Have you ever noticed reading Queen of Air and Darkness that the first half of the book is just groups of characters going into Faerie on rescue missions. Like Emma and Julian are going in for the Book and hopefully Clary and Jace, Mark, Cristina and Kieran are going for Emma and Julian. And then Mark and Kieran get taken so Cristina goes to Adaon for help, and finally Diana send Gwyn after Emma and Julian when she finds out what is really happening. It’s just like 400 pages of different Faerie missions and then it cuts to Ty and Kit casually doing necromancy. Like literally what the fuck!

Reading the last chapter of Lady Midnight is so funny because everybody is having such a shit time, like Kit watches his dad get ripped apart by demons and learns he’s a Shadowhunter, Mark accidentally goes off on Ty because he got freaked out by responsibilities, and Emma is knowingly breaking Julian’s heart to protect him and his family from the Parabatai curse, and then you just have Cristina and Diego fucking making out in her room, they are literally so into it that they didn’t realize Mark walk into the room and walk back out with heartbroken eyes. It’s just like 30 pages of chaos and you never know where it’s going lol.

Rereading Lady Midnight for the thousandth time and realizing that Julian only has a sibling like relationship with Mark with the banter and arguments and that he can’t have that type of relationship with his other siblings because he raised them. Why do I enjoy hurting myself like this?

You ever notice that throughout each Shadowhunter chronicle series, in the first book they respect the clave and abide by the rules and the en throughout the series it’s like a downward spiral and by the end the main characters don’t give a fuck. Like in TMI in City of Bones Jace, Isabelle, and Alec are all rule abiding Shadowhunters and in each book they just slowly start to lose respect for the clave until you get to City of Heavenly Fire where they fully fucked off to a hell dimension without permission because they didn’t care about the clave. And in TID in Clockwork Angel Charlotte especially is like all about following the rules and making sure her Shadowhunter charges follow them too, but by the end of Clockwork Princess she totally defied the Consul and led an unsanctioned mission that saved the world. In TLH the characters follow the rules at the beginning because Charlotte in Consul and nothing bad is happening with demons and the Carstairs family want to keep up appearances because of Elias but by the end of the series Cordelia and Lucie are going to Edom on a rescue mission and the rest of the mains are staying in London against orders to save the world because who else is going to do it. Honestly I think that TDA might be the only series where the characters don’t have any respect for the clave because of what happened to their family in COHF and I don’t blame them. Like the Blackthorns and Emma don’t care about rules and the clave and Cristina just goes along with it because why not. I just think it’s beautiful that by the end of each series they have zero respect for their government until Alec became Consul and then they were like okay this is cool.

I’m doing my annual Shadowhunter Chronicles reread in chronological order (which is a trip going from tlh to tmi lol) but I’ve made it all the way to City of Lost Souls without making a tumblr post which is crazy but I have to talk about how much I love the growth in Isabelle and Clary’s friendship over the two weeks after City of Fallen Angels because I just love it so much and City of Lost Souls is my like my favorite book in tmi! Anyway wish me luck because this book is insane.

isn't it kind of crazy to think that the two things that made simon insanely powerful in tmi (the mark of cain and his being a daylighter) are given to him through clary and jace's added angel blood respectively. like obviously jace & clary are fundamentally linked because they're both the same experiment but simon, i would argue, is just as intrinsically linked to both them as they are to each other, because the exact same thing that sets jace & clary apart from other shadowhunters is the thing that sets simon apart from other vampires. and then simon allows an angel to take clary's gift to save jace and then he allows a demon to take his vampirism, and along with that, jace's gift, to save them all.

I’ve always imagined that Simon is just as important in TMI as Clary and Jace. The three of them are the main characters. Simon has just as many point of view chapters as Jace or possibly even more. I do like how Cassie wrote the three of them so linked together because it added to the story especially in City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, and City of Lost Souls where Simon’s bond with Jace and Clary repectively are showcased a lot.

Rereading Lord of Shadows for the first time in like 3 years and forgot how fucking precious Mark and Emma’s friendship is in the beginning of this book. I also live how both Julian and Mark were ready to throw hands with Diego for hurting Cristina. They all care about each other so much even though it’s only been like a month at most and it makes me so happy to read about their friendships.

Rereading City of Glass for funsies and just finished Part Two and let me tell you, I’m happy that Clary got her chance to tell Jocelyn how it is. I’d be pissed too. Just the fact that she left Clary so unprepared but had a plan to make herself go to sleep just in case. It’s like she didn’t put any thought into what would happen to Clary once Valentine got a hold of her. Clary deserves to be pissed off and she didn’t tell Jocelyn off just because she’s an angsty teenager, she did it because Jocelyn put herself to sleep with no regard of how Clary was going to live at 15 years old in the middle of New York City with not only her sight returning but also knowing that Luke wouldn’t be able to take care of her because he’s the first person Valentine would go after, after he got Jocelyn. Just makes me mad and Clary deserves to be bitter because you can defend Jocelyn by saying “she’s just trying to protect Clary” but that’s not the whole truth. She just wanted a normal life and had no qualms about how it would affect her daughter who’s blood is infused with angel blood and proceeded to take her memories of everything that made Clary a Shadowhunter away from her, leaving her untrained and alone with her sight coming back stronger than ever and her sociopathic father after something that only Clary had the means of collecting. Sorry if this was long, it just makes me so mad and it’s hard for me to enjoy the first few books of Jocelyn content.

I like how the Lost trío are so done with Hera by the end of The Lost Hero. Jason’s like “the only reason I’m here is for my memories you messed up bitch.” Leo’s been groomed by her and is so sick of her shit he’s calling her “lady” instead of her name and he’s like “this bitch tortured me during childhood, I couldn’t care less if she lived.” And Piper is legit ignoring her while Hera is trying to tell her that she can’t revive Jason “ she’s like don’t tell me what to do” and then literally defies the laws and brings him back using charm speak, girl literally said “wake up” and brought him back. They live to defy Hera and I’m living for it.

I just started my reread of Heroes of Olympus, and I don’t get why people hate Jason so much. His thoughts are so funny. He’s like “how the hell did I manage to land this beautiful girl” and it’s not even rhetorical, he literally doesn’t remember shit. He’s like “am I really friends with this crazy small guy” it’s so hilarious. He’s just freaking out and I love him for that.
