something i see all the time is “i cant help it i have hybristophilia!!!!” as a defense for like pulling fangirl shit and it’s funny to me bc
i know there are people in the tcc diagnosed with hybristophilia and i dont doubt there are some in the fangirl side who actually are undiagnosed hybristophiles, but when ppl use it as an excuse it seems more like an attention thing rather than an actual paraphilic disorder, which is a mental health issue and not some victim blaming shit where you say tj lane’s victims weren’t exactly angels
the worst part is mental illness is never an excuse for behavior anyway, like ever. ive seen some ppl with hybristophilia say it’s hard for them to see ppl using it as a defense bc they actually struggle with it and it’s trivializing the disorder they actually have.
and this bothers me bc antis conflate finding a murderer purely physically attractive with hybristophilia, which is absolutely not what it means, and theyll make broad statements about how we’re all hybristophiles as an insult which does nothing to actually help ppl who have it and isn’t true. and i think part of it is their ignorance but i rly think part of it is how many ppl use it purely as an excuse.
im rly curious what ppl think about this tho, esp ppl dx’d w/hybristophilia!
