Toward the Terra (1977-1980) by Keiko Takemiya
Takemiya Keiko artbooks TOKI NO SHŌNEN (Boys of Time) B40 | hard cover | 48 pages | Hakusensha 1977
Takemiya Keiko artbooks GINGA SHŌNEN (Galaxy Boys) A4 | soft cover | 64 pages | Shinshokan 1987
The BBC's Yuko Kato meets one of Japan's leading female manga artists, Keiko Takemiya, seen as the woman who opened the floodgates to sexually explicit manga.
Really interesting article about arguments in favor of keeping explicit manga uncensored despite criticism of the UN.

hey! i hope this isn't an annoying question, but i was looking around for keiko takemiya artbooks to buy and i'm REALLY interested in the cherish gallery collection you posted. is only one of them by keiko takemiya? (there are two artbooks under the keiko takemiya jisen fukusei gengashuu title on amazonjp and i'm not sure what to make of it.)
Hello! Not annoying at all. :D “Cherish Gallery” was a looong series of art collections Hakusensha put out, and three of them feature art by Takemiya. It’s super confusing, though, because the numbering is weird.
(I’ll reply to this publicly in case other people are also confused…)
- The first one, published in 1978, is a 豪華版/goukaban/deluxe edition, and has 32 pieces (16 color and 16 b/w) + a poster in a box. This is the one I own and posted pictures of. This one is NOT numbered.
- The second one, published in 1981, is a 軽装版/keisouban/light edition, and has 12 pieces (8 color, 4 b/w) in a box. This one isn’t numbered either, but has a subtitle: “音楽は心の言葉、絵は…“ The box cover art is from “Sensoukyoku”, featuring a boy by a piano and a boy holding a violin.
- The third one, published in 1983, is also a 軽装版/keisouban/light edition, and has 12 pieces (8 color, 4 b/w) in a box. This one IS numbered, and called “2″. Its subtitle is “少年のいる情景“, and the cover is of a girl with orange hair.
The amazon sellers also seem super confused. :/ When I bought it, there was a listing for the “deluxe edition” clearly marked with images and everything. There’s one seller here who’s actually selling the deluxe edition for 4.500 yen, but has it listed under the wrong title. I think your best bet is to read the descriptions by the sellers (check the publication date + number of pieces included) rather than following the titles. Super confusing. Hope you figure it out! It’s gorgeous.
Hey there, I'm not entirely sure if this blog is active, but do you know if there are any translations of Watashi wo Tsuki made Tsuretette! on the web? Since I was planning to translate it myself, but I don't want to do that if there is already one around! Thank you!
I have never seen any! I’d love to see this one translated!
Hi there :) I saw your post in the tag about text translations for Kaze to Ki ni Uta, but the link is no longer working. Do you by chance know where I can find a working link or a backup? I recently got into the series and would love to know! Pls msg me back if you can, thanks so much!!
Hi! Just so you know you also sent this to my personal tumblr and one of my DW accounts so I'm just answering it here since this is the most likely place someone else might be interested.
I don't know of anywhere else you can read them online but I had them saved onto my computer just in case something like this happened so I just threw the .txt files on mediafire. Let me know if that doesn't work for you!
