D23: No Frozen content? | Breakdown/ Analysis
So yeah no kind of Frozen content at D23. Some of us expected that so there's no surprise there but some of us kind of wanted a little something even if it was small. But next year seems more positive than this year as it will be the year before the release of the third movie. But let me discuss why I think there was nothing today but there definitely will or at least should definitely be next year hopefully.
Last year's 2023 recap
Let's first take a look at what we got last year. If you want a deep dive detailed breakdown of last year's D23, I made a whole post about it when it happened! But if not, I'll give a brief update here. If you don't want a recap just scroll down to the why no content this year? section.
Last year, in August 2024's D23, we got a decent amount of content to get us going for a few months. Just before the event had started, we got a leak of the logo from Frozen 3. It featured a pink gradient on the III. Beside the log there were two snowflakes (symbolising the two Fifth Spirits, Elsa and Anna) and the four elemental spirits crystals. Behind the logo was a blurred image of some mountains and cherry blossom trees hinting that Frozen 3 would take place in Spring as Frozen took place in Summer (and arguably Winter), Frozen Fever in Summer, Olaf's Frozen Adventure in Winter, and Frozen 2 in Autumn (and Winter at the very end of the movie). But we weren't sure if this logo was true or not.
But when the event had started, and it was Frozen's turn to feed us, the board showed a different logo looking like a mix of Frozen I and II's logo. So we assumed the leaked one was fake.
Jennifer Lee then had a whole board full of fan questions that would potentially be answered in Frozen 3. Jennifer Lee reveals that Frozen 3 is set to be released on November 24th 2027.
The questions were so intriguing and did not disappoint! They were related to Hans' current status, Ahtohallan's interior design, who actually is the Frozen Heart, Elsa's powers, Kristoff being King and how he met Sven, etc. I tried to answer them in the D23 2024 post.
Then we got presented with our very first look at a Frozen 3 concept art.
Illustrated by Brittany Lee, it looked stunning. Elsa and Anna on horses travelling through a forest looking at what people theorise as Valhalla but is unconfirmed what it actually is. There also happens to be a mysterious viking-like shadow behind the sisters. Now with "Valhalla" and the "Vikings", we knew Norse mythology would have a more heavy influence in this three-quel. But it's definitely not new. See my part 1 and 2 posts about Norse mythology in the Frozen universe.
After the panel, or the event Josh Gad posted an Instagram carousel post regarding Frozen 3 with the caption “Something wicked this way comes. See you '27 #frozen3❄️ ⛄”. The post featured the concept art, the leaked Frozen 3 logo, the revealed Frozen 3 logo, and a still of Frozen 2 with the release date text. This post confirms that the leaked logo is true as well. Perhaps that was just a concept of what the final logo would look like. For now the official, used logo is the one revealed at the event, being the Frozen 2 logo but instead of the rock, it's the ice.
But yeah we were served well last year, so why not this year?
Why no content this year?
It seems like they must be super busy with production. What stage? No one knows yet. Either that or they're at a stage where they don't want to reveal anything yet as they're still working on it. They do still have time and it's better than rushing to give us something now. Despite the disappointment, it must be for a good reason that only time will tell.
Will there be Frozen 3 content next year (2026)?
Yes, I'm pretty sure there will be! It should be the biggest update we have gotten on the movie yet. I expect a few casting announcements, or a still from the movie, teaser or anything along those lines. Toy Story 5 is set to release next year and this year we got a first look at some old and new characters. So something like that for Frozen but I expect more because it's a big movie so they need to build up the hype and anticipation.
Frozen 2 began voice recording in 2017 and was set to release in 2019, but Frozen 1 began recording in 2012, a year before release in 2013. So it makes sense they start voicing next year and we should know about it either through an official announcement or by an actor's social media posts or story.
And yeah it feels like a long way away but really it's not. Last year's D23 felt like yesterday. This year's almost over and then it'll be 2026, the year prior to the release of Frozen 3. I know with Frozen 3 in late 2027 would mean them doing most of their promotion and trailers that year but a build up and a few more teases are bound to happen next year hopefully.
What was the latest update given to us on F3?
The last update we heard was by Josh Gad in an article interview (I broke it down here) basically saying he doesn't know much because the team have deliberately kept the cast and crew in the dark so they don't feel bad if they accidentally revealed something they won't or avoid it which is fair tbh.

Little Red on display at Destination D23!
Disney officially unveiled the opening scene of ‘Zootopia 2’ during Destination D23. Although there had been prior speculation, no segment of the original song by Shakira and Ed Sheeran—created for the film’s soundtrack—was featured in the presentation.
