I’ve just realized some of you may not have heard of the Clangers, to which I say…I’m sorry, but your childhood simply is not complete. You have my sympathies. Either way, welcome back to Full Bodied Literature! Our schedule is becoming more erratic then a spider’s web after too much caffeine. Episode 15: Zombie Birds

Episode 14: Post-Mortem

Yes, you read correctly; Full Bodied Literature is no more. It is deceased, departed, bereft of life and bought several farms. We did not survive the gauntlet that was assessment month, and now our specter floats aimlessly around, haunting decrepit castles and lecturing tourists on the finer points of Mary Shelley. It's a living It's not really a living.

Anyhoo, this week, our incorporeal heroes look back at their demise, caused by Genre essay's and Language portfolio's, and reflect on the whole assessment charade. We talk Gothic and Science Fiction, we discuss approaches to essay's, and Tom talks Alan Moore but then what else is new.

Half-Cut: "I've got 4 Crumhorns"

Today on the show, Cai Martlew, a bright and passionate vegetarian, teaches us a little about this cultural phenomenon called "music." More accurately, we talk about the transcendent emotional quality that music possesses, as well as discussing its roots and evolution, from humble songs of praise to Huey Lewis and the News. As the seminal audio prophets Queens of the Stone Age deftly put it, "God is in the radio," and who are we to disagree with such paragons of intelligent acoustic design.

If all that sounds a tad too high-brow for your liking, I can assure you, it isn't. Sure, we use the phrase "post modernist cultural theory" at one point, and even my brain ran screaming for the nearest asinine subject matter to discuss before it melted. Probably explains why we just end up talking about the Inception horn, musical chat-up lines, and 4chan. Huh.

Welcome back to Full Bodied Literature! On today's show, loveable scamp Gavin Patmore  shares with us a brace of delectable short stories, and talks to us about his love of the "everyman" character. We also discuss his passion for crafting high-definition scenes, before finally shedding some light on the monsters lingering beneath floorboards of suburbia. He even throws in a catchy little ditty about cheeseburgers, for extra added value.

Episode 12: Stream of Constant Gibberish

This week on Full Bodied Literature, we examine the aims and aspects of Experimental Literature, as well as its relevance to the wider world of writing. Sam attempts to dissect the subject with his cutting scalpel of language, before patching the wound together with a soothing balm of Taoist philosophy. Tom on the other hand revels in its constructive chaos, and indulges in the revealing elements of writing straight from the subconscious.

I have to wonder if we're hitting above our weight in this episode. What are your thoughts on the values of Experimental literature: is it a worthwhile medium? Or is it better off staying a seminar writing exercise? Email us your thoughts!

Episode 11: Dot Cotton, Vampire Slayer

Sometimes I wonder if our chronicled audio prattle will ever approximate actual intelligent dialogue. Until that day, here's a podcast.

Today we debate the merits of inserting the fantastic and otherworldly into stories, and whether the underlying social message of the author can survive such an invasion. Imagine, if you will, that half the cast of Coronation Street were revealed to have actually been Dire-Wolves in disguise. Would this aid in an accurate, sensitive depiction of life in Northern England? I'm leaning towards yes.

We also examine the genre differences between what can be classified as "Science-fiction" and "Science-fantasy." Fans of Star Wars, Star Trek or even Starship Troopers will probably find this one interesting. Stargate fans need not apply. No one likes you.

Episode 10: Chicks, Tracts and Other Crap

Tom's title. He speaks of senseless things. Anyway, Podcast!

In this weeks show, time makes a mockery of us both as we discuss its physical and metaphysical properties, as well as its effects on the art of literature. The result is some rather "wibbly-wobbly" ramblings like the sound of some philosophical regurgitating drain. Still, que sera, sera.

We also dip our toes tentatively into exploring the comic form and its inherent narrative strengths: Tom examines the significance of allegory in Maus, while Sam wonders idly off into the effects of experimental structuring and framing, as exemplified in webcomics such as "A Lesson Is Learned." We recommend you check them out, you know, if you're screaming with boredom.

Episode 9: The Rum Dissertations

People, celebrate! For it is episode 9! Yes, it may not be a round number, and yes it may not be of much worth, but we two are unconventional in the ways of celebration, and so decide to get properly, properly pissed an episode early (even if this is technically the twelfth released, but who cares?) with this delightful recipe. Drink along at home!

This week, despite a sedate start from a cold-infused Sam, we start talking dissertation ideas and discuss our love of Alan Moore (Tom) and Hunter S. Thompson (Sam). Ryan then joins us about half way through and we talk at him for a while too. We then talk to him, to make him feel like one of us, where we discuss his dissertation ideas and then move onto comics and Neil Gaiman. Spoiler Warning! We may ruin American Gods and A Study in Emerald –read them first!

And yes, Tom is painfully aware that it’s not Sir Geoffrey, but Sir Humphrey from Yes Minster. He is red faced for his sins.

Today's episode was actually recorded some months ago, when we were toying with the idea of creating a separate podcast entirely for all of our off-topic shenanigans. After careful deliberation and many nights of heavy drinking thinking, we said "sod-it"; lets get some followers here first before we start splitting up the fan-base.

Episode 8a: To Those Who Wait

As I sit here in my cloth dressing-gown writing this synopsis, surrounded by lukewarm cups of sweet tea and boxes of decongestants, I am miserable. And yet, I can not shake this smile and sense of deep alacrity for what I am now privileged to share with you. For you see, after much deliberation, (terrible) planning, and a few instances of "I haven't a bloody clue," it is my pleasure to finally introduce to you our guest for this week.

Today on Full Bodied Literature, James Parsons shares with us a couple of his poems, and discusses his fears on the digital generation and of time ebbing away into the future. We also touch on expected forms in poetry and some...interesting definitions of the word "Todd."

Welcome back to Full Bodied Literature!

You may have noticed it's been quite some time since last we met, for which we apologise profusely. Life (read: University) has a funny way of diverting one's attention elsewhere.

Anyhow! We kick off the new year with ambition and good old fashioned vim, with a plan to start updating the podcast on a weekly basis, whether we have anything worthwhile to discus or not.
