How to be a Femme Fatale:
Firstly, what is a femme fatale? A femme fatale, meaning ‘fatal woman’, is a woman who use her feminine charms and mysterious allure to draw people in. Sometimes referred to as “the kind of woman men want, but shouldn’t have” 😉
A person who wants to become a femme fatale should first ask themselves - what do I want from life? Am I confident enough to enter a lounge full of people staring at me, and waltz right up to the bartender and order a “Whiskey on rocks” without falling over and embarrassing myself?
See, femme fatales, are the original “city girls”. Confident, strong minded, know what they want and are not willing to compromise. The biggest difference being the crowds each group entertain and surround themselves with. As a femme fatale you would gravitate to the more subtle, “old wealth” crowd - city girls fit the more boisterous 21st century style.
If you feel you identify more with the femme fatale type of woman then keep on reading...
1. The style of a Femme Fatale
Think Audrey Hepburn meets Diahann Carroll meets Poison Ivy meets Naomi Campbell. Do you see what I’m saying? I’m saying:
Long silk gowns with a slit
Dark colours (black, emerald green, maroon)
Clothes that are not too revealing but leave things up to the imagination.
Do you get the gist of it? If not here are some images that perfectly encapsulates the style of a femme fatale, from head to toe:
2. The Behaviour of a Femme Fatale
The main reason a femme fatale is so alluring is because of her charm and ability to draw in people within a minute of talking to her or even just observing her.
Let us tackle non-verbal communication first:
Hold your glass or phone with a subtle touch
Move slowly and with purpose
Sway your hips when you walk
Now, verbal communication:
Talk in a lower voice and speak slowly
Don’t say a lot - make sure not a word is wasted so that when you speak people listen
Don’t be afraid to express your opinion
Be well versed in many areas of life, media, politics...even sports
Don’t open up too fast - let the people you’re talking to always be more and more curious about you
Be well spoken, eloquent and humble when you speak. People should be worried if you’re way above their league - even if you’re from a working class background
Listen to the likes of Scarlett Johansson or Joan Crawford as examples
Have a quick wit and good sense of humour
3. The Lifestyle of a Femme Fatale
Visit mysterious places (NOT shady places - note the difference). Like a dark expensive lounge bar, or an underground art exhibit.
Have a signature drink e.g. whiskey on the rocks or a glass of Merlot - it makes you stand out
Don’t be too highkey e.g. always posting on Instagram or Twitter
Be intelligent and have great ambitions
Always walk around with an air of self-assurance and confidence
Afternoon teas are a must
Be a lady - treats others around with care and respect
Don’t let a man determine your value (in pop culture terms have the self-confidence and self-assurance of a Meg Thee Stallion but channel it like a Naomi Campbell)
This is not a perfect guide as I am still working on myself as a Femme Fatale however I began chanelling this energy since August and not only had my attention from men increased (in quantity and quality) but my feelings of self worth have skyrocketed. I’ll keep you up to date on my escapades/adventures as a Femme Fatale.
