I feel so maternal towards her it hurts.
Hopper (Stranger Things) is everything that Alexei (MCU) could never be
I said what I said
el. eleven. jane. or whatever else you wanna call her–
i see some people HATE on those who call her with the nickname "el" and i totally understand why
el - comes from the number eleven - basically comes from being the eleventh experiment subject in the lab - comes from what papa always called her in the lab - comes from a place full of traumas for her
but i still like calling her el better than jane
in my opinion jane was her "fit in" persona
the one with which she wanted to be seen as a NORMAL girl and nothing else.
but eleven is not like other girls.
she has her past. her painful memories. peculiar things that make her extremely happy. superpowers. and scratching that name for good would only turn her back to everything she had been until now.
she doesn't have to change her name to prove that she belongs with people she sees as "normal".
the main trait coming to my mind regarding el is loyal. she is the most loyal person ever. and that is something "jane" would never get. because jane lived a normal life. however, el has traumas, she has seen violence, she killed in self defense, she almost got into jail, she has anger issues, i could continue but i'm lazy
el is all that.
ANDDDDD my headcanon is that when she gets older (bc she obv survived since s5 is trash), she still goes by "el", she finally choose to OWN her name, she even finds quite an attachment to it and not giving two cents to those wondering why her friends call her el, like she stays mysterious and she has that proper self realization that a name is meaningless and is solely defined by our own actions.
- who are you ?
- [insert name]
- that tells me nothing about you tho.
Man the whole cousin/brother ordeal with Mike and El was such a weird move to start off the building of their relationship even if it may not seem serious to others like sure Mike and Will as a pairing got dunked off but at least Byler fans can sleep cozy at night knowing that they never got “sibling coded”.
Don't know if anyone would describe them as "sibling-coded" tbh but yes, I do find the "El called Mike her brother in season 1" a weird writing decision by the duffers? I suppose it was just an attempt at humor. Like "haha El called Mike brother and Mike didn't like that".
Similarly for Mike introducing El as "my cousin!" to Mr. Clarke. They did it for the humor, but as a writing decision it made no sense if you wanted these characters to date in later seasons? lol. Why didn't they just have Dustin lie instead? My guess is: they knew El was gonna die/disappear by the end, so they didn't care about the optics of anything.
Its just further proof that the Duffers never envisioned a future for El at all. She was used as a plot device for progressing Mike's story in both season 1 and season 5. That's kind of why I don't buy the whole "Mike and El were written as soulmates since day one" bullshit. It's just not a well-written love story or compelling ship to me.
This whole brother/cousin ordeal definitely made things harder for Milevens in the shipping-environment though. Their ship already has some weird "straight-boy-fantasy" elements and this gave more ammunition for Bylers' to argue that "El wasn't ready to date anyone, she called Mike her brother afterall!"
JANEEE fanart ahh
i love her so so so much
