As the world spun lazily around, Slater closed her eyes and let her head fall back, feeling her stomach lurch every now and then. She sat perfectly still, besides the occasional kick at the ground to get herself going again, and tried to find some metaphorical meaning in what she was doing.
I'm not moving my body, but the world is still spinning, she thought. Even if I feel stuck, the world keeps turning. It wasn't often she let the melancholy of her life drag her down, but it was hard not to get caught up in thought when she spent her life alone.
As she stuck her leg out to push herself faster, she heard the sound of grass crunching under someone's feet. Hoping that feigning ignorance would send whoever was approaching away, she didn't bother looking up.
Crowley sighed, placing a hand on her hip. “It’s a bit life or death.” She pulled out her wallet and flicked through it as she continued. “No, it’s just the outside that they’re watching. The inside is warded against me—me specifically, which means I can’t just go in and out on a whim, I’d have to go in like everyone else. You, on the other hand, are innocent enough, and they don’t care about anyone other than me, so they wont pay you much mind.”
She finally found what she was looking for and pulled out two crisp hundred dollar bills, and handed them to the vampire. “I’m giving you this in good faith. Return the box to me and you’ll get another eight hundred.” Money was a good motivator she thought, supernatural creature or no.
Forcing herself to sober up, Slater nodded solemnly. "Right, very serious then," she murmured before the woman could continue. After that, though, she stayed quiet until she was handed the money, listening to what the demon had to say.
As she pocketed the cash, Slater flashed a bright smile. "No worries, ma'am, I've got this in the bag. Where do I meet you when I've got the goods?"
"They’re one of the most resilient species of multicellular Organians. Ehm, no, wait. Organizations. No. Organisms, yeah, tha’ one."
"Exactly! They're tiny, but they can survive so much..."
"Probably why I love them so much. Besides the fact that they're adorable, anyway."
"Train!" He pointed at her as though she’d solved a complex equation. "Yes! A train station! Tha’s a stupid word to forge’, sorry," he apologized, withdrawing almost ashamedly. "I’m sor’ of…no’ quite well."
Sighing, Slater shook her head. "It's alright. Tell you what, I'll give you a walk to the station since I'm feeling generous today," she offered. Even if it didn't end up being an enjoyable walk, she figured there had to be some type of gain she could get from it. What that gain would be, she didn't know yet, but it couldn't hurt to try. Besides, it's not like she had anything better to do.
