Spiders Union Statement on Studio Shutdown

From Kotaku:

A union representing Spiders employees has blamed Nacon for running the studio into the ground and has called on players not to give it any more of their money. “We refuse to see the group responsible for Spiders’ abrupt end pillaging the still-warm body of our jobs. Although we hope that our games will still be enjoyed, we would like players to avoid giving their money to Nacon, as it would reward the group for its actions,” SJTV wrote in a statement.

There are more details in the last link, that explain how Spiders was prevented from being financially successful and continued survival.

Spiders has existed since 2008 - a long time for a medium-sized European development company. Almost none of the games were huge financial successes, but it did not stop Spiders from doing best with their budget, combining frugality with tremendous creativity and talent.

It is extremely frustrating, that after finding relative financial success with Greedfall, the studio is forced to shutdown immediately after release of Gredfall 2. Considering how well the studio has weathered much leaner and hungrier times, this is an unacceptable waste of a well-established team.

Knowing the gaming industry, it does not surprise me, but it's a goddamn crime nevertheless.

I wish the Spiders devs success in their future and that they see some form of justice.

For now, we can only send our love and remember their games. Just don't give the publisher Nacon any more money - sail the high seas in memory of Spiders.
