A Master Study featuring Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. In which Link hangs out with the two Zeldas post-game (Who do you think became the Queen of Hyrule?)
This was a difficult piece, but I’m happy with it!

12 Days of Christmas: Day 5 - Teaching someone to skate
Summary: With patience and understanding, Dick attempts to teach Damian how to ice skate.
Enjoy! :D
“This is the most ludicrous thing you have asked me to do Grayson. I refuse.”
“Oh c’mon, Dami. It’s fun! I’ve been looking forward to sharing this with you.”
“If you are sharing it with me, why are the rest of the mongrels with us?”
Dick chooses to ignore the insult for their siblings. Instead, he steps onto the frozen lake and holds out his hands for Damian to grab onto. “Because they wanted to come too. Now grab onto my arms, I’ll guide you.”
It’s the middle of winter and for once they have a rare day where it’s dry with a clear blue sky. Not saying that it’s not cold because it most definitely is. Dick started out the day suggesting to Damian they go ice skating, that’s when Cass suggested a nearby lake of about two hours away which has frozen over and is safe to skate on. From there everyone ended up wanting to come so they’ve made a day trip out of it.
Dick’s managed to convince Damian to put the ice skates on but now he’s struggling to get the kid to step onto the ice. Damian stands on solid land, arms crossed, pouting as he glares at Dick.
“They have come to mock me. I will not allow them to do so.” He protests.
Dick takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. “No they haven’t Dami. Cass would never mock you. Jay, yeah he probably would to be honest. Steph and Duke will do nothing but praise you for trying something new. Timmy can’t say nothing because he can barely skate himself.”
As if he manifested it, a thump followed by cursing sounds out, and when Dick looks over his shoulder sure enough Tim is on his ass with a laughing Stephanie by his side.
“See? Now come on.”
A look of uncertainty crosses the kid’s face. “I do not want to fail.”
“You can’t fail Dami.” Dick reassures him patiently. “It’s like any time you learn a new skill yeah? You aren’t always going to get it first time. It takes practice and time to get good at it and to know what you’re doing. You will fall, I won’t lie to you, but I’ll be here to pick you back up and guide you again. I think you’ll pick this up in no time at all.”
When Damian still doesn’t move, either because he’s afraid and being stubborn about it or because he simply does not want to do it, Dick starts questioning this whole idea. He straightens up and gestures randomly behind him.
“Would you like someone else to help you? Steph or Cass perhaps?”
Maybe giving Damian another option will help him relax a little. He would be hurt if Damian did choose someone else over him but he’d understand.
After a moment, Damian shakes his head and actually steps towards the ice. “No Grayson. I do not want anyone else dealing with my inexperience of this.”
Dick braces himself again and holds his arms up for Damian to take. “C’mon Damian. Let’s do this.”
Dick’s unable to contain the smile on his face as Damian finally steps onto the ice. He’s so proud of him. He knows a few of the others are watching them, he can feel their stares, and he hopes to hell they all have enough common sense to not say anything right now.
Damian falls over. Repeatedly. And as Dick promised he’s there every time helping Damian back up and giving him pointers on where he went wrong and what can help him not to fall over next time.
At one point it had disheartened Damian badly to the point the kid walked off almost with tears in his eyes.
“This is stupid. Why would anyone need this in their lives?”
Dick crouched down in front of him. “It’s not stupid, you’re just new to this and struggling a little. It’s a complex skill to know and to learn if you haven’t been brought up with it. Lots of people enjoy ice skating and it leads to a lot of professional sports too.”
“I no longer wish to take part anymore.” The kids pouts.
Dick smiles softly. He knew this may happen after several failed attempts of ice skating, a lot of people go through similar emotions.
“How about we try half an hour more. You’re nearly there Dami, just a little longer and you’ll have the basics sorted.”
The trick is to try and compromise, hopefully Damian goes along with it because Dick thinks once he’s got the hang of it, he’ll really enjoy it.
There’s a long pause but eventually Damian nods and Dick beams at him.
After one more hour Damian finally got the hang of ice skating and even seemed to be enjoying himself. He would skate on his own, keep his balance and then be able to stop himself. Once Damian was comfortable Dick started to show him things like how to turn and even how to go backwards.
It was a great day and they ended up calling it a day when the sun started to set. Packing away their gear and everything they had brought with them, such things as coolers, food, speakers, they climb into the two cars they had brought and begin the journey home.
In the car Dick was driving, Steph and Cass seemed to be passed out in the back seats, while Damian stared out of the window from his place in shotgun. It was around halfway through the drive when Damian turned to him.
“Grayson?” His voice was quiet and Dick gives him all the attention he could while driving.
“Yeah Dami?”
“Thank you for today. I had – it was an adequate day out.”
Dick smirks to himself. God the kid could be infuriatingly adorable sometimes. Even after years being with Bruce he still couldn’t let himself act like a child his age would.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it. If you would ever like to go skating again, just me know. We’ll find a rink somewhere or even another frozen lake.”
“It would be sensible to maintain practice on the skills I have yet to master.”
In other word, he does want to go ice skating again but won’t admit it out loud. Dick continues to smile. “Sure Dami, I’ll make sure it happens.”
Maybe next time he can rope Bruce into tagging along too. They’ll make another day out of it, have it as family bonding. Making a mental note to do just that, Dick falls silent and concentrates on the road.
(edit: chat idk why it’s blurry pls im sorry gang IM SORRY)
i’ve been tweaking this piece for two days and STILL feel like there’s something so off with it……. god speed bc i’m never gonna scratch the itch in my brain until this looks perfect
More Spoilers below where I rant (lovingly) about them
I heard people say that Zelda sounds more like a tourist guide in these but like... I disagree?? Like maybe this is cherry picking from the 150-ish (iirc) memos available, but these actually have much more charm and personality than I thought. And you don't even have to squint much to find Zelink (ambiguous but still there)
Like Eventide Island. Link knew there was a chance she was gonna get stripped the moment she set foot in the place, but he made no move to stop her. He was polite enough to cover his eyes, but bro knew exactly what he was doing, and maybe hoping to (not) see
Or how he's still protective of her post-Calamity?Fucking trying to cool down literal hot springs because she thought they were too hot. What a silly creature
And then hints at their closeness pre-Calamity!! Like how she used to seek his presence to calm herself down during anxiety inducing dinner functions full of stuffy judgemental nobles, or their not-dates at Sadinin Park where he'd teach her horse handling...
Like, I expected these memos to not shake the status quo much, but these are more than just Crumbs. There's also genuinely cool lore bits, like how Lover's Pond didn't have that reputation Pre-Calamity, or hints at how the Horned Statue might have ended up at Lookout Landing (from a different memo)
I always liked the anime illustrations in the original NES Zelda manual, and it saddened me to find out these weren’t actually part of a real animated promotion for the game. So I decided to take those illustrations and re-create them as if they were!
Enjoy this long-lost VHS promotion for the Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System!
Since Link was already an established hero during Zelda2, I like to think that the lost Darunia town kid would have recognized him and instantly started asking him all sorts of questions.
