Smoke 'em if you got 'em in Illinois or Michigan or Minnesota or Canada.
0/10, do not recommend smoking at Bong Recreational Area. Wisconsin Park rangers have zero chill.
Near where I live. Always appreciate it.
Madison 1975
It's always weird to see State Street with cars on it.
Just off of Park Street.
Hey Americans, if you have a state Supreme Court vote coming up, vote in it. A Supreme Court can make or break a state, especially in this current political climate, and we actually have control over who gets into our state courts.
Wisconsites, we have a Supreme Court vote coming up in April and if you don't vote in it, I'm going to cut a hole into all your window screens, right on the very edge so it's in a place where you can't just patch it but it's too big to just ignore. Enjoy your box elder bugs and grass spiders 🔫
Get the vote out, Wisconsin! Don't let Elon musk buy our state supreme court.
Blue hour in downtown Madison.
I can't wait to go home!
do you guys ever like forget you're interested in something until you start engaging with it again and you go "oh wait i'm like crazy crazy about this yeah"
Me and Phish.
I was waaaay into Phish starting in the mid 90s, saw my first show in 95, did my first (partial) tour in 97, and first full tour in 99 after getting ditched by my ride in summer of 98. I had been planning to take my massage table on summer tour in 03, but instead I had twins.
And then Phish broke up.
I was elated when they got back together in 09, and whenever they were in the area, I caught their shows. Then in 21, a perfect storm happened. I went to Deer Creek for the first time in 21 years, I had just finished grad school (which was horrible, 0/10, do not recommend), and on the last night of the weekend I met an awesome couple who told me I HAD to go to Dick's for the summer tour closer.
I went to Dick's, dragged my best friends and husband along, and by the end of THAT weekend, I had decided to quit my job and go on summer tour (which was infinitely better than going to grad school). Three years later, I'm crazier about Phish than I ever was in my 20s, and I love it.
lovely story from a friend today.
Look, this post has been wildly more popular than I thought it deserved, apparently at least in part because "don't burden others; be independent" is far more ingrained in people than I realized. So here's the thing: society works when people help each other. Helping others gives people a chance to know each other, and gives them an investment in the people they help. Helping creates bonds. People enjoy helping, and you are doing a good by letting them help you if they so wish.
Offer help; accept help. You will be a part of creating a helping culture. Which, incidentally, weakens capitalism and the fractionation between people that benefits those who would use us.
When my twin daughters were maybe a week old, I went to the grocery store with them. I dragged two carts, one full of babies and the other full of groceries, around the store and through the check out. At check out, the cashier asked if I wanted drive up for my groceries, and I hesitated. "I think I'm fine."
The woman behind me said, "take the help." In a total mom voice.
So I took the help. I still think about her when I'm struggling to do everything on my own. Yes, Gen, it's OKAY to accept assistance.
