Watching this video and him getting more and more disappointed as the episode goes on is chilling me ngl. This is the version of the script that didn't even have the tower scene in it btw, so this is him as a queer actor realising that they gave his character absolutely no closure and a shitty arc where he "realises" that the love of his life was just a crush to get over in a day without anything from said crush to determine if he's fine with that. He's been the *gay consultant* for the show since the beginning and he was so excited to read the script for episode 4 when he had powers, he probably was excited to see where his characters' powers took the character arc but no, they really just gave him nothing in this episode and the fact he was terrified to go up to the Duffers and ask for a little scene change speaks volumes.

He looks genuinely upset along with the rest of the cast. I feel bad for all of them. They dedicated a decade of their childhoods to this show and were totally fucked over, and they knew that the fans would hate it.

#1 joyce henry friendship enjoyer and mourner oh my god they werent even close close but shes was a mentor!!! supporter!! friend!! she got him into the play and got him to talk to people and respected his boundaries and genuinely cared about him. she wanted to help him so bad and thats so clear during the power outage scene like oughh she recognized he wasnt himself and that he was being manipulated oww. she was one of the only people in tfs to not manipulate or use or harm henry. like brenner and patty and virginia are all important to henry and he got a little screwed over by all of them. casting henry as the lead was a massive risk to joyces chance at a scholarship but she still did it BECAUSE SHE SAW SOMETHING IN HIM.

i’m so disappointed. i’m upset. the duffers said they’re not trying to upset anyone but then proceed to off henry in the cruelest way possible. they force him to face his trauma, then he’s crying, and they have the AUDACITY to keep forcing the villain narrative. he didn’t want this. why?! why can’t they let him be happy? this isn’t fair. he had his life stolen from him when he was EIGHT. you had the chance to make him happy, and you stole it. why the hell, in what fucking world do i want to see my favorite character, the only one i care about, not only suffer, but get his head chopped off. cruel. disgusting. they couldn’t even make joyce acknowledge that they knew each other. we were so close to getting henry’s backstory, joyce’s play, and it was shut down. and then they decide to not even include patty, the girl who PROVED henry was never evil to begin with. i’m so sick. i’m sobbing. i’m so upset. i hated that scene, it was so painful to watch. it wasn’t supposed to end like this. he was so close, so so so close. they were supposed to go through his memories. had he remembered patty he wouldn’t have died. i can’t even type this my tears are blurring my vision. don’t ever, ever go through the time and money to create a broadway show with this “villain”. then humanize him. make us all root for him to get saved, and then kill him off so brutally. not only that, but torture us with the scenes of him crying and struggling at his trauma. i’m so… oh my god. my whole week is about to be ruined. i shouldn’t have trusted the duffers im so heartbroken. to think that i had some hope they wouldn’t give him such a horrible ending. i don’t want to talk to anyone, im not happy at all, im just so devastated. and disappointed. to make him flayed for longer than he’d been unflayed is so, so awful. he couldn’t fight the mindflayer off. he deserved to. duffers, im disappointed. should’ve never have made the first shadow if you were never going to save him in the first place.

you deserved better and i’m sorry that everyone let you down. not just the adults around you, but the people writing your story.

Henry gave Hopper a vision warning him he wasn’t going to be able to save El, that El and Kali had a suicide pact, that this plan was going to result in El’s death. And then he very notably did not kill Hopper.

Henry saved El and Kali and did not kill Hopper when he could and should have killed all three of them in one go, because he had the element of surprise.

Henry is kinder and more caring at his very worst than Joyce and Hopper are overall in ST5, despite the fact that the protags are an active threat to his life. See also: Henry fully refraining from simply killing El in the Creel house after she’d been caught in the grasp of his Vecna hand.

I'd also like to add that in S5E4, when Joyce tried to (in a very futile attempt) protect Will from Vecna after Vecna had spent plenty of time killing every soldier in sight. He tossed Joyce to the side but very specifically did not kill her.

Which probably wasn't the Mind Flayer making that decision, so it was Henry. Henry spared her, but no one cared.

They definitely make it seem like Henry cared a lot more about his former classmates than they ever cared about him.

Like I usually HATE calling writing good or bad, it's an art form that is extremely subjective. And I've seen creators evade questions when they're working on sequels and can't reveal information yet. But the series is over. There aren't any upcoming plans for sequels.

This is what I'd call bad writing. Not knowing why you're doing things, not knowing about the characters and world beyond what's on screen. Basically saying to go ask the actor to find out the character's future because the actors clearly care more about the characters than they do!

And it's normal to not know everything about a long story upfront. Sometimes you need to be flexible and make changes because that's art. But WHY, then, are there some things that they supposedly always had planned from the beginning that are shit choices that should have changed but didn't because they're stubborn, and then random things that did change for apparently no reason??

Which is why the more they do these interviews, the worse it gets. If they shut their mouths and never said any of this shit, it'd be easier to assume competency and that there were reasons for things being the way they were. But nah, there are full on massive story details that they just didn't think about, apparently.

The chemistry between the actors and their love for their roles and this show is what held it together. Not the Duffers.

"i started bringing it up again and they told me "noah shut up. it was one. it was one time."" that's them having to be begged for the queer character's storyline to have closure. then noah, someone that's actually from the queer community you should at least pretend to want to represent correctly, tells you it's still not right, not enough, and you shut him up because you allowed it one time already.
