Pros:

Cleaner, easier to navigate interface

Free servers for more permanent group chat things (way easier to hop in and out of chats)

You can actually have different nicknames on each server if you want

Is actually well built and doesn’t make your computer yearn for death

But you can change that

Download it. It’s great and it’s only getting better. It’s aimed at gamers but it has nearly all the functionality of Skype and then some.

Since Discord first became a thing, it has added:

changeable statuses

search function

and a hell of a lot more!  Also this is a huge shout out to any of my friends who still use Skype – I don’t use it, I use Discord.  Mail me and I’ll shoot you my details :)

Yes, when the original post is deleted from the server (not just the blog, but the Tumblr servers), there is no root post for notes to be added onto, and also no root post for time to be counted from, so it starts from zero. Most computer operating systems use Unix, which was launched in 1971 with the epoch date of midnight on January 1, 1970 as 1. Therefore zero is one second behind that date: December 31, 1969. Also, very unfortunately, this also means nobody except you and anyone you reblog it to will see this explanation, as you cannot open the notes to see comments when there are no notes.

I was thinking about this recently and realized that a lot of people on here who speak like this have the exact same approach as the "free speech" freaks from 4chan. The type of person who will say bigoted things just because you can't physically stop them, just as a way of championing anti-censorship views, and if you try to tell them that's not cool and not how free speech works they just double down on whatever they're saying and act like they have the moral high ground and you're just an evil censorer.

There are people here on tumblr who are so adamant about being sex-positive that they will go onto other people's posts, uninvited, to talk about their (potentially triggering) kinks and if you try to tell them that it's inappropriate to do so they will respond in the same trolling manner like they're happy that they made you mad so they can call you a puritan and use you as an example for why sex positivity is so important, meanwhile their actual comment that made people upset was "Rape is awesome!" (Real example I have seen)

It's literally the same kind of people that will send you gore and tell you you're too sensitive if you take issue with anything they say, all under the guise of having a higher cause.

i need to gush about how incredibly seamless her compositing is in these. Compositing is incredibly hard and time consuming work on a crisp clean digital image. But compositing into what seems to be a scanned photograph that was shot on film? Insane work. The film grain + photo paper texture is matched perfectly as well as the varying softness from being slightly out of focus in different amounts in each image. Each film stock has its own specific tone too some are warmer, others are more purply, or green and they all handle contrast with light and shadow completely differently. There was so much to take into account doing this and i really dont know how she did it other than maybe finding those locations again and shooting with the same film stock on a day with similar lighting. I cannot stress enough that for professional photographers doing complex compositing is mostly relegated to having a fully locked down camera set up in studio under controlled repeatable lighting. Super impressive and a really fantastic photo series truly.
