Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. He blinked. The paperback was dogearred and, upon flipping through it, marked up with pencil notes and highlighted in multiple sections. But he stopped, his eyes transfixed on Murphy’s scrawled handwriting - What would I do for the people who have done for me? Sinking to the couch, the precious book in his hands, he opened the cover and looked at the first page, imagining her french tipped nails running over the words as she settled in to read for what had to have been hundreds of times. There were photos shoved between the pages - he recognized her in some of them. Standing outside a bombed out house in what looked like Vietnam, her face covered in blood. Outside Saigon. The caption read. 1970. He stared at the photo, traumatized for her, wondering exactly what had happened. Another with her standing between two sailors near a ship, laughing, With Seaman Davis and Antony. 1970. Views of cliffs and oceans, no caption. One of a little boy in a tattered shirt, tears on his face. He flipped the photo to see if she’d marked the date. Outside Bombay. 1979. It was easy for him to forget how much time she’d spent in the trenches.
Official Post from Shauna Brock: Goodbye to My HeroI posted about Murphy Brown when the revival was announced last year. I talked about my childhood dreams coming back, my love of writing being reinvigorated through the fanfic I wrote. I rambled and Jake and Murphy and the power of love and activism and all that jazz. So, I won’t g
i am begging y’all…….can we please talk about these disney prince and princess stares? because i’m never over it
MURPHY: Avery, you can’t do this. AVERY: Well, tell me you wouldn’t have done the same thing when you were my age. MURPHY: Well, this is different. AVERY: Why? MURPHY: Because you’re my son.
So, it’s been a while, friends. We were waiting for the news and it went down to the wire, but the 13 episodes was all we got.
Thank you to Candice and Diane for this vision. Thank you to the cast and crew for making this possible. It wasn’t perfect, but it was special.
We aren’t going anywhere. Fic is still being written, gifs are still being made. But for those of you who have been on this journey ... thank you.

When thinking about “formative” OTPs, I always come back to Murphy and Peter on Murphy Brown. It’s funny, because I hadn’t clicked into those feelings since I was a teenager watching the show, but as I re-watched last year, it all jumped out at me how important they were to my romantic development. They weren’t “friends” but they were attracted to each other from the start, and over time, they became friends, they challenged each other, they pushed each other, and they were willing to enter into a relationship with the understanding that it would probably fail but it was worth it to try. I mean, how important is that to show to young women especially? That you can risk love, enjoy love, and also recover from heartbreak when it ends. While I don’t agree with the writers at all about how they ended the relationship on the show (hence my epic fanfics that “fix” it) I really do appreciate how they showed two people willing to work through their issues, willing to learn about each other, willing to be vulnerable with each other, and who were capable of ending it when it seemed like things might not work out. They didn’t drag it out, they didn’t make it some horrible thing. Sometimes, relationships just end. But through it all, Peter and Murphy were mature, funny, and completely in love.
So … I just posted fic #50 in the Come Rain, Come Shine series. I might have a problem. I might love these two way too much. I don’t care. Murphy and Peter represent so much to me and I love them.
50. I’ve written FIFTY fics in this series alone.
Goddess help me … I ain’t stopping any time soon.
Having a hard day? Listen to Murphy sing “Tomorrow”! (Her voice is beautiful, haha!) 💜
The actor and comedian, who also stars in "Escape Room" and "Atypical," said he feels “fortunate to have come up in a more progressive time” in Hollywood.
“To have an openly gay character of color, played by an openly gay actor of color, on a network sitcom is pretty dope.” 🌈📺
Deeper than fandom question of the day …
Inspired by a non-fandom conversation that became one because the example worked…
If you are Murphy Brown and you want to date the Peter Hunts of the world … what is it that keeps sending you back to the Jerry Golds? What stops you from believing you are worth what you actually desire in your life?
“Your sentence is having to live with yourself. So go do what you want. I feel sorry for you. You’re pathetic, and what you do is pathetic. My satisfaction is in knowing I’m the kind of person who doesn’t need to crawl in the gutter with you.”

This long-ass text post doesn’t really match the theme of my blog, but you know what I love about the episode “Funnies Girl”? It covers the topic of emotional abuse really, really well.
