So, I need to tell you guys what has been happening today. For context, back in January 16, my friend group jokingly made a promise to one of our friends (let's call them H) that we will get them the Lego Cullen House set. Like the minifigs, the wolf, the car, everything.

Here's the thing though: my friend fucking hates Twilight, like they read the books but they still don't like the series at all. So for the giggles we decided to make a promise that we would send H the Lego set on their birthday. However, the idea didn't come to fruition.

Or so we thought.

The box came in months, several months before their birthday, and everyone was confused and baffled. No one knew who sent the package. No one said anything about sending it out legitimately. There was a conversation about it today but it got shut down due to H not knowing if they have room for it.

However, stick with me, this person didn't just send H a Lego set, no.

They also sent a separate package that had a letter from Edward Cullen wanting to fuck their husband, and a framed PNG of a signed Edward Cullen autograph.

And you may be thinking "Bork, what if they just look at the sender address to find who sent it?" well the thing is that the sender was Edward Cullen. WE DON'T KNOW WHO IT IS. THEY PRE-PLANNED THIS DAYS, WEEKS, OR EVEN MONTHS FOR THIS. AND NO ONE HAS FESSED UP.

I need to emphasize that we had no clue this would happen. This came out of nowhere, at a time where all of us thought it wouldn't actually happen, and then the UPS guy came and like changed the game. We have been accusing each other of who sent this for hours!

The wax seal is real. The legos are real. Someone wrote in cursive to have Edward tell H's husband that he wants him, that is real. The frame is on their wall right now as we speak.

We still don't know who it was.

The Zoo Part 2 is finally out!

Summary: After escaping the Zooman enclosure, Stevonnie does some recon on the Zoo.

The sterile halls of the zoo stretched in every direction, gently curving in one direction or the other. That made it hard to spot Stevonnie down a hall, but it also hid any enemy gems from their eyes. They walked with careful, silent steps, listening at doors for empty rooms and placing their palm on the entry consoles. They found empty classrooms, rooms that housed younger versions of the odd fruit trees they’d eaten from before, and closets full of equipment, but no data terminals or control centers. Every room opened at their touch--either Pink Diamond had access to everything even in this memorial for her loss, or the rooms weren’t secured at all.

They finally found a room that proved the latter theory by the simple act of refusing to open, blinking an angry red light at them when they tried. “Great. Security.” They grinned, bouncing the wedge rock they’d used to escape in their hand. “Security means something to secure. So what’s worth hiding in a zoo?”

They planted the rock in the seam just as before, and slammed with a bubbled fist to hammer it deep. The door whined, but inch by inch it gave way until again they were able to slip their fingers through the gap and wrench it open.

The door shut them into a darker space, a huge room with a raised balcony showing the rose-tinted stars outside. It all surrounded a giant cushion softly lit in pink. The dim light radiated to the edges, but it reflected from thousands of drifting orbs overhead. Their mouth dried out as they recognized them. “Bubbled gems? Why?” Stevonnie asked. They stepped further in and made a leap towards one, gently bringing it back to the floor with them.

“It’s… oh. Oh no.”

The bubble slipped from their fingers as the realization poured over them - a mixture of Connie’s horror and Steven’s guilt that made Stevonnie split.

Steven gasped, heart racing, and his hand clutched at his chest. “They’re quartzes. Rose quartzes. After Mom pretended to be one, faked her shattering… they must have been rounded up. All of these gems, they’re trapped because of me.” He stared up into the soft pink clouds of bubbles, each a tiny prison, and his hand dropped to rest on the gem in his belly. “This is my fault.”

Most people didn’t like Kevin’s redemption ark. And I get that 3 episodes is a bit much time to dedicate to a character we never see again. But don’t you think it was beautiful how he slowly grew and learns to better himself? Even if you don’t you have to agree that the kiss him and Stevonnie shared at that party was a perfect moment.

You know, I never see anyone talking about this and it’s a shame.

First of all, I understand the gut repulsion for Kevin. He’s really cool, and cool people do oppress non-cool people. Most of SU’s audience is made up of non-cool people, which is honestly something I find hard to relate to as a superstar model/artist/singer/basketweaver and part-time writer, but I’ll do my best to be sympathetic to those less fortunate.

Personally, I think cool people are extremely oppressed. I understand that Kevin was a dick, but he had a lot of money, which must have been very hard for him. Imagine being so much better than everyone else you never had to try and work for anything? When you really think about it, this is actually very sad. Possibly sadder than anything else you can experience in life. I mean, I know it’s hard to be born with glass bones and paper skin, but at least you can still have goals.

Kevin, like most cool people, is a modern-day Alexander. He weeps for there are no more worlds for him to conquer. Oh my god I’m so choked up I can barely type. Hold on. I need to take a breather.

Alright, I donated to Jeff Bezos, since he recently suffered a tragic loss and became the second richest person in the world. Hopefully I can help that poor man get back on top where he deserves to be. I feel a little better now.

Anyway, I really felt like the three-episode arc was a bit rushed, which was the primary problem. I think Kevin’s redemption needed at least five episodes to really feel well-rounded and reassuring to the wealthy-endowed folx at home. After suffering that much luxury in his life, I feel like it would take him longer to overcome that toxic upbringing and be the kind person he is inside.

But, given the time that they had, I thought it was really good! Kevin buying a new car to drive around the children’s hospital to cheer them up with hopes that they could somehow be as rich as Kevin was really heartwarming. Him removing the candy from that greedy child’s hand at the end of the episode, to ensure the child’s health in the future via removing sugar, was a very subtle nod to the little ways we can improve the lives of those around us.

But I have to deny that the kiss he and Stevonnie shared was a good moment. After all Kevin’s improvement, like... whyyyy would he be with Stevonnie? Like I know that Steven has a lot of money but it seems like he never uses it? And Connie certainly doesn’t flaunt her wealth. I meant, she wears the same trash polo every day? So neither of Stevonnie’s components feel worthy of Kevin, and putting them together is like... what?

Okay, so they can swing a sword? Cool? They can drive? But their car looks like dogshit, and they’re total assholes about the racing thing. They literally don’t care if they win, which clearly implies a lack of drive to succeed in their lives. Personally, I don’t believe that Stevonnie would cut an employee’s hours until they’re forced to quit to avoid severance pay, and if you don’t have the internal strength to be that kind of boss I just really don’t think you deserve someone like Kevin.

Overall, it was fine. I just really feel like they could have dedicated more time to Kevin, and made Stevonnie worthy of him to actually earn that kiss, you know?

Did you know that what we see in almost the whole series is literally an alternate timeline? The original Steven died and what remained was a paradox. How do you feel about that fact?

No, no, no no no.

When Steven came into contact with the Hourglass, THAT was the divergence, and the Steven we follow through the episode is beta!Steven. The Steven that survives who we see at the end is a continuation of the pre-divergent Steven. The loop is stable, and Steven is as Steven does.

Besides, if you were in an alternate timeline...how would you know?

This is incorrect. A stable time loop is one in which there is exactly one timeline, it just has a loop in it. Events in the past are not changed by time travel, and paradoxes do not exist. What we see in the episode is the creation of an alternate timeline. Steven 1 gets the hourglass and uses it to go back in time, which causes all manner of chicanery which eventually results in the destruction of the hourglass, which (for some reason) removes all the Stevens foreign to that timeline from existence, and probably deletes the other timelines as well. While this is basically nonsense, since destroying the hourglass shouldn’t have caused a paradox that a hundred Stevens showing up before it was used wouldn’t also cause, it is definitely NOT a time loop. It’s not even an example of chronological collapse, because that wouldn’t lead to the other Stevens ceasing to exist. It’s not any kind of reasonable logically consistent time travel. The logical fallacy is thinking that the Steven we follow after Steven and the Stevens is different from the one we followed before. Until the moment the extra Stevens appear, they are identical, and neither has primacy or originality. They’re functionally identical.

The three gems, the fallen Crystal Gems, and Steven were all wrapped up and lifted into the air. The sphere phased silently into the hand ship, and Connie watched as the entire ship began to pull away, flying far, far into the night sky.

She watched the ship until it was a dot, just another point of light in a sea of stars.

after fragments i've seen some criticism against the crew for going this far with steven shattering jasper, saying it practically destroys his character. what are your thoughts on that?

This is black and white mentality that ignores the complex nuances of all of these characters, and I wholeheartedly choose to subscribe to thinking that considers the nuance.

Jen, this feels like incredibly reductive thinking. What’s the nuance here? Steven murdered someone in a fit of rage. Regret is meaningful, but this is a pacifistic character, the kindest person on the show, now the only person to kill a named character after three days of being told to give in to anger. There’s no reasonable version of this where Steven isn’t personally destroyed by it, unless the writers have Steven decide that hot-blooded murder is not a big deal as long as you can fix it. If you think there’s so much nuance in these characters that this isn’t something that’s going to personally destroy Steven in the show and forever taint how fans see him, what do you think it is? They’ve established shattering as death or worse multiple times. The creators knew it was so bad that they couldn’t even show it on screen, choosing to cut away from the moment instead. And they had Steven do it, again, after just three days. If you want to like the show regardless of its flaws, that’s fine. Say that. No one can take that away from you. But if you want to say it’s good writing because the characters are so nuanced, then I’d like to hear how you come to that conclusion.
