His head tilted to one side, having to wonder for a split second if Gabriela had actually shown up empty-handed, intending to simply gloat that he wouldn’t be prepared for the quiz next week. But, no, she wasn’t quite that wicked – there was a catch. His expression soured slightly, genuinely going a little pouty now. “Ah, I should’ve known that you’d want to make me your whipping boy.” Brandon heaved a sigh, as if he ever did a singular nice thing for someone else without the intention of getting something in return. Yeah, right. “What sort of favors do you want? Actually, no – lemme see the notes before I promise anything,” he demanded, hand outstretched so he could flip through Gabby’s work first.
“I mean, why would I help you for no reason?” She wasn’t necessarily a helpful person, she had her own moments, but those moments certainly didn’t happen around Brandon, not after how they broke things off. She clutched her bag tighter, in case he grabbed her notes. Lips pursed together, she handed him a page, only one of course, withholding the rest of them. “You already know how organized I am. You are just wasting our time here.”
“Exhibitionism is all the rage,” Tiva said with the raise of one shoulder, the casual movement accompanying her pulling her top back on over her head, considering the brunette standing in front of her for a moment. “Besides, not everyone is as…puritanical as Americans,” she pointed out. “We’re all in a study abroad program, live like the locals do. Or whatever,” she added, though if Tiva was honest, she wasn’t quite sure if the lackadaisical attitude to topless beaches in Europe extended to South Africa or not.
“That’s something I am certainly not into,” she shrugged as well, looking away. “I am far from being a prude, but that does not mean I want to watch people humping each other.” Gabby was a private person, she was all about keeping everything behind closed doors. “There are other ways to live like the locals do, but you do you.”
location: outside the dorms.

“thanks for helping me with my bags.” Andromeda smiled as the person grabbed another suitcase. She’d left without a word to anyone a month to go handle some stuff with her aunt. She done what she could online to keep up with class work and part of her even considered not coming back after all the chaos with the unhinged had happened. But at the end of the day not even an ivy league could give her the opportunities a Luxor degree could. so here she was back again.
“Oh, you are alive!” Gabriela said teasingly as she walked towards the other brunette, taking off her Versace sunglasses. “Here I was thinking you left us for good,” she grabbed one of Andromeda’s suitcase. “But I am glad you are back,” she said, smiling momentarily.
Marcello blinked slowly, not necessarily unaccustomed to being disliked but never in such a blatantly spiteful yet ladylike manner. “I would be concerned if it did hold significance,” he said in a level tone, his eyebrow raised at her snide behavior. He didn’t expect to matter to Gabby, and he much preferred being left alone anyway. “If I remember correctly, you never made much of an attempt to tolerate me in the first place,” Marcello said with a small shrug.
“That’s because I never trusted you,” she told dryly, shrugging her shoulders. “You and Madeleine brought the worst out of each other.” Well, considering Maddie’s other relationship, it seemed like she brought the worst out of anyone but after the betrayal her friend went through, it was easier to be on Maddie’s side, it made her feel morally superior. “And as if that’s not enough, you stole her best friend from her. So yeah,” she paused to mirror his small shrug. “You really didn’t give me a reason to tolerate you.”
“Right?” Her eyes were wide and serious as she leaned forward, eager to concur. “Like, haven’t we as a whole – as a society moved beyond actively choosing to rough it? I mean, there’s even genetically engineered meat substitutes now. Move on, people!” Dawn had only ever visited Los Angeles a handful of times on vacation in the last five or so years, but she still nodded along as if ‘Brentwood’ meant a thing to her. “I’m from Texas,” she admitted regretfully, slipping in the tiny white lie, “Houston, to be exact. And before you even ask; yes, it does suck.”
“I will never understand this obsession with the past. The only way is to move forward, there’s nothing cool about regressing.” Gabby never looked back, the past was the past for a reason. “Texas?” The condescending tone in her voice was evident, she didn’t even bother to hide despite liking Dawn. “I can only imagine,” she said dryly, pursing her lips in distaste. “I have met a girl once,” Gabriela started, tucking her hair behind her ear. “She was from Dallas and it totally showed.”
“Oh, I’ve heard it before,” Marcello confirmed coolly, giving a small nod of his head. He’d always tolerated Gabby’s presence, and he hadn’t missed the attitude shift after he’d gotten involved with Sav. Still, the brunette held little to no influence over his decision-making, and he’d assumed she’d be over it by now. “But your opinion of me doesn’t hold any significance,” he explained firmly, like his logic was flawless. “We can agree on this atrocity, though,” Marcello said with a sigh and placed the planner back.
“I figured,” Gabby said dryly, pursing her lips together. “I guess that’s only fair, since your existence as a whole doesn’t hold any significance in my life.” Maddie did a handful of mistakes in her relationship, but this wasn’t about who was right or wrong, Madeleine was her friend, of course she was going to take her side. “It’s nice that we don’t have to tolerate each other anymore.”
“You should know it’s hard to get over me. Is your friend tall, hot and blonde?” Hunter continued to tease her with a half-smirk, standing in front of the girl before glancing at his teammates for a moment to check who she was waiting for. “Who is it?”
“Is it really? I had no idea,” Gabby responded dryly, not necessarily amused. “She’s not blonde,” she added, adjusting her watch’s strap. “Her name is Alaska. And I am certainly not gonna introduce any of my friends to you.”
“Does it matter how I got here? Or is that you actually showing an interest,” he enquired, eyebrow raising. “If your burning desire to know must be satisfied, it was just a spot of graffiti. I think the janitor referred to it as disgusting immature vandalism, but I for one think I’m merely being penalised for artistic expression. Nobody minds when it’s Banksy. Double standards.”
“Just trying to understand the situation.” So, maybe you could say she was actually showing an interest. “People actually do mind when Banksy does it, too. They just can’t catch him. With Banksy, it’s all about political activism aspect behind his graffitis,” Gabby said with a shrug. “So totally, not the same thing.”

at the south africa campus hot springs
Tiva was splashing her feet into the hot springs, the perfect little spot for a low-key rendezvous with someone, which (as a matter of fact) was exactly why she was there. She had already discarded her bikini top when she heard footsteps, turning her head over one shoulder to offer a greeting …. “Oh, fuck,” Tiva drawled when she realized it was not who she had been waiting for, her demeanor staying considerably casual. “My bad,” she added, only amusement evident in her voice as she grabbed her bikini top to pull back on.
“Oh my God,” Gabby almost shrieked, covering her eyes immediately as soon as she’d realized she was somewhere she wasn’t supposed to be at. How many times she was going to be in this exact situation? This was probably the third time in this week she either accidentally walked in on some people or saw someone naked. “Is everyone having sex outside nowadays? What happened to the dorm rooms?”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re practically in my head, right?” He said it sarcastically, but there was a grain of truth there. Excluding his brother (a pastime that Brandon greatly enjoyed), Gabby was the one person that he’d known for the longest at Luxor. Their families were interwoven, teen years overlapping, and if asked to do nothing more than choose a number between one and a hundred, he wouldn’t have been surprised if they blurted out the same digit. It was annoying, really, especially when they were two people with very different wants and opposing communication styles. “Don’t do that,” Brandon started with a mock pout, “you’re too hot to die.” He flashed a smile then, halfway reclining on the bed with his arms braced behind himself. Nodding at Gabby’s bag, he asked, “Did you copy last week’s notes for me?”
“I know I am.” She would never know whether that was the truth or she was simply being delusional, but Gabby preferred to believe that was the case. Brando has always been in her life — whether she liked it or not — her social circles were tangled, she couldn’t avoid him even when she wanted to. Her brow raised at him, skillfully managing to hide her smirk, she let out a short sigh. She hated seeing him smile, it humanized him and that was the last thing she wanted. Because if she stopped focusing on her hatred towards him, then she would have to face the fact she was actually missing him.
And that was the only luxury she didn’t want to afford.
“Not for you,” she said quickly. “I did it for myself. But I am feeling generous enough to share,” she reached for her bag. “Just keep in mind once you get these notes, you will owe me a favor or two.”
Hunter was checking his phone after finishing the soccer practice, checking out the texts and what his friends were up to, perhaps finding something fun to do with one of them instead of staying in the dorm. When the blonde moved his eyes away from the screen, he saw someone standing there. “So you’re into soccer? Or is there another reason for you to be here during practice? I know that seeing me is a great one.”
“God, no.” Gabriela was too quick to respond, as if she was accused of something terrible. She didn’t harbor a special kind of hatred towards the sports, she just didn’t care for them. “You need to get over yourself, Hunter,” she snorted a laugh, shaking her head slowly. “I was waiting for my friend.”
She rolled her eyes, completely on the same page as Gabriela. “It’s even worse when people say they want to try out farm life. So, you want to live in nature… but with a bunch of smelly animals and even more responsibilities? Yuck. Go watch Brokeback Mountain or something.” Dawn had lived on the border of the sticks once before, surrounded by cattle ranch after cattle ranch, and she was never going back. She shook her head while interjecting, “I’ve tried out surfing before. But you’re from California? That must be so cool.”
Gabby made gagging voice, she didn’t even care she looked ridiculous while doing it, that’s how strong her reaction to anything farm related. “Do not,” she raised her hand, shaking her head in disapproval. “I want to yell whenever someone says they want to live in a cabin or milk cows for fun. Like, yeah, some people live like that but usually, it’s not their choice, they don’t have other options but who the fuck would you live like that willingly?” It was beyond her imagination. “Yeah, I was born and raised in LA. Brentwood, to be exact,” she said. “Where are you from?”
“Well good…” She thought. It wasn’t exactly clear if she was supposed to take that as she actually looked good or if it just was merely better than what the other viewed the fashion choices of those in Euphoria as. She was leaning towards the latter. “Depop. Noted.” Bria nodded, “Where do you do most your shopping?”
“Thrifting would be a good option if we still were in the States.” She didn’t need to shop from thrift stores, but Gabriela was a sucker for unique pieces, and you really couldn’t get those from Saks. “Depends on my mood, really. Usually Saks because it’s very convenient. I love What Goes Around Comes Around the most. Sucks that we don’t have any decent designer vintage stores around here.”
“Yeah?” He glanced over at the spot she pointed to, expression one of total indifference, before glancing back. “Oh yeah,” Jack said in a monotone. “I did. My bad.” Rather than bother to go and mop it up, he continued to lazily drag the mop back and forth with no attempt to actually clean anything.
Gabriela looked at Jack, arms crossed against her chest. She didn’t really care whether he cleaned the spot or not, it wasn’t her problem. “How the hell did you end up getting detention, anyway? That’s so high school.”
“Maybe it’s weird but sometimes I wish my mom wouldn’t. Sugarcoating isn’t my thing and she’s good at it– with me, anyway. Not so much with the rest of the world,” she said with a laugh. “Oh really? That’s cool, I guess, but can’t blame you for not wanting to follow in her footsteps. Literally get no privacy. Ever. Sounds like a nightmare.” Sure, she loved attention, but not to the level of wanting to be a celebrity. “Yeah, no, I get it. I don’t really have respect for those kinds of people either. If they can’t get there themselves, they clearly aren’t even qualified to be in the positions that are handed to them anyway.”
“The privacy thing is the worst.” Not to mention all those shallow conversations with so many airheads. “But if you really want to avoid the attention, you find a way to do it.” She has seen so much in the industry, half of the time people loved pretending like they were sick of paparazzi, but the reality was the opposite. “That’s exactly it. Then we end up having a bunch of incompetent people doing the jobs they are not qualified.”
