Morning pineapple reflections
Since I hit 300,000 subscribers, I made a song with 300,000 notes in it. Totally logical.
In a spur of the moment decision, I decided to go to a concert last night featuring Old Earth (not pictured), Rob Scallon, Andrew Huang, Harry and the Potters, Driftless Pony Club, and Hank Green and the Perfect Strangers, and I’m so glad I did. Not only did I get to see a really full lineup of performers for only $20, but they were so much better live than I expected.
I knew of Hank Green through his YouTube channels, and I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan, but not gonna lie, I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to go at first since I didn’t know most of the performers. Sure, I find Hank’s music entertaining in a nerdy way, but it’s not my favorite musically. I listened to Harry and the Potters on Spotify for the first time pretty recently to see what they were like, and while I liked the HP references, I thought their sings were just okay. I wanted so bad to fall in love with their actual music, but I simply didn’t. :/
I ended up going to the concert anyway and…I was blown away by how amazing it was. Old Earth (who was a surprise act!) and Rob Scallon are both crazy talented guitarists, and Andrew Huang is so creative with his “instruments” (he composed a song using, among other things, quinoa and a can of beans). Harry and the Potters ended up being SUPER AWESOME LIVE OMG. Driftless Pony Club is probably my favorite in terms of musicality, and I’m definitely going to listen to them going forward. Hank Green and the Perfect Strangers had the most stage presence and energy (with HatP being a close second). It was so much more fun and enjoyable than I had originally anticipated, so I was very pleasantly surprised.
If you’re in SF, they’re performing again today (Tuesday). If not, they still have some stops on their tour left.
I need to save this so I can just read it live in a video as a testimonial the the next time we go on tour. I understand that the thing we do is weird, but I think we also do a pretty good job :-). Headed to LA and San Diego in the next two days if you’re in those places! Tickets still available.
