It’s been ages since I’ve posted anything creative and people are always asking me if I’m “still doing my Barbies”. The answer is undeniably YES. I am always working on *something*, it’s just that I can’t bring myself to post anything until I feel like it’s finished. Since “finished” feels like “never”, I’m gonna try and adjust my expectations (we’ll see!). That being said, I do have some things I hope to post soon, but here is a little piece that has been burning a hole in my pocket for awhile, so he gets to go first. The stand is chip board and metal, with a wood grain vinyl. The turntable is polystyrene, metal, and rubber, and the records are polystyrene with cardboard and vellum covers. It’s official! We have a new baby girl in the family and her name is LuLu. We were unsure, at first, if she would be a good fit for Jazzy, but after spending the week together, they warmed up to each other, are starting to play together, and may even become buddies! Lulu is bright and energetic with the sweetest cuddles, and she very much has the same spirit as Pepper, which fills our hearts with joy. Barbie got a spiral staircase. I swear I’m channeling my 8 yr. old self with all these things I’m coming up with (ya think? 😂). It brings me back to the time I tried to make Barbie a horse using papier-mâché (true story). I tried my hardest to get these #ChristmasDiorama finished by Christmas, but when Christmas quickly came and went, they became #HolidayDiorama and had a New Year’s deadline. Although I’m still not completely finished (is it ever?), there’s enough to show (finally!). We had to let our sweet Pepperoncini go last night. She’d been in poor health for awhile, so we knew it was coming, but things happened pretty suddenly nonetheless. There’s never enough time. She did make it to 13 years, though - a solid life by dog standards. Deep down I hoped that she’d make it to be one of those 17 yr. old wonder dogs. Pepper wasn’t much of a dog’s dog - something that perplexed both Otis and Jazzy. She was mama’s girl - always by my side, always at my feet, and oftentimes under my feet. She slept when I slept and woke when I woke, she sat when I sat and stood when I stood, and then sat when I sat again. Nothing brought me more joy than the pitter patter of her little feet on the floor and the jingle of her nubby tail. At times she seemed so tiny and vulnerable in our giant human world, but she was a fierce protector and ferocious in her own mind. No one got past without knowing that she was there keeping a watch on things for us. At bedtime, I liked to put her on my pillow to sleep by my head, so I could fall asleep to the sounds of her grunting and squeaking in her sleep. Rest In Peace my little munchkin. My friend Crystal had a very unique request for her son’s name sign. She wanted it to have a sun/lion theme for his July Leo birthday. For a while I was working on a very different design, but then I scratched it because I couldn’t get what was in my head to manifest in my materials. Some more walls for my #barbieworld. Same deal as last time - one scene on each side of a single board, except this time I’m attaching two boards end to end to fit the wall into a corner. I’ve been very diligently working on my next Barbie diorama and I thought I’d post some progress. These are background walls I’ve painted. It’s one board with a wall on each side. I have to find a way to stabilize the board so it doesn’t keep bending from the paints, but otherwise I think they’re looking pretty real. Ever heard of “Covid Arm”? Me neither! So yesterday I noticed a bit of soreness on my shoulder and armpit. I had been rubbing it all day, thinking I had strained my arm the day before while lifting some equipment. Then last night (still not making any connection) I started having a reaction on my skin - hives, heat, and tenderness. I thought something bit me. It wasn’t until today, when Josh said something about the vaccine, that I realized it had been exactly 7 days since we got ours. I’m having a “delayed cutaneous reaction”, or “Covid Arm”, specifically related to the Moderna vaccine. Makes sense because this is how my body reacts to sulfa drugs. I’m reading on the internet that it’s nothing but annoying and that I should still get my second dose, but it also says that it’s very rare - less than 1% affected. My suspicion is that it may not be so rare, but that most people, like me, aren’t even making the connection. I do know for sure that practically no one is talking about it. The CDC has one tiny blurb on their website and the NEJM did publish a report (can be treated with OTC pain medication and Benadryl).
