Isaac: Good. I was about to text you.

Isaac: All good, in the commotion I couldn't find you. I was about to go see if you made it home.

Isaac: Everyone's fine as far as I can tell.

Gabrielle: Okay. I'm glad everyone is okay.

Gabrielle: I'm really tired, but I'll talk to you soon?

Gabrielle: I made it home safe.

Gabrielle: Did you?

Gabrielle: Did everyone else?

Gabrielle: I'm sorry I didn't find you, I just wanted to give them space and everything was such a mess. I tried to look around for you, but I couldn't see with all of the people.

Gabrielle: I hope you're okay.

The entire time he had been worried something would go wrong. Everyone had a gut feeling this wouldn’t go right and he wished that they’d had listen to their instincts. Elijah was with the rest of the pack, watching from a distance as the spell was being performed. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, he stood their in anticipating the outcome when suddenly one of the witches had dropped to the ground. The crowd went wild and he was at lost what to do. Being a pup, he felt like he wouldn’t be much help, but it was Noah up there. The two hadn’t spent a whole lot of time, but he was beginning to look up to the older wolf like a brother. 

Maneuvering thorough the crowd, he tried to get a closer look. Make sure his friend was alright, though he nearly bumped into someone. At first it hadn’t really registered that it was Gabrielle until he heard the nickname that was given to him. Twisting around, he looked her up and down. “No.” he said, running a hand through his hair. “One of my pack is in there and I don’t know what to do!” Elijah looked her over a little longer, but his attention went back to the circle.

Gabrielle moved herself around a bit so she wasn’t in his way. “Noah’s in your pack?” She asked, not that she expected much of an answer. Still, she could feel the worry and the tension the boy was feeling, like it radiated off of him and into her. She thought back to what the Fae she’d encountered only a moment before had said. “He’s safe in there. I guess the circle protects those inside of it. It’s the witches that are in potential danger, but he’ll be okay.” She tried to reassure him, moving her hand from her side and gently holding his. “The best thing we can do is give them some room. Noah will be okay, but being crowded around the witches is only going to make it harder for them to get help if they need it.” A small frown pulled at her lips, but not because she was scared, but she knew he was, for his pack mate. This was part of why Isaac hadn’t wanted her to participate. “Come on, I’ll walk with you and give you a ride home if you want. Or we can just wait off the trail until Noah get’s out.”

“I’m not jaded,” Des scoffed, crossing his arms as the girl continued to go on. Whatever deck of cards life had handed her had obviously been a rough one. The passion in her voice told Des that she had been through a lot, though he didn’t really care to know what any of that had been. “I’m going to give you a piece of advice,” he told her calmly, his eyes flitting about the crowd. “Don’t talk about things you have no knowledge about. Do I transform into a beast once a month? No. But that doesn’t mean my kind is all happy go lucky and rainbows. We all have our problems, we’ve all got our weak points. Obviously, yours are different than mine, but just because mine have forced me to see the world in a different way than you doesn’t mean they’re wrong. I’m being a realist here. If I cared about every single death, I’d be grieving for the next millennium.”

Gabrielle shook her head. She didn’t want his advice or to ever consider losing her humanity in the way she felt he had. If she didn’t care for others, for life itself, what else did she have? “You don’t have to mourn every death, or grieve them, but you are talking about them like they are flies and not people.” She was disgusted, unsure she could even talk about insects in such a way. “Maybe that’s your curse, though. You have to live forever and never care about anyone that won’t do the same, because we’ll all get old and die.” Gabby turned away from him, beginning to search for those that she knew in the crowd. “A piece of advice,” She bit back over her shoulder. “You’re going to have a lonely millennium if you don’t care. But, if it were me, the emptiness would be so much worse than the pain.” And with that, she disappeared into the crowd.

Des recognized some of the names she was throwing out there, but instead of moving him, her little show of emotion earned her an eye roll. “Don’t worry so much. The witches who aren’t participating won’t die, and the ones actually getting cured won’t either.” He wasn’t privy to all the details of the Cure, but he knew enough about magic to know who was protected in Rituals as powerful as this one. He was unconcerned about the safety of almost everyone there, and as flippant as that might’ve seemed, it was simply the result of being a person  who couldn’t die. Mortal life seemed so expendable and silly, as if it was a design flaw. “Everyone who signed up for this knew the risk. All those witches holding hands like they’re playing a game on the playground? They knew it was going to be dangerous. If they die, they chose to.”

Gabrielle shook her head, it seemed so sad to her that he cared so little. “I can’t not worry. There are lives at risk. Maybe if you understood loss,if you had to deal with it, you wouldn’t be so...so crass about it.” Arguing with him about it seemed pointless. She didn’t want to focus on him when there were more important things going on. The girl looked around him, trying to see what was happening in the circle. But as he continued to be righteous about the whole thing, she snapped her attention back to him, an annoyed look on her features. It was rare and felt foreign, but still, it rested on her face. “They’re trying to do something good! That doesn’t mean they should die for it! It doesn’t mean that because it was a known risk that it's not upsetting that it’s happening. Gosh! What on earth is wrong with you? Just because you aren’t condemned to suffer through the transformation once a month, doesn’t mean that the rest of us were spared that same fate!” She narrowed her eyes, “You seem more jaded than any one of us mortals, if I worried about someone dying, I might wonder what happened to you to make you so miserable.”

Isaac nodded knowing that she must be frightened of the fae. He wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t more around.  “He won’t.” 

He nodded lightly glad that she had a friend, and someone to stand with. He wasn’t exactly liked by many that would be here. He’d rather take that responsibility alone than drag another member down with him. 

“Don’t worry Gabby, I’m used to it by now.” He said his usual lopsided smile coming across his face. He had eyes on him since he had become the alpha, and he wasn’t exactly shy about the notoriety. He just didn’t want the other to be uncomfortable or targeted. “I hopefully haven’t offended anyone to terribly. We are here as guest after all. If you want, I can come find you after the ritual.  ”

The girl offered a forced smile, the mixture of nerves for the event and fear of the fragility of her and Isaac’s friendship weighing on her. “Okay,” She agreed, because there were more pressing things to deal with, like getting through this ritual.

Gabrielle nodded, but still frowned a bit. She felt bad that he had to bear the burden on his own, she could hardly handle being a werewolf as it was, but being an alpha was another thing entirely. Quickly, she wrapped her arms around him, giving him a supportive squeeze before pulling away shyly. “I’m sure you’ll be fine. And if you need me, I’ll be around. But, you might have to search a bit. I’m not exactly the tallest.” She joked, but smiled, “Yeah, that works.” The girl wanted to tell him that maybe they could go get that ice cream after, but she didn’t want the intake of calories, so she stayed quiet for a moment instead.

As the announcement that the ritual was about to start made way, Gabrielle smiled at him and took a step back. “I’m going to go find my friend. I’ll see you after the ritual.”

Isaac didn’t move waiting for the younger. He nodded slightly at the statement. He wasn’t one to leave a member anyway, especially if they asked for him to stay and he couldn’t help but feel a bit relieved that she didn’t want him to leave.

“You don’t need to apologize, Gabs.” He gave a small sad smile putting his hand over hers. “You’re fine. I won’t leave you. I promise you that. Just, during the ritual I no doubt will have a lot of eyes on me, so you might not want to stand next to me. If you want to you can, but just try to be safe okay?” 

Gabrielle offered him a smile in return, but still, she felt nervous, like she was going to disappoint him, somehow. The girl moved closer to him, eyeing the thickening crowd of people. “I just don’t want...” You to be angry with me, she thought, looking down at the path beneath their feet, “Him to come back,” The girl explained.

The idea of having a lot of people looking at her didn’t bode well for the girl. She shook her head, “No, that’s okay. I have a friend here that I can stand with.” The brunette explained, though, she wasn’t sure if Uriel would want her to hang around him. Still, she’d rather be alone than have a bunch of attention on her. “Are you sure, though? I don’t want you to have to deal with that on your own.”

She saw his blue eyes before anything else. The girl didn’t know why they were so striking, or why they’d stuck in her memory so sharply, but without even taking in his whole face she knew it was Osiris. Her heart fluttered a bit in her chest, the organ fighting to join the butterflies that had gathered in her stomach. Even with the chaos around her, she was a bit starstruck, but she gravitated over to him, giving him a look of concern as she reached her hand out timidly to place on his arm. “Are you okay?” She asked, wide green hues searching his face. “I-I can’t believe this is happening. I was really hoping it was going to work.” Gabrielle confessed with a sigh.

“Me? No. I’m completely serious.” Desmond wasn’t usually outwardly cruel, but he was growing tired of everyone who acted like magic was some type of novelty. There were risks involved in every cast - any idiot should’ve known that. He was beginning to wonder why exactly the Lancaster’s had broadcasted this cure to seemingly every Supernatural on the globe. “Call me all the names you want, beautiful, but you can’t change what’s happening and neither can I. It’s better to accept it right now and move on. So what if there’s not a cure? So what if a few people die? They’ll just go back to the drawing board and keep trying.”

Gabrielle didn’t know much about witches or magic, it wasn’t something her father spent much time talking about and any inquiries into the topic often led to her father being in a foul mood, because the girl had more interest in being a witch from Harry Potter than a werewolf in the real world. When he called her beautiful, despite her anger, she blushed, and made her all the more flustered. Still, her pulse quickened at the potential of no cure or death being an outcome. “Because I don’t want to be this! I didn’t ever want to be this!” She snapped at him, folding her arms over her chest, but her head fell. “I don’t want anyone to die. I know Noah and Micah, not well, but they’re both nice people and I don’t want them to die. And the redhead girl, too, I-it doesn’t matter. I don’t want anyone to die, and I care if they do! That’s what you’re supposed to do! You’re supposed to care. Everyone should care! They are lives and they aren’t just flames that should be blown out like birthday candles!” She exclaimed, feeling like she was, for the first time in her life, talking to someone that wasn’t quite human, and not by the definition of species, either. “How can you not care? How can you be okay with people dying?”

Gabrielle moved around the circle, unsure of what to do as everything seemed to fall apart with the cure. She was panicking and felt helpless about the whole thing. After she’d learned in an unsavory way that she couldn’t do anything but stay back, the brunette couldn’t help but move around the circle, nervous and unfocused. Her natural response was flight, but she knew it wasn’t appropriate in the given situation, so she settled for the unnerved pacing.

The girl was so distracted she almost ran into a familiar figure. Elijah. She took in his features, but couldn’t muster up a smile. “Lij, are you okay?” She asked, and this time, it wasn’t because of almost running into him like it would have been if the situation had happened at another place or time. Something deep inside of her needed someone else to focus on, or take care of so she didn’t have to think of what this meant for someone like her if the cure was unsuccessful.

“We can’t help,” Des said matter-of-factly, still only half paying attention to the ritual happening. Everyone around them seemed to be erupting into a panicked mob, but he knew that would do no good. “If you break the circle, we’ll get hurt. You mortal ones might die. I guess that’s one way to get rid of the Cursed problem, right?”

Gabrielle looked at the man in complete disgust. She was on edge with the chaos around them, but also at crumbling hope of this cure, as the ritual seemed to take a turn for the worst. “Are you kidding right now?” The girl was not confrontational, she never had been. She was much more the type to run off and cry, but there was something in her blood, something that the wolf inside of her left behind after her first transformation and that part was angry. “Someone is hurt, others are, like, trapped, or something in that circle, and there might not be a cure, yet, you have the audacity to joke about people dying?” There was disbelief in her eyes, “You’re repulsive.”

The ritual seemed to be going alright, as far as the werewolf girl could tell from her spot in the middle of the crowd. It was times like this when she wished she was still a child that could be hoisted onto her father’s shoulders too get a better look at things, but alas, she was not and had to stand on her tiptoes and crane her neck to get a better view when those around her shifted.

So, when one of the witches disappeared from her sight and people began to move around uneasily, she searched for the man she’d met the day of the full moon. She only managed a glimpse before her attention was directed to the chaos around the circle and around her. “What’s going on?” She asked nervously to anyone that might be around her, and her eyes landed on the witch that had lost consciousness. “Something’s wrong.” Her tone was urgent and she pushed through the crowd, wanting to help, but one of the witches kept her away from the circle. Her instincts got the better of her and she struggled. “No, something’s happening! Someone needs to help them! There are people in there!”

“Who’s to say that this Cure will even work?” Hunter spoke softly, her nerves starting to get the best of her. All day she had felt uneasy and it wasn’t even her coven performing the ritual. “Magic is incredibly unpredictable and if just one thing goes wrong tonight, even by accident, who knows what could happen.” The witch didn’t know the girl she was speaking to or whether the stranger was for or against the Cure. Still, she felt the urge to lay all of her worries out for someone to hear. “Do you think it’ll work or am I just being silly?”

Gabrielle listened to the other girl as she spoke, assuming she was a witch because she seemed to know about magic. Honestly, the girl was unsure about the cure and how, or if, it would work. But, still, she wanted it to, and not just for her, but for Noah, who she’d only met the once, but he seemed to want it as badly as she did, and he was meant to receive the cure that night. “I don’t know.” The werewolf girl told the other. “I don’t know much about magic, but I’m hopeful. And the people that are trying it out are hopeful as well. Sometimes I like to think that hope is it’s own kind of magic.”

Uriel was spreading delight angst in his general pessimistic cloud. He hated the talk of a cure, because it gave people hope. Hope starved him of the uncertainty and fear people had that came with their condition. Though he didn’t feed on supernatural, he still found the troubled emotions entertaining. He had disconnected slightly from the people he had bothered earlier. 

He also tried not to think of how much of a chain smoker he was today. It helped him deal with people. Uriel was about to take another drag of the cigarette before he caught sight of someone familiar. The tobacco stick fell from his surprised open mouth when his vehement gaze fell upon Gabrielle.

The condition he found her in at her apartment now made sense, but this meant one final thing to Uriel. She had lied to him. He puts out the cigarette no longer feeling the crave to amuse him, as he pushed through the crowd towards her with an intense glare.

Gabrielle turned towards the voice calling her name and when her eyes landed on the familiar head of red hair and blue eyes, she froze. Her mouth hung open in a shocked ‘o’ shape, her eyes widening at him. It took her a moment to come to grips with what was going on, but when she did, the first thing she could manage out of her mouth was his name. 

“Uri?” She questioned in disbelief. Then the guilt crashed over her. His glare was harsh and instantly she knew that he now knew she’d been lying to him about what had happened the night of the full moon. It wasn’t that she’d had any choice in the matter, she’d believed he was human and telling a human about the existence of werewolves was illegal. “I’m sorry,” Gabby whispered, wide green eyes looking up at him, gently begging to be forgiven.

“I-I didn’t know you were...” She started, but she still didn’t know what the older boy was. Was he a witch or a fae? She couldn’t tell and didn’t think that asking in that moment was a good idea. “I thought you were a human. That’s why I lied after the full moon. I was scared, but I couldn’t tell you the truth because it’s against the law.” She looked down, nervously wringing her hands together. “I’ve only turned a few times. My father, he...” Her teeth found her bottom lip before she shook her head. “It was my first time transforming alone and in the city, and I was just so angry and scared that I-I...When I woke up I didn’t know who else to go to.” She reached toward his forearm, but didn’t touch him. Gabrielle took a breath and looked up at him pleadingly. “Please don’t hate me, Uriel. I don’t want to lose you.”

“Well, well,” Delphine tutted, watching the excited rumblings of the gathering crowd as she fished a tiny flask from her clutch and took a sip. “I don’t know if I could make it through all this excitement without a drink. I wonder if it’ll work… Want a sip?” She offered the bourbon-filled flask to the nearest person, giving it a little wiggle.

Gabrielle had a hard time refusing people, and, frankly, she enjoyed how the alcohol made her feel. So, for the second time that night she took a drink from a stranger, “Thanks.” She smiled before lifting the flask to her lips and took a quick, large gulp of it. It was too hideous tasting to drink slowly. Honestly, it was so nasty that she spluttered and coughed into her free elbow, offering the flask back to the woman with her other had. “Do you think that this will go well? The ritual, I mean?” She asked after she’d finished choking on the alcohol.

Rowan chuckled softly at the mental image forming in his head of a bunch of stereotypical supernatural creatures circled around a table drinking tea and eating crumpets. Werewolves with cut off jean shorts, vampires with Dracula voices, and witches with pointy hats. “That sounds loads better,” he agreed with a broad grin. Her words had actually alleviated some of his anxiety and nocked the tension in the air down a few degrees. 

The girl smiled widely at him, happy to at least make things a bit better for him. “Maybe next time we’ll have to suggest it.” She shrugged playfully, giggling at her own words. Curiously, she looked at him and cocked her head to the side. “I’m not sure if it’s rude to ask or not, and if it is, you don’t have to answer, but are you a witch, or a faerie? Not that it matters, I’m just curious, because neither have a distinctive scent like us wolves and the vampires do. And I don’t really have a lot of experience with witches and fae. And do male witches prefer to be called witches? Or is it like in Harry Potter where they like to be called Wizards? Or in other fairytales where they are called warlocks? My father never really got much into the details about these things, and there aren’t any books that actually are...you know, accurate.” She rambled on, giving him a guilty look. “Sorry, I sometimes talk a lot when I’m nervous.”
