it would be so good if it wasn't bad!
im mud. late 20s queer. freak, pervert, and communist
here, a sideblog for my favourite bad fictions -- star wars and twilight. this is not a crossover thing, just my free-range dump of fandom engagement that i wish to keep away from my cool main blog (@mudwisard btw).
first things first!
Disney+ is a priority target for the BDS movement working against genocide and apartheid in occupied Palestine. i urge everyone to be mindful and deliberate in their fan engagement, and i have every intention of keeping the boycott going for the foreseeable future. i will never condone slinging over cash to the mouse! read more about BDS here, and please donate to Palestinian fundraisers!
stephenie meyer's portrayal of the Quileute people is a gross, stereotypical and racist caricature. Quileute nation have not seen any financial support or compensation despite the overwhelming economic success of the twilight franchise. i think it is our responsibility as readers to learn about actual Quileute culture and society, which you can do here, as well as donating to the Quileute move to higher ground project
i've been a star wars fan since i was a kid, but it got cemented since I began listening to the podcast A More Civilized Age. my star wars engagement generally goes as far as to where AMCA have progressed, and a few of the never series. Anakin can kill kids a little bit, if he wants. maybe the jedi are bad actually. etc. i cheer when talk about space-tax-policies come up.
my first deliberate engagement with the twilight series was in 2022, when I read through all the books in a few weeks, and i've had the vampire brainrot ever since. i am forever on team Bella-should-get-what-she-wants. but i mainly enjoy the series as an aesthetic object-ii too enjoy alt-rock and gloomy forests--rather than for any commentary it may have (smeyer is too mormon-brained for me).
i may post about other adjacent fandoms as well!
