Diego Rivera

Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter born in Guanajuato, Guanajuato. His large wall works in fresco helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican art. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals among others in Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City.

"Gabriel Figueroa comentó alguna vez que con motivo del cincuenta aniversario de labor artística de Diego Rivera, había tenido la idea de hacer un cortometraje. Para ello convenció al maestro pintor e invitó a Manuel Álvarez Bravo - quien por entonces había hecho la foto fija de varias producciones cinematográficas - a participar como camarógrafo del documental. Este no llegó a terminarse. Ciencuenta años después, Gabriel Figueroa Flores, hijo del reconocido camarógrafo y Diego López, productor, director y guionista de cone, retomaron este único y desconocido material para ahondar en los vínculos que unieron a estos tres grandes artistas desde su propia mirada."

The Anahuacalli was very special for Diego, who planned it to be the place to keep and show his dear collection of pre-Hispanic pieces.

Most tourists don’t know about it, but it’s really a place you should visit if you are in town (along with the Dolores Olmedo Museum because: Surprise! it has the biggest collection of Rivera’s and Kahlo’s works).

Not only it’s a beautiful place, you get to see Diego’s collection and enjoy the fantastic building, they also host great events throughout the year.

Los murales de Palacio Nacional fueron pintados por Diego Rivera, entre 1929 y 1951, las obras narran con una extraordinaria síntesis e iconografía periodos significativos de la historia de México.

Aunque a un inicio estas obras tenían un fin educativo, hoy en día son un gran legado para la plástica mexicana.
