I REALLY like how you did Ezra. That dragon face looks so much like his human face, it really fits! He is cute as hell and I hope you draw more of him. Does he know how to fly yet? Maybe he needs to learn from his new dragon family! Can he roar yet, or does he just squawk indignantly and huff? Does Kanan have to coach him to growl and roar and properly breathe fire?
Oooooh, I have so many cute ideas for Dragon Ezra! Ezra chasing squirrels or birds, Ezra digging for hidden treasure or maybe just bugs, Ezra finding gold nuggets in a riverbed–I think this dragon has a real eye for treasure, and maybe a hoard? Thief, after all–and bringing them to Hera, Ezra purring like a little scale-kitten, Ezra being licked clean by Kanan and squalling the whole time like NO STAHP I HATE BATHS, Ezra diving for fish, Ezra sneezing fire and scorching things, Ezra as an itty bitty hatchling that can crawl into saddlebags or perch on Hera’s shoulder, Ezra getting a bubble bath, Hera brushing Ezra’s dragon teeth and telling him how he’s growing big boy fangs and ooooh aren’t you a fearsome little beast? Ezra with a guilty dog face after he burnt/chewed/buried something important, Ezra rolling in flowers, Ezra snoozing in silly positions like draped over Kanan’s head or sprawled on his back with his tongue out and snoring, Ezra curled up under blankets with Hera like HOLD ME MOMMY, Ezra getting belly rubs, Ezra discovering the wonders of bacon and being a total sucker for a treat, Ezra carrying a loth-cat in an imitation of how Kanan carries him while the tooka is Not Amused, (I think he still has his connection talent in this AU, maybe the wild critters help keep him safe as a baby?) Ezra as Sabine’s art guinea pig and ending up painted and polished and beautified a dozen different ways, Ezra getting into Sabine’s paint and leaving rainbow pawprints everywhere, Ezra and Zeb wrestling, Ezra being very curious and watching every little thing humans do, Ezra and clockwork Chopper feuding, Ezra chasing his tail, Ezra biting and chewing on Kanan like an annoying puppy, Ezra playing with children, Ezra wearing silly hats and other accessories Sabine made, Ezra discovering snow like WHAT IS THIS MUST DIG MUST FROLIC SUCH FUN, Ezra accidentally burning Hera and immediately licking her all over like DON’T WORRY I MAKE IT BETTER.
Oh, oh! I forgot to mention a Hera outfit idea earlier. I was thinking about giving her a helmet that had stylized bits to look like a dragon’s face, and have her use shed scales or whatever to build armor.
Hmmm, flexible scales? Are you thinking about just the crest and belly stuff or the entire hide? Both sound pretty cool, tbh. Maybe the scales are set so that they can puff or flatten like layers of fur? So…like…if a dragon shook themselves you could hear the scales rustling/clattering. One thing to consider with the crests and stuff are fin/wing-like frills, that can flutter and be moved with much more precision and freedom.
Dragon speech is a tricky one. Maybe they can sort of talk, but it’s all growly and slow? I get the sense that older dragons are better at whatever method of communication there is. A young dragon doesn’t know any words, and in the case of telepathic communication, probably just speaks in images/feelings/impressions. Personally, I like the idea of physical speech because it lets me play with cute ideas like Ezra saying “Mama!” and Kallus having to re-learn speech. I have a little scene in my head where he meets up with the rebel dragons and tries to talk, but he coughs a lot of smoke and can only do one clumsy word at a time, like “Nnnooott….fffiiiighght” (Think R in “Warm Bodies”) He might end up writing in the dirt out of frustration, but his ABCs are crap so he has trouble spelling and stuff. I liked the idea I had where “Kallus” was his imperial name and he chooses, “Alexander” as his new one, but flubs it a bit and it ends up “Aleksanduurrrr”.
Lastly, is that beard thingy on Kanan hair or a scaly…horn feature? I like dragons with hair beards and manes and whatnot, personally, with the size/length correlating with age. Plus, this would allow Kallus to have his famous sideburns and luscious locks! And Sabine could braid it ‘n stuff; maybe give Kanan one of those pharaoh beards like you see in ancient Egyptian pictures.
Okay, one last thing and then I’ll shut myself up. I was wondering if the dewclaw on your dragons functions like a thumb, because dragons with grabby claws can do cool stuff like snatch prey and carry people and make gestures and tend to their teensy riders…somehow. Can you imagine Kanan delicately plucking an apple off a tree or picking up a human by their shirt collar?
