hey sorry, decided to check out your blog because you liked a post of mine and i didn't recognize you so apologies for being mildly nosy. but i wanted to say that inkscape (as i understand it) is veeeeeery very good for lineart, but krita (how i use it) is so vastly superior for sketching and little doodles! i've really gotta start using inkscape for my lineart. i saw a friend of mine use it on stream and the lining works very similar to sai (but it's free and not a pain in the ass... i renamed it to "pain tool sigh" for a reason...) anyway i just wanted to say hi! happy drawing!!!! may your hand never cramp and may you always remember your stretches!!!

I've been pretty busy with college (I'm majoring in bioinformatics, maybe this will become a genomics blog who can say) so I haven't had much time for doodles, but I've figured out that Krita is definitely more what I'm looking for, a raster art program. Inkscape is for vector art, which is great for scaling figures for research papers and I line art like you said, but not ideal for what I do, which is (I would say) more writing-based with some simple ancillary doodles. I have to say I've been slow-cooking some stories I want to tell in my head, and I hope to get to them someday! Something with Chez Egg. I like Chez Egg. Which takes place in central Massachusetts. I want it to have a very strong sense of place, but I need to learn to draw convincing backgrounds first, I'm fine with doodle-esque people but these New England forests have gotta be pristine! Pristine, I tell you!

Also, my hands don't tend to crap as easily just because I do all this on a track pad. I more have to worry about my laptop overheating than carpaling my tunnels.

I just tried Krita for the first time. I normally use GIMP only because I'm vaguely familiar with the tools, and I tried inkscape at one point but it didn't really fit my (very stupid) needs. But Krita seems very intuitive, and I may actually, for real this time, make better and more detailed environments. Not people yet, we're sticking with stick figures. From all the very serious and very real tutorials for real artists on how to draw the smallest minutiae of the human form, I think I'll stick with my rubber hose hommunculi for the time being, thankyouverymuch. But detailed, colored environments-- especially trees, the story I want to draw has a lot of trees-- are something I want to improve on.

I am also in the market for the second-cheapest wine drawing stylus on the menu-- I'm trying to improve my tools somewhat, but I'm in no way an artist. I don't trust myself with pens that have a button, I don't think I can trust myself with an expensive stylus. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I have an extremely bad chromebook with GalliumOS that I can use as a very bad drawing tablet, but I'd have to look into that more.

I wish I could draw like you. I remember when I first discovered your art style when I was in like the 7th grade. been struggling trying to figure out how tf you draw eyes since 😭 im 19 now and imma be fr my ass just gave up

You still just a baby, you got plenty of time if you still wanted to. I actually didn't start improving much until I was around your age.

As for drawing eyes, that just comes naturally to me you see, as an eyeball monster.

I know I draw kinda sorta. I’ve been super busy with AP tests but that all changes tomorrow where I cry about integrands. I want to try changing the format, making it a comic published by page so it’s easier to do the continuous stories I want to make. Also figuring out how to use Gimp isn’t that hard, but I feel like a damn genius when it works. I’ve had something like 2/3rds done for a couple weeks now and I need to get around to that. Okay that’s it see ya on the other side of the continental divide
