British female track and field athletes are being asked to cover the cost of their own £185 sex tests if they want to compete internationally.

World Athletics now requires all athletes to undergo a SRY gene test before competing in the female category at major championships and Diamond League events, in a move designed to guarantee fair competition by excluding DSD (differences of sex development) competitors and transgender women.

Before the World Championships in Tokyo in September, World Athletics provided financial support to national federations to the tune of $100 per test for the thousand or so female athletes requiring the once-in-a-lifetime assessment. Further funding will be provided by the international federation for this year’s World Junior Championships.

I wish they would have used intersex rather than DSD. Differences is better than disordered, but the term preferred by most intersex peoplr is INTERSEX.

This is literally so pointless (the gene testing not your addition.) Intersex women with XY chromosomes wouldn't even have a biological advantage! The whole reason their bodies would have developed as female is because of an insensitivity to androgens in the womb! They wouldn't naturally have more testosterone or have a body with the alleged advantages people think trans women would have from being born male because they didn't even go though any sort of natural masculinization.

Ok, but the whole switch from testosterone levels to gene testing means they very explicitly don't care about any kind of physical advantage anymore, the policy is literally just to exclude trans and intersex women for the sake of it
