Just saw “Masters of the Universe” and oh my god. Travis Knight was the perfect choice to direct this film. It wasn’t too serious, but at the same time I was very invested emotionally. The fact that they didn’t shy away from the silliness but the characters were still so fleshed out, especially Duncan, Man at Arms (played by Sir Idris Elba). I absolutely adored his character arc. Camila Mendes (who I enjoyed watching on Riverdale) was fantastic in the role of Duncan’s daughter Teela. Their relationship and dialogue felt so genuine.

As for Jared Leto as Skeletor??? I actually found myself forgetting that was him under that hood.

Nicholas Galitzine in this role reminded me sooo much of the Disney animated version of Hercules (a character I’ve had a crush on since I was two years old). To see him retain his goofy and awkward personality as Adam and as He-Man, was an excellent choice. All around just charming as fuck. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a hero with a heart of gold.

On a sliiiiightly more thirsty note: this man got so jacked for this role, but in a way that still looked natural. My gawd. I thought he was beautiful before but DAYUM. My glasses actually fogged up. And I absolutely loved that Sailor Moon style transformation.

I may or may not go see it again next week.

And in the meantime I will be seeking out some “x reader” fanfiction both on Tumblr and AO3. 😜

I just got back from seeing Masters of The Universe and it's so fucking good. It's every clearly made by people who loved the original show.

Spoilers:

They good stuff

Duncan having tears in his eyes for Adam because Randor didn't turn around was perfect.

Young Teela turning around to help her father was such a Teela thing to do

Randor being hard on Adam because he's worried for him was right out of the show

Adam working in HR because he's a caring and empathetic person was genius.

I love that they didn't really do the played out hero forgets where he came from so he's so weirded out by how crazy the magic world is.

Evil Lyn was perfect, how she spoke, how she shamelessly flattered Skeletor, telling Teela they could get out of there and let the others fight it out. That's so Evil Lyn. The amount of times she just betrays Skeletor for her own interests and the history between her and Teela.

Beastman being a little bitch when it comes to Skeletor was so on brand.

Skeletor was so good. Him trying to be a dramatic villain and his henchmen not getting it, using alliterative insults, plain calling himself a villain with no good in him was all right out of the show.

Roboto was funny and really likable

My criticisms are:

Having the characters names be the nicknames Adam had for them as a kid. We are in a world of magic and cackling villains, we can let Ram Man be just be named Ram Man and Fisto just be named Fisto.

Adding a random woman with her whole backstory being she also trained with Adam and Teela as a kid. It just felt like they wanted to add another womanl because they knew the cast had too many men. But all they did was give us a redundant knock off Teela. There are unique female characters they could have brought in that would have been awesome to see like Celice who's got siren song abilities from one of the best episodes of the show. God that would have been dope like imagine her showing up to eerie ass music and the villains nearby drop into a stupor. Or they could have added Delora from Avion and had someone who could fuckin fly. Or you could have let Marlena fight in her ship because she's literally the best pilot and both the original and the 2002 shows had her flying her ship.

EDIT: I'm told she's from the newspaper comics! I'll have to reread them. Though I do think it's a bit of an odd choice to have her in the mix instead of someone more distinct

Decided to sculpt my own Scare-Glow out of polymer clay.

It was my first run at making something like this so there are definitely some things I would do differently but he didn't turn out terrible. I might look into options for clear plastic to give him some muscle but for now he looks ok.
