City In Ruins
the last of us
We at JAM Editions are very proud to announce that our very own Lori Nix will have her second solo exhibition at ClampArt in New York City. More Photographs from “The City” runs from October 17 through November 16. The show will feature the third installment of her photo series, The City.
The series explores the idea of a world, post-mankind, where Mother Nature has begun to reclaim a wide variety of cultural spaces. The City series began in 2005 and the subjects have run the gamut from ornate art museums, to an abandoned church, to the local laundromat. The newest group of photos continues in this vein with a mix of both intimate and grandiose spaces.
All of Lori’s photographs begin life as a meticulously crafted diorama built in her studio/living room in Brooklyn. Constructed out of pink foam panels, wood, plaster, paint, and polymer clay they take many months to create before she captures them on film with her 8x10 camera. Highly detailed, but with a wry sense of humor, they truly engage the viewer making them laugh while also making them think.
The opening reception is Thursday October 17, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The show coincides with the publication of her first book, The City. Hope you are able to see the show while it is up. If you are free the night of the 17th, please stop by the gallery.
ClampArt is at 521-531 W. 25th Street, Ground Floor. Check out clampart.com for more details.
