From his temples are bunches of grapes, not unlike the jewels that sparkled on his body like stars or the spillage of wine. He takes in a deep sigh before turning to the party, a mist of alcohol clouding his gaze. "Would you like a drink?"

When I first read this book, it was a love at first sight. I remember being completely engrossed, so much so that I devoured it in a single day. I was my favourite book of all time for years.

Nowadays, I'm much more aware of its problematic aspects, but I still cherish it. I'm so grateful it exists and continues to inspire amazing artists - among them, the creators of the wonderful TV series that I adore so much.
