a frustrated sigh escaped melchior as he looked over the classes and events list for the summer camp. there was nothing remotely interesting to him. or at least he told himself they weren’t interesting because he wasn’t going to fall pray to being brainwashed. “they should at least have a small class that teaches basic sign language -- i could teach it. or maybe something that isn’t making jewelry or painting. i don’t see how either of those have anything to do with camping, but they’re a common theme,” he said, tossing the paper to the side. “what do you think? what would you want to learn about while we’re here.”

Allie sat at one of the many outdoor tables that lined the side of the cafe, sketchbook and materials laid out before her. While drawing was a hobby of hers that she often kept a secret, she tried to get as much practice as she could. It was the least she could do considering her parents refused to allow her to go to art school. Her pencil scribbled across the page in a purposeful manner, her gaze occasionally flickering upward to take a peek at her subject once more. But when she looked up this time around they were staring straight at her. She nervously cleared her throat as she noticed them looking at her sketch. “I’m sorry if this creepy… you’re more than welcome to keep the drawing as an apology. I’m not even sure it’s that good or not.” She was still far too insecure about her abilities.

melchior kept flipping through the pages of the book he was working on, but he’d lost interest in it. it had grown boring and predictable before he even met the middle -- but maybe he just had high expectations for books anymore. he looked up and met eyes with the woman, brows furrowing together. “no, you can keep it,” he said, shaking his head as he stole a few glances at the drawing. “are you an art student?” he asked, not sure if he’d seen the other at the university or not. then again, he didn’t find himself spending much time around art students.

To say the male was desperate wouldn’t be far from the truth. Han had no idea where the falcon was or how he even gotten there. His new face did startle him a bit but that wasn’t of importance now. He stood outside of the local auto shop, amazed at the planet’s lack of common resources. His irritation was evident in his voice as he slammed his hand on the building’s wall. “ No ships or cruisers, what kind of planet is this??  And I thought Jakku was a junkyard, this place sure is hopeless. Hey kid, you know of a way to get out of here?? I need to get to the outer rim and fast. ”

If there was one thing that could easily annoy Melchior, it was being called kid. He wasn’t a kid anymore, really, so he wouldn’t easily take it -- especially from someone who looked to be in his age range. His brows furrowed. “It’s not exactly a maze, kid. You’ve got three options -- your feet, the bus, or a car. Though, I’m not sure what or where this outer rim is, so I’ll leave it to you to figure out which will be best for you,” he said curtly.

“i’ve never seen such a tacky town before. it’s almost amusing and i hate it. like, look at your outfit for instance: i think it perfectly reflects just how drab and behind the times this place is,” alois commented, voice a bit too cheery considering what he said. “you should let me dress you up and then you can come be part of my staff. that would be fun, wouldn’t it? at least you would look nice. i was going to have a small party to celebrate my arrival, but i don’t want it to look like a throwback reminiscing the supposed great things of the nineties. boring,” he said, giving a sigh. “do you think i should still have it? i might have to send out outfits to everyone to avoid disaster.”

melchior had been avoiding the other the moment he spotted him, knowing very well that the other looked rich and annoying. but, of course, there was no avoiding those who had an ego to feed like some ravenous and starved dog. he only half listened to the mini speech, wishing he was anywhere but here. hell, he’d even rather had hanschen here instead. “i really don’t care if you have it or not ‘cause i won’t be there and neither will i be part of your staff. i you hate this place so much already, maybe you should fuck off and go back to where you came from,” he said, rolling his eyes as he brushed past the other.

“Rexy!  Rexy, here boy!”  Tyler called after a small Jack Russell, running down the street with a red leash dragging behind him.  The man was in shape, so chasing after his dog wasn’t taking much of a physical toll on him, but his dog was still running way too fast for him to catch up.  Luckily for him, Rexy stopped to sniff at a nearby person’s shoes and Tyler scooped him up.  “Sorry, he’s kind of a free spirit.”  He apologized.

Melchior wouldn’t even notice the dog if he didn’t almost trip over it, carefully catching himself without stepping on the small creature. He gave a soft huff of relief and annoyance. “No, it’s fine. I just didn’t want to step on him,” he said, hands subtly moving with his words. He was so used to speaking to his deaf friends and helping with ASL classes that it was just ingrained in him at this point. “You should find a way to attach him to your belt or something.”

Despite their known rivalry, Hanschen always having been second top of the class and Melchior being the top, there was something about the rebellious boy that always drew Hanschen in. That vainglory? How he looked in his school uniform when they were younger? How sure of himself he seemed? Probably all of the above. He would be lying if he said he didn’t think about having sex with the other, especially after a certain encounter between the two. He had stumbled upon the sight of Melchior and Wendla having sex when they were still in high school, the two having decided to do it in an empty barn near his home. Instead of looking away, he stood there hidden and transfixed on the sight of Melchior thrusting into Wendla. He had ended up with a mess in his pants and a heavy weight of guilt to bear from then on. He was finishing up one of his many deaf education courses, the one, in particular, Melchior was the TA in, everyone filing out of the classroom quickly and leaving them alone. “Hey Melchi,” he mimicked the nickname Moritz gave him in a teasing manner. “What are the chances of you helping me with this assignment?” Asking for help on something was uncharacteristic for the boy, which probably made it obvious that he had other intentions than just working.

Melchior didn’t particularly appreciate being stuck with Hanschen as much as he was after they’d graduated, but there wasn’t anything he could do about it. Grin and bear it without the grinning part. He was used to the other always teasing him, so he’d grown very used to ignoring him. But using Moritz’ nickname made him pause for just a moment as he was organizing papers. He gave Hanschen a glare and a huffy sigh. The other never asked for help, so obviously he wanted something else. “Helping you? What happened to the Hanschen that can do any assignment without any extra help? Are you finally admitting that I rightfully deserve my spot as number one?” He teased back, stepping around the other to return the papers to a pile on the desk. “What do you actually want, Hanschen?”

A huffy sigh escaped Moritz as he saw the devastating mess left behind by a particularly energetic and disorganized family. Normally, he wouldn’t mind his job, but this was outright ridiculous. As he started to gather up the dishes and turned to take them to the back, he slipped on some spilled ketchup. Dishes came clattering down with him. He cringed before noticing he splashed someone with left over milkshake. Quickly jumping up, he proceeded to try to wipe the mess off of the other. ‘Sorry, sorry,’ he signed.

Melchior had come into the small restaurant to not only grab some food, but also to check in on Moritz. They didn’t hang out much lately and Melchior was itching to spend time with his best friend again. As he was walking in, he saw the other cleaning up. But, as he approached, Moritz fell. He winced at the sight. He shook his head, preferring to help the other rather than receive it. ‘No, you’re fine. They like to work you like a dog here. You deserve better.’

“Happy couples literally make me want to bang my head against a wall… and it’s just going to get worse as Valentine’s Day gets closer. Don’t these people know they’re just fooling themselves? Love isn’t real, it’s a chemical reaction in the brain – and a temporary one at that.”

“Valentine’s Day is bullshit anyway. They trick you into thinking you have to spend grandiose amounts of money to show you actually care about someone or else you get into a big fight with that person. If love was real, then you wouldn’t need to show it through material goods,” he agreed, arms crossed over his chest.

“I swear if one more person tries to order a goddamn Unicorn Frapp…” Gabe muttered under his breath, being sent to the back to make orders. It wasn’t his fault, people were just so frustrating. Did they look like a Starbucks? No. So what was the point in ordering a cavity filled, cotton candy looking nightmare? None! Sighing, he walked over with the imitation drink in hand, raising an eyebrow at the customer waiting patiently by the pickup counter. “Please don’t tell me you’re the sad sap who ordered the Unicorn Frappuccino.” Did that count as being mean to customers? Probably, but what was one more lecture about customer service?

Melchior was waiting patiently for his regular coffee, one earbud in as his hands  rested in his pockets. But, as he was addressed, he looked up and crinkled his nose. “Do I look like someone who would order that? This isn’t even Starbucks, why’d you make it?” He asked, obviously slightly offended that someone would think he would order the too sweet trendy drink despite the other not knowing him. It was a bit too early for him to think of being less perturbed about everything.
