cw: angst
the cool bright moon had provided a comforting light in the empty apartment. the silence had dug itself so deep in your bones you didn't even want to make a sound. the only sound that had echoed in the room was the slight ticks from the clock.
tick..tick..tick....
a repetitive sound that bounced off the walls, the only reason why you believed time was still moving forward. then, it stopped. being interrupted by the sound of the door opening.
the warm lights, that were once off, filled the room. getting rid of the cool moonlight. a touch of warmth that had been absent before. as you took the courage to look up from the couch, there he was, kento. kento was there, standing at your door.
you ran, sprinted in fact, to your doorway, letting kento catch you in his embrace. "you're back..."
"of course sweetheart. i promised, didn't i?" kento took a good look at your face, as if it was the last thing he would ever see. "i missed you, i missed this."
"i thought you were gone...you took so long," his lips crashed on to yours, not letting go until you were both out of breath. he stared at you, panting, his hair disheveled, dirt all around his face, blood on his hair, but it was fine. everything was fine, he was home.
"i'm sorry," kento muttered under his breath. "i'm sorry i took the mission and made you worried, i promise to not do it again," the dam broke, you couldn't stop yourself from bursting into tears. kento's heart broke seeing you like this, because of him.
"i hate you for it ken, but i'm glad you're just back. here," you hugged him once more, tighter.
"i'm glad too, i didn't think i could," his eyes started to water as well. "you know i love you right?"
"yes, of course ken. you show it always."
"i wish i said it more...i wish i said it, instead of only showing it."
"it's fine ken, we have lots of time to dwell on that."
"but you know right? i love you, i love you to the moon and back. i love you forever, in every universe."
"yes ken, i know. i love you too, to the moon and back."
and for this night, as the ticks stop, you believe that the dead do come back.

nothing hits harder than those fanfics on TikTok and the authors that choose the PERFECT song to read it to. like it hits so hard? I understand why people pick songs or make playlists for fics or books
a life with kento nanami is a constant blessing, it's like living life on easy mode.
breakfast prepared and plated by the time you wake up, with your favourite drink beside it. all at the perfect temperature. the wrinkled stack of clean laundry on a random chair in your bedroom? suddenly disappearing to a clean, sorted, and folded stack of laundry, all placed in the correct drawers. sometimes even a random sweet treat that kento had sent to your shared apartment, or even a new bouquet of flowers to replace the wilting ones in the vase.
and yet, the best part of a life with kento is the fact that he is the first and last thing you see in your day. frankly, it cannot get any better than that. so when an urgent problem popped up, he had leave for almost a week, you truly understood how much of a blessing kento's presence was.
"how's your day sweetheart?" kento's voice vibrated through your phone's speaker.
"it went good. i had work like usual, but during my lunch break i was able to meet up with a few of my old friends! remember the girl that i told you about? the one who told me to approach you? ya her!"
kento could only chime in with some hmm's and yup's, but you knew he was listening, he always did. but the more you talked, the more you complained.
"ken, i miss you. when you come home, there's so many things you need to do," you joked.
"like what?" his response only earning a sigh from you.
"so many things....like the flowers! they're almost all wilted!"
"you're so spoiled, love."
"you made me like this. remember?" you could hear kento's faint chuckle from your phone, as if he was trying to hide his enjoyment. "the last time i tried replacing the wilted flowers, you bought 2 more vases of flowers!"
"i never said it was a bad thing....i love the fact that you let me do all of this for you. i wish i could spoil you more,"
