at times in contrast.

Alexis:

While Alexis is as obsessed with detail as Nari, he actually is likely to simply not follow a choreo if he thinks it’s stifling, boring or limiting, much to his coaches dismay. One word about him, is he is fast, and by far the most elegant of the pair because of his history in ballet. He has nearly zero flaws, as expected of the prodigy, and any flaws are forgotten when you see him skate. If you could see past his flawless skating you’d notice that he struggles a lot with artistry, and even more with expressing the emotions in the piece.

It always ends the same.

A glimmer of hope (𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙚) snuffed out before they can reach it. A promise of absolution (𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙚) broken once more.

They rage at the world around them. At the prison they can never escape, hemmed in by mist and shadow. At the shackles of fate that bind them, constricting around their throat - their eyes - their hands; coiling (𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧) until the fight is squeezed out of them completely. Without anger to fuel them, they are forced to submit - forced to acknowledge the feelings they had buried long ago.

A Dread Reflection is an upcoming 18+ horror interactive fiction game based in the D&D setting of Ravenloft. The game is currently in early development and is being made with Twine.

As previously mentioned, there is currently an unfinished branch that prematurely ends the chapter. This branch will be patched in at the end of the year, along with other improvements to the UI, menus, music, and more. Additionally, we suggest playing through the prologue as several fixes were made that may interfere with the new content.
