nova, born novalee ryan young, was born in new york city, new york and raised in manhattan, where she would live up until she was sent to luxor academy ( high school ) when she was fourteen
her parents were incredibly wealthy. her mother, adelaide lucinda weston, was a prosecuting attorney and her father, ryan adam young, came from old money but was also an incredibly successful businessman. they were happily married and doted on nova like she was the best thing that ever happened to them, mostly because she was. while she spent a lot of time with nannies, her parents always did their best to be there for her whenever possible and never made her feel like they didn’t love her.
while she was close with both of her parents, she was especially close to her mother and declared at the age of three that she wanted to be just like her & go into law. while her mind would change constantly, she did eventually settle on it for her major in her senior year of high school.
around the age of seven, she took up photography as an interest of hers, having always enjoyed taking pictures whenever she and her parents would travel somewhere. she was incredibly skilled with it, even talked about becoming a professional one someday, but more so it was just something that she enjoyed doing in her free time for fun.
CANCER TW DEATH TW nova’s father was diagnosed with cancer when she was nine. the doctors had caught it too late and he passed away within a year, after many failed attempts to treat it. his last days were spent with novalee and her mother on vacation in hawaii. while it still proved to be the saddest day of her life, her father wanted her to look back on those days and smile, hence why they had taken a vacation.
after her father’s death, her mother threw herself into her work, leaving nova to mostly fend for herself. of course, there was always a nanny around to look after her, but they usually left nova alone.
it wasn’t until she was twelve, going on thirteen, that her attitude seemed to do a 180. she started to act out more, get into a lot of trouble and always sneak out with her friends to do things that a thirteen year old shouldn’t have been doing. it was because of this behavior that her mother decided it would be for the best to send her to a boarding school, hoping that it would improve her behavior.
the summer before she was set to leave for luxor, her mother remarried the man that she had been dating for the past six months. with a step-father, she gained an older step-brother, neither of which she had spent much time with.
it was over summer vacations that she would get to know her new family members, who she proved to not be very fond of and much to her mother’s dismay, it only made nova grow into more of, what her step-father often referred to her as, an ungrateful brat.
after graduating from high school and despite putting in multiple applications elsewhere, nova decided to stick around luxor and is attending luxor university. though she and her mother have drifted apart somewhat, she never did quit wanting to follow in her footsteps and does still admire her more than she would ever admit aloud.
PERSONALITY:
first and foremost, nova is stubborn, often times to a fault but some of the time, it works in her favor because she refuses to give up at least 99.9% of the time. when she sets a goal for herself, she sees it through, no questions asked. fearless, recklessly so. she’s impulsive, tends to not think before she does something and is most definitely that friend the other friends have to look out for and try to talk out of doing something stupid. fiercely loyal. can’t keep a secret to save her life, but can be trusted when it pertains to her friends because she’d never stab them in the back. she’s more so the type to stab someone in the front, while looking them in the eyes. often times, she’s too honest for her own good, has quite a mouth on her that gets her into trouble more often than not. she doesn’t believe in second chances. screw her over once and that’s the only chance that you get, she’ll never trust you again. she has the tendency to be arrogant, but not to the point of being obnoxious about it-- at least, not always. withdrawn at times, likes to keep to herself part of the time but usually prefers to surround herself with people because she’s a social butterfly at heart. ( that’s all i can think of at the moment, but will add more when my brain starts working again ).

she started swimming in junior high as a hobby and continues to do so because it relaxes her

yellow is her favorite color. she usually always has something yellow on, whether it’s part of her outfit or just an accessory or the color of her manicure
she can play the piano and the guitar, but doesn’t show it off too much. music is something that is private for her and she tends to not tell many people that she even has an interest in it, despite always being the type to show off
she’s always wearing a butterfly necklace that she only takes off when she showers. it’s one that her father gave her when she was little and she’d never forgive herself if she lost it, it’s the most precious thing she owns
