Number-Crunching and Female Companion Dynamics

I love to crunch numbers. And I love to complain about there not being enough women in the places I live and work and play. (Engineer gamer geek. It gets lonely.) So, I thought, now that I’m playing KOTOR 2 and enjoying companion dynamics, I would revisit the subject of why are there so few female companions in the BioWare-style RPGs I love? Revisiting means that, yes, this will recycle a lot of content from previous rants I’ve posted elsewhere. Well, here I organize and state it again in an in-depth analysis. With numbers!

With Bribes or Blasters | Smuggler | SWTOR “This is the place to get everything you never knew you wanted. The only laws are the ones people make with bribes or blasters.” -Risha My Chiss smuggler. I’m pretty in love with him, ngl (I’ve mentioned this before, haven’t I?). I feel like I spent ages on this picture. Why is that darn smuggler’s jacket so detailed and complicated to draw?? But it felt good to draw my smuggler again, I’ve only done one other one for him (which looks so bad now when I compare the two). The pose is deliberately stolen from that Han Solo picture. You know the one (if you don’t just go Google ‘Han Solo’ under pictures and you’ll probably see it pop up real fast). I meant to do it as like a homage/tribute/sort of thing, kinda. I figured for SWTOR my smuggler would be hanging out at the smuggler’s moon, Nar Shadda, so thus the super purple-pink bright lights. (I’ll admit the idea of the contrast of bright pink against Chiss blue skin is what first really appealed to me about doing this.) I gave him Han’s blaster pistol too because I love how it looks (and I hate the guns he has right now and I don’t even have any good SWTOR blaster pistol reference pics so yeah). Hope you guys like it. I’m gonna go take a much needed brain break now and play some SWTOR. xD (more SWTOR art)

I bent the rules a little and threw Val into one of the Agent-only trenchcoats, because it’s just so much seedier and “Nar Shaddaa spice smuggler” than anything else. BioWare, why do you tease us so, and give all the coolest toys to the Imps …

30 Day SWTOR Character Challenge

Fill this out however you see fit. Rambling is encouraged. You don’t necessarily have to answer the ‘questions’ in the description they are there for the sake of a starting point. But most importantly…

1. Introduction: Let’s get to know your character. Say a little bit about them, basic stuff like name, class etc and a little basic overview of who they are. Pictures if you have them.

2. Appearances: What does your character look like? Does your character like the way they look? Do they have any insecurity about how they look? How about things like scars?

3. Personality: Let’s get into your character’s head for a bit and see what makes them tick. What’s their personality? Do they put on a front? What about flaws? Phobias? How do they view and treat others?

4. Morals: Even if they may get misplaced from time to time, everyone has morals. What are your character’s? Are they completely ‘by the book’? Do they have a line they would never ever cross? Are they ‘light side’, ‘dark side’ or somewhere in the middle?

5. Alliances: Sure they’re working for The Empire or The Republic but why? Is it out of patriotism? Or is it a simple case of what side is paying better?

6. Motivation: Why does your character do what they do? Are they trying to make the Galaxy a better place? Make their parents proud? Or is it just money?

7. Childhood: What was your character’s childhood like? Did they have a happy family? Or did they grow up on the streets?

8. Family: Does your character have a family or people they regard as family? Do they get along? Or is your character a lone ranger with no ties?

9. Allies: Does your character have any allies? People they can hopefully count on to pull them out of a jam?

10. Rivals: Conversely do they have any rivals? What is the nature of this rivalry? Is the rival still around?

11 The Crew: What does your character think of their crew? Do they get along with all of them or do they want to throw certain people out the airlock?

12. Home: Where’s home for your character? Do they have a ‘bricks and mortar’ place to go home to when a job is done or do they spend their time going from place to place?

13. The Ship: How does your character view their ship? Is it just a tool or is it something more to them? Does their ship have a meaningful name?

14. On the road: How does your character feel about all this travelling? Do they love getting to hop from place to place and explore or would they much rather just stick in one place?

15. Downtime: Okay since this is the halfway point, let’s take a bit of a break. What does your character get up to when there’s nothing major that needs to be done?

16. Working: Okay, breaks over. What does your character think of their ‘work’? Do they like what they do? What would they do if they could try something a bit different?

17. Planets: Does your character have a planet they particularly like visiting? Is there somewhere they never, ever, ever want to go to again?

18. Skills: Is there anything your character is particularly good at?

19. Not your strong suite: Conversely, is there something your character isn’t so good at? Do they admit this or do they blag it?

20. Love and Lust: Oh boy. How does your character view love? Romance? Are they looking for a relationship or are they just content with a fling? What about their orientation? What about their first kiss or even their ‘first time’? What about their ‘history’?

21. Relationships: Does your character have a special someone? Are they developing feelings for someone in their crew? How do they get on? What do they like about them? What don’t they like about them? How far has this relationship gone?

22. Oh somehow your character due to some strange wibbly, wobbly timey wimey stuff has ended up in our world for a little while. How does your character react to you? What do they get up to?

23. Favourite things: Does your character have a favourite food? Drink? Colour? Weapon? Person? Animal?

24. Successes and Failures: What’s something your character managed to do pretty well? Did they get the drop on a big target? Get their squad out of a tight spot? Conversely, no one can win all the time, what’s something your character did that went wrong? What was the outcome? How did they cope with it?

25. Regrets: Everyone has something they wish they hadn’t done. Is there anything your character really wishes they hadn’t said/done or wishes they could fix? Have they tried to make amends?

26. Choices. Everyone has to make choices. What are a few choices your character has made? What was the outcome? Did your character stick by their choice?

27. Politics: Does your character care about politics? Do they have a big issue they wish was addressed? Or could they care less?

28. Beliefs: What does your character believe? Do they have a code of honour? What about The Force?

29. Theme song: Does your character have a theme song? Is there certain songs that just describe your character at different points in time? Do you have a playlist for them?

30 The Future: We’re at the end, yay! Your character has saved the galaxy (or they may have doomed it) what’s next for them?
