Metal corsets by Ellen Durkan
hello to my studyblr. hereās a note to myself of my accomplishments since i was last active on this account.
you did it. you got your bachelors with honors. you majored in philosophy and double minored in art history and legal studies. a nice addition to the three associates you got before entering university.
you didnāt go to law school but thatās okay, you always knew deep down you didnāt want to anyways.
you didnāt get your first big girl job right out of college and thatās okay too. trader joeās for 7-8 months post grad was good- the hazard pay helped, and you worked there while studying too. thank you to tjās for no cameras so i could take food when i really needed it.
now, now you can afford food. now you can afford to get food without looking at the prices if you didnāt want to, sure more to pay back on the credit card and it could hurt your saving goals. but you can do it if you wanted and still have money to your name. no more living off of $100 a month.
you did it. you did it. youāre living in one of the most expensive cities in the world and you did it. and youāre only 21. the last time you used this blog you were 19. oh how so much has changed. many people will undermine your success, including your parents, saying you arenāt making enough. but really, making 100k plus a year doesnāt define my happiness, not yet at least. im stable, i donāt own a home but fuck nobody can afford a home right now and even if prices were down you could never where you lived or in most places in your state. you should still be proud every day of your accomplishments.
and lastly, you found love. good love, a love thatās celebrating three years in july.
good job and keep strong
[Image: Tweet by Emily Mullin (@EmilyLMullin) and tweet by Isobelle Winter (@IsobelleWinter), both about the dangers of Facebookās new preventative health screening tool. Images have been modified for visual ease but information has not been changed.]
Something to know about Facebookās new āscreening tool,ā and advice/info that can most certainly be used outside of this specific situation.
For spoonies, the biggest deal is how this data, if leaked, could affect you in professional and insurance spheres.
Hereās Emilyās full thread, which discusses the details of the tool, and hereās Isobelleās full thread, which extrapolates on specific dangers.
In the end? Itās another data grab. Data is worth money; donāt give yours away, especially not to Facebook.
PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST this shit is scary.
did everyone just forget the whole Facebook/Cambridge Analytica using personality quizzes to gather data on people and then use it to influence elections thing or what

how to learn new content and never forget it
save this for your next academic year and finals, and itāll save your grades and time.
1. whenever you read a paragraph with new content, close the book/look away and ask yourself: āwhat have i just learned?ā explaining the concept to yourself right away and asking follow-up questions will change the way you retain new material forever.
2. at first, itāll be daunting, and itāll be pretty hard to actually bring yourself to do this. trust me, itāll be worth it - as this is scientifically proven one of the most effective study techniques.
3. to try this out, set yourself a timer for how long you estimate learning a concept might take. now take away 20% from that estimate. you wonāt be able to reach this goal with basic highlighting and re-reading techniques - but with active recall, you will.
4. once youāve understood the concept, use spaced repetition systems like anki flashcards to force yourself to retrieve this information in a set period of time. this way, your brain will always be reminded of this concept before it could possibly forget it.
5. teach it to others as much as you can. as with the old wisdom āsee one, do one, teach oneā, one of the only guarantees youāve really gotten something is when you can effectively teach it.
hope these are helpful for you!!
