HTC U Ultra Review: HTC's Weirdest, Most Beautiful Phone Yet

Five or six years ago, HTC was a titan of the smartphone world. But the past half-decade hasn't been kind to the Taiwanese company. It's lost money, market share and several high-profile designers and executives.

Nevertheless, HTC's still here, and still making pretty good phones, both under its own brand name and for Google under the Pixel contract. The latest high-ender to come out of HTC is this, the U Ultra.

So does HTC still have some of its old magic left? Or, at US$750, is it asking too much for too little?

It's the first phablet-sized HTC flagship in more than three years, and while it's a big, bezelly beast, it also packs an impressive glass-backed design, and internals upgraded from last year's HTC 10. Samsung Galaxy S8: Does It Suck? [Unbox Therapy]

Is the Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8 Plus the best smartphone ever?

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ (Plus) represent the most advanced Android smartphones on the market. The Galaxy S8 is not without it's quirks... It's got an unusual aspect ratio, lower than maximum screen resolution out of the box and no real enhancement to battery life (from the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge).

The change in aspect ratio give you a slender phone which still packs an enormous screen. The Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch display and feels smaller in the hand than most 5.5-inch phones (including the iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel XL).

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is likely the "screen champ" right now as well, with an amazing AMOLED panel and resolution up to 2,960 x 1,440 pixels. You will not be disappointed with the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus.

Still, the world of Android smartphones has advanced tremendously (especially in the $400 retail range). So what do you think, is the Samsung Galaxy S8 worth it's premium price tag?

Samsung's Galaxy S8 is primed to be one of the biggest phones of the year. But at prices that reach all the way up to $850, you'd be forgiven for wanting to wait on it. That means its a good time to look at one of the hottest phones of last year, the Galaxy S7. Is it still worth putting down your hard-earned dollars for last year's leftovers?

The good news: the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are still outstanding smartphones worthy of a long look, especially once they get discounted following the Galaxy S8 release.

The better news: there are other, still-cheaper smartphones out there worth a look as well.

The bad news: neither of these options will get you a Galaxy S8.
