For a few years now Anthony Wong’s appearances at the Hong Kong Film Awards have included satirical speeches about HK politics. This year (a few hours ago, actually) he reportedly referenced the universal suffrage movement in HK (here’s a video of his intro for Best Director. Anne Hui won for The Golden Era).
He also blessed us with some A+ reaction faces.

I still feel as though this film didn’t get enough love. I know the Donnie Yen Ip Man films are the definitive Ip Man films, but both the unofficial prequel and unofficial sequel are great additions to the pantheon of Wing Chun films. Not only did Anthony Wong look like Ip Man, but it’s obvious he’d put in the training in order to look as good as possible.

There is very little in swift-moving Gangster Pay Day that is either surprising or innovative. Lee and co-writer Lily He work within the bounds that define the genre and don’t get fancy with visuals. But there’s something comfortingly familiar about it that wins you over despite its predictability and fundamental silliness. What is innovative is the subtle comments on the film industry and the state of Hong Kong in general.

These genres all play out in a narrative that, while inevitably uneven at times when swaying from humor to violence, somehow works out in the end.

Another trailer for Gangster Payday (大茶飯) which was directed by Lee Biu-Cheung and stars Anthony Wong Chau-sang, Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin, Wong Yau-nam and several veterans of Hong Kong cinema.
Director Cheung mostly worked as an assistant director, e.g. for Herman Yau's The Untold Story and Turning Point. He previously directed two features called You Light Up My Life (1998) and Single Blog (2007).
Gangster Payday is the closing film of Busan International Film Festival on Oct. 11.
