This a long post but please read to the end!
I know I know some of you personally, and others I do not.
My name is Lorin, and I am a BFA Performance and Production Theatre major at Texas State University, I am also in the Honors College, I am trying to graduate with a minor in honors. To do this I have to do a Thesis, Luckily I can do a creative thesis. This being said let me get to the point of this post:
Mental illness has played a large part in my life, in middle school I was diagnosed with severe depression, and though it is much, much better now I still have bumps in the road from time to time, we all do. It runs in my family, and also I have a brother that is Bipolar. My goal in life is to inspire people to not let their past control and hinder their futures, but to allow it to teach you to go forward in life and let it fuel you to continue to do better and achieve what you really want out of life. But this project isn’t about me, it is about you! I want to shed light on mental illness and to not look at it as a negative, but to shine light on it, that people with a mental illness are not that illness, but people with an illness.
With that being said, here is why I am posting this, I need you! If you have a mental illness, or know someone with a mental illness I would appreciate hearing your story and/or your relationship with that person, to help me better understand and give each illness the respect it deserves. Do not feel pressured to give names, it can be anonymous, and I will respect your rights to confidentiality.
So, now you may be asking what I am going to do with these stories? My plan is to write 4 or 5 (possibly more depending) monologues and have a corresponding makeup to represent each illness. Eventually these words and makeups will be brought to life and performed by the end of 2015. I will be sure to give credit in my writings, with your permission.
Please reblog and be sure to share with family and friends. I would love to have a wide variety of experiences and perspectives.
Stay Strong, Positive, Breathe, and know it will get better even if it has to get worse first!
Ps. Feel free to continue to share your stories with me after my thesis is completed, who knows maybe it will turn into something more!
