“You know…” Jack couldn’t resist the smile that crept its way into his features, and in spite of the burning in his cheeks, he took a step closer. If he didn’t know better, he’d have sworn his heart was about to leap out of his chest. “- there are a lot of folks who would probably say that I’m not in my right mind, so I suppose that works out.”

WIP Draft | Untitled Modern AU smooch re-write 😂 2500+ Words

Light miscommunication / misunderstanding trope warning, but it’s not terribly drawn out, and it all ends well lmao

Excerpt:

“I didn’t know that you… felt that way.” Jack very much anticipated the glare of annoyed disbelief that he was suddenly on the receiving end of as Edward dried his hands. “I know, I know, it sounds asinine. How could I not? But I told you before it’s been at least ten years since the last time I was in… any kind of relationship. And even then, I never was any good at picking up on that sort of thing. Dare I say it’s probably part of the reason none of those ever worked out. Let alone my fear of being open about… all of that. About who I really am.”

He wanted to say more - that most of those relationships were naive and half-assed and touch-and-go, and that what he’d come to feel for Edward was so very different and genuine and heartfelt in comparison, and something he wasn’t sure he’d ever really experienced before - but he didn’t want to play all of his cards just yet.
