Nodding a bit to go along with his words he  turned his head a bit with a narrowing of his eyes.

 Connor brought his hand up,  running alonside his doppelganger's  face. He had missed him greatly.

This was so fucking weird. Connor was always the one with a plan. Always the calm, collected one. Murphy was the one with the anger issues - he was the one that was more negative in situations… what the fuck was going on that their composure had shifted so drastically? Hell, his own twin wasn’t willing to look at him, at first. A dead giveaway that there was something huge going on in his mind. But Murphy was persistent. He didn’t want to be left out of whatever was going on - and he certainly didn’t want to leave his brother to face it alone. They were in this together, just as they always had been. and they would deal with it together too.

Connor said nothing - offered no words, nor joke, or defiant little look. Nothing. He was just… there. Just deflated from everything Murphy knew his brother to be. Murphy had never been much of a talker - but there was a connection between the pair of them that never needed words. In that moment, that’s where that connection resonated. With his brow furrowing, the slightest little huff slipping from his lips, Murphy reached to pull Connor into a tight hug. A silent way of Murphy telling him that he was still there - they both were. Things had shifted, certainly and things felt different - especially with their Da suddenly in their lives again. The job suddenly sending them into a quiet little place — but this all had to be in the Lord’s plan for them, This wasn’t Connor’s fault no matter what he felt, and Murphy certainly didn’t blame him.

He hadn't expected the hug, well, it wasn't that he hadn't expected it, not really but he was always the one to touch his twin first. He was the one to graze a shoulder, he was the one to look for a gaze, he was the one who hugged. He was the big brother. But Murphy took him in his arms and at first, he didn't want to move, he couldn't move, too shocked, not really knowing how to receive this love. But then, he felt it, it was Murph, his twin, his favorite person on Earth. And his arms sneaked around his brother's shoulders, his nose burying itself in Murphy's neck. There was no shame to feel, he knew that his thoughts had always run in his twin's mind and he felt even shittier as he realized that he had doubted his twin even for a second.

His arms tightened and he felt a gut wrenching sob escape his mouth. After that, he couldn't hold back his emotions and the tears run freely down his cheeks as he let all his frustrations and sorrows pour out. He had been a shitty brother, a shitty twin and a shittier partner. Connor felt like shit because he had put his brother there, in this situation, away from Boston and his friends. But the tears were freeing him and he was oh so grateful to have someone like that, someone like Murphy that he could trust with his life.

Losing your mind || Eunice & Connor

When she felt his hands at her back, she flinch a little and then relaxed into him. They were exposed, out in the open, and it wasn’t very professional. But what was professional? The world as they’d known it had ended. It wasn’t like she had anyone to impress or hide from. She let the emotion wash over her. She let his touch calm her, even here, where the others might see.

Some time ago, she’d stopped making excuses for herself. Tried to just live best as she could by her skills and wits. But this was new. She hadn’t let anyone in, not for a long time. Letting others in meant pain. There was no contradiction to that in her past. It always ended in pain. Always.

When he held her face in his hands, she merely blinked and looked up at him. He was honest, and she knew what he said was true. If nothing else, they had each other, for as long as the other lived. And she was pretty sure that even once they found Murphy, Connor wouldn’t leave her. Not by choice at least.

Eunice placed a hand over his and smiled, pressing her check into his palm. “You’ve always been sweet to me, Connor. I really should repay that favor one day. I believe Connor, I want to. Hope is all we have besides each other, right?”

She was amazing, she really was the best thing that could have happened to him after he lost Murph. He didn't know how he could have managed without her, didn't know how he could have not caved under the burden of his guilt and his grief. Those were strong emotions, it was too strong for him to bear for so long. But he just realized now that he hadn't been alone. She had carried his grief, she had carried his sorrows with hers, her hands full of her pain, she had allowed him to breath and maybe there wasn't any better present.

A smile pulled on his lips, a real one, a sincere one. It was small, yes but it was the first real one since they had set foot in this nightmare God had created for them. He didn't blame God though, the Creator had rights he would never speak against, it wasn't his place to judge and he knew that and he accepted that. He let his thumb run on her cheekbones before bringing her face closer to his, his lips kissing her forehead.

"Ye did everyt'in' fer me, lass, repaid me enoug' fer a lifetime," he whispered, still harboring a crooked smile, his blue eyes full of light as he spoke, "'n ye findin' 'ope is t'e best t'in' I could ask fer."

"O’ course ‘m no’ mad at ye." Connor closed the distance between them before looking the other over with a few nods and a kiss. "At least ye came back in one piece. I did miss ye."

  Connor closed his eyes, letting the other pepper   kisses on his face, Blue orbs open, a soft smile   pulling on his lips.

Veata liked it when Connor called her Little Princess. Whenever her brother did that there was always a hint of mocking in his tone but with Connor there was never anything but affection. Were it not for the fact that Rithisak held her hand, a reminder of his presence, as they walked she might have allowed herself a moment to preen under the attention. As it was she settled instead for a bashful smile hidden beneath a duck of the head and a subtle tightening of the arm around her stuffed companion. Rithisak liked to tease her about the eldest of the Murphy twins but today she was determined to give her already irritated brother no chance to drag her down.

“For the entire summer,” he confirmed with a nod of the head as he led their ragtag group across the quiet street. “We were supposed to fly out to the States in July for a few weeks but I guess Mum didn’t feel like making the trip this year." Rithisak tugged her hand when her pace began to slow just the slightest as they passed the window of a local bakery. Sometimes there was a store clerk, a pretty woman with blonde hair and brown eyes like a puppy, that would give her a treat for free for no reason other than she thought that Veata was cute. Sometimes even Mister Floopsie got one if she was being exceptionally cute that day. Perhaps her brother could be convinced to let her peek in on their way home. She doubted it though given the feigned exasperation of his tone as he questioned, "What the heck is a banp — bamfr — that?” 

It wasn’t until that they reached the duneline that he let go of her hand. Without preemptive she dropped to the ground, feet splayed out for easier access, and Rithisak knelt to slip off her flats. Sometimes he was a nice older brother but only sometimes. “Go on,” he urged as he kicked off his own shoes and picked her back up by her arms. “Go find your seashells." Veata tilted her head back then and simply stated, "I don’t have a bucket." The reaction was immediate as he released her and she nearly collapsed onto the sand like a ragdoll. Arms stuck out she caught her balance and turned on her heels only to be caught in the face of his irritation. "What do you mean you don’t have your bucket?” She wasn’t given a chance to respond before he was focusing on the twins instead. “Can you stay here and watch her while I run back to the house?”

Sometimes he was a good big brother even when he wasn’t.

He couldn't help but smirk as the little girl ducked her head, hiding her little smile. She was really a breath of fresh air for him who had never really been around that much little girl. It was a new experience, kind of and he just wanted to enjoy that. So of course, he treated her like she truly was a princess and her reaction always made him feel a bit better about near everything. She was just so sweet and funny. It warmed his heart, his father's absence still having some kind of effect on him.

Connor had dug his hands in his pockets as he followed after his friend. Murphy was being his usual distracted puppy, looking everywhere and nowhere at the same time. So he pushed his shoulder lightly, making his twin stumble. Connor chuckled before diverting his attention back on his friend, snorting at the question, "banphrionsa is the lass' title, lad," he smiled, winking at her. The twins were taking their shoes, pushing each other, trying to make one of them fall when the little princess said she didn't have her bucket. Before he could answer, Murphy had already said he would go with Rithisak since he needed to buy smoke. "Guess t's just ye 'nd me," he smiled at the little, "now, w'at d'ye want t'do ?"

Murphy had been glad to find that at least in his outburst, Connor had still stopped when his name had been called out. This situation wasn’t ideal - it felt like their job was left unfinished - but that didn’t mean that they were done. Whatever was going through his twin’s mind, Murphy wanted be on the same page, to know and ease the troubles that plagued his brother. Whatever was going on, Murphy wanted them to work at it together - it had always been that way… and now, with Connor storming off the way that he had, there was a surge in the connection they shared that seemed too muddled.

Catching him up, Murphy’s brows were furrowed as he made to face his brother - knowing that Connor wouldn’t have turned around. But heart to hearts were never something that Murphy was overly skilled in, their mother not being the most gentle woman in the world - but he still cared. Just his ways reflected their lack of experience with it. A hand reached for his twin’s shoulder, head dipping the slightest bit to try to catch his eyes, Murphy studied the elder twin for a moment, finally coming to the affirmation. Connor was trying to blame himself for this life.

"Wha’ t’e fuck?" Murphy asked, with a surprising amount of compassion, despite the harsh statement. This wasn’t on Connor. They had been in this together. This was all in the will of their calling. He couldn’t do this to himself. Not when there was no blame to be taken.

He didn't want to meet Murphy's eyes, didn't want to look at him because he knew his brother and he knew that he would see everything. Every thought, every failure and his twin would see it all. Connor couldn't let that happen, couldn't let Murphy know how useless he was, how unprotected his twin was because of Connor's mistakes. But then, he was surrounded by his brother's touches, his hand on his shoulder, his head low, trying to catch his eyes. He was fighting it though, he didn't want to let him see.

But Murph was one stubborn asshole and Connor was unable to refuse him anything and their eyes met, blue eyes on blue eyes. He tightened his jaw, the muscle of his neck tensing as his brother was reading all his thoughts. Starting to nervously bit in his lower lip, Connor was focused on letting his twin in. Now that he had started, he had to know everything, Murph couldn't stop at the beginning. Murphy's voice was now breaking the silence, breaking everything, shattering his wall and his body went limp, all that tension escaping his body.

Still, he stood there, his eyes not leaving Murphy as he shrugged. For once, he was defenceless, for once, he had nothing to say, he had nothing to defend himself, no joke to make. He was nothing and he had nothing. Except the failures and the shitty life he had to offer to Murphy. Who deserved so much better.

Losing your mind || Eunice & Connor

Eunice bristled at his words. She stopped short, letting her arm slip from his and fall to her side. “I gave up my right to them long ago, Connor. Likely they aren’t even alive. Nothing is left living in this world but us it seems.”

She turned in the direction of the quarry and looked out over the water, her eyes stopping at the sharp walls that contained it. “You and Murphy are the only family I have left now, and that is just fine with me. I haven’t failed either of you.” Yet, she thought. She wondered if she was in the midst of it with Connor. If she couldn’t bring Murphy home to him, Connor would likely be lost to her forever.

Eunice felt a sudden rush of emotion. Here she was, failing more people in her life. Apparently she didn’t learn from her mistakes. She turned back to Connor, and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling him close to her. “Don’t leave me Connor, and don’t let me go, neither. You’re all I have now.”

He was a bit surprised as her arms closed around his shoulders, hugging him. Usually, theu kept those kind of behaviors in the tent but apparently, talking about her family had made her emotional. So he naturally let himself hug her, "Don't ye worry, lass," he whispered, kissing her temple, "'m not goin' now'ere," he promised, his hands moving up and down on her back.

He was sorry. Sorry he had talked about her family, sorry he had made her sad, sorry he had been such a whining bitch. he was sorry he had failed his brother, sorry he was separated from his brother. He was just so sorry and there was nothing he could do about it. He hugged her tighter as tears started to stream down his face. He wanted Murphy, that was all, he just wanted Murphy right here in his arms, he wanted them to hug. He wanted his brother back and he was sorry that he hadn't done anything to get him back. He was so sorry he had given up. But he was mostly sorry that it was too late now.

Though, it wasn't too late for Eunice. He could something for her, he took a step back, wiping the tears from his face with his sleeve before cradling her face in his hands, "'m not ever gonna let ye down, ye 'ear ?" he said, his blue eyes in hers, "yer all I 'ave too."

"No, I was only kiddin’." Connie laughs lightly before unwinding herself from around him. There was a small smile that lingered, knowing how much he really did care for here. Fingers moved to lace with his and give  slight tug. "Alrigh’, le’s go. Lover boy."

"I would 'ave done it, lass," he said before kissing her forehead. He let her lace their fingers, squeezing her hand, a smile tugging on his lips at the nickname she gave him. She was adorable and the best thing that had ever happened to him. "Let's go, love."

Taylor doesn’t say much else. Although she wouldn’t say anything, she held some belief that the man’s brother would pull through. After writing down the necessary notes, she hangs the clipboard from the edge of the bed. She checks the fluids, making sure there was enough to last for a few more hours. Nodding her head, she moves to the door. “After my night, I could definitely go for a cup of coffee and a smoke.” The blonde tells him as she pulls the door open, moving through it before holding it open. “By the way, the name’s Taylor,” she offers a hand. “Ya’ don’t have to call me doctor.”

He nodded, checking his pocket before taking a cigarette out and placing it behind his ear. He offered the open box to the woman so as to let her take one. She was trying to save his brother's life, the most precious thing Connor had ever witnessed, he could at least offer her a smoke. He shook her hand quickly with a bit of a smile though it was hollow and sad, "Name's Connor," he muttered before walking toward the coffee machine.

His name was Connor McManus and all he wanted was to have his brother back.

Murphy had been confident that they would receive a sign, an answer, just as they had before, about what path they needed to take. This was all new to them still, in all honesty… and their Da had been right. It would all depend upon their depth of faith to take things as they needed to be. Whatever the Lord’s plans were for them, they would listen. In that affirmation, the younger twin continued to dig, his thoughts tracing over each possibility of how their lives could go from there on out. While it was true, Murphy had never really pictured them on a small farm, tending a flock of sheep, there was a simplicity to it that he had missed in the craze of all they had been through. Perhaps a simplicity that they were not meant to be granted, but one nonetheless.

Of course, there was some kind of hardwiring within him that made him want to obey whatever their Da’s wishes were too. Some kind of strange little plea from the inner little boy within him, wanting so badly to have the father’s approval that had abandoned them so long ago. Honor thy father.

Ultimately, it was Connor’s outburst that had Murphy’s thoughts coming to a halt. Watching as he threw down the shovel, and rendered completely speechless by the time that he had stormed off. Usually it was him that had the outbursts, Connor always was the cool and collected one. But there was something deep that was bothering his twin, and Murphy didn’t hesitate at all to throw his own shovel down to follow him. “Connor!” he called out, hating the rift in the air that was surrounding this whole situation.

He was losing it. He was clearly becoming someone he didn't want to be. He had never run away from his brother, form his twin but he was doing it now. E verything was so different, so changed and he was losing himself. He couldn't face the disappointment in his twin's eyes, couldn't face Murphy's scared face as he understood that Connor wasn't something you could trust anymore, someone who knew better. He didn't know nothing, he was just one stupid ass who had made mistakes. And so much of them. He had led his brother to America so as to give them a better life. Stupid Connor, always thinking he knew better. His brother had lost years of his life because of him. Years that Connor could never give him back.

He wanted the best for Murphy but he wasn't capable of giving him and it was killing him. What was he good for if he couldn't get his twin everything he wanted ? It was all dreams and chimeras that he had been running after. But it wasn't the worst, no, the worst was that he had taken Murphy on that crazy run of him. And Connor would give his life to give those years back to his twin. He felt like a joke, a ghost of his former self.

He heard his brother call his name and like a puppet whose master would have pulled the strings, Connor stopped in his tracks. He kept his back to his brother though, not quite ready to face that much disappointment. He wasn't stupid, not at all and he knew that he had been one huge disappointment for his twin. And if only it had been just for his twin. But he felt like everybody had been disappointed.
