Arms crossed, gaze fixated on the woman who she now recognized as ‘Jupiter’, Anya smiles yet again, this time taking a few steps back. Perhaps she’s heard about this woman somewhere… hadn’t she been on the news someday for being involved with those criminals from Team Galactic? Was she really speaking to a former criminal?
“Wait, your name’s Jupiter? Are you… are you, by any chance, the ex-administrator Jupiter from Team Galactic? In case you’re okay with me asking about such a thing, that is.”
Furrowing her eyebrows and with eyes widened in surprise, the researcher crosses her arms, rubbing her forehead in slight nervousness. This one wasn’t out to get innocents like the grunts and executives from Team Rocket, that’s for sure. She had barely even gotten in trouble with the Sinnohian criminals, so it was okay. Plus, since the purple-haired woman was working at this cozy restaurant in Valor Lakefront, it was because her morals and principals had, most likely, changed. The places there were selective with their employees.
“Well, well, don’t worry too much about it. Regardless of all that shit, my name is Anya. Pleased to meet you.”
Says the brunette, a light sigh making its way out of her lips. There was something etched on the other’s expression, and it left her puzzled. Perhaps it was aprehension, or something such as that. You never know.
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– While her expression is unchanging, violet eyes do indeed momentarily widen at the mention of Team Galactic. Was she really that recognizable? Perhaps she should invest in a change of alias. After all, Jupiter was the woman that slept in the beds of strangers to collect their money. The woman that had assisted Cyrus in his dictator-like desire to create a new world. Jupiter was who had allowed herself to be tempted into false promises and lies-- all fabricated by a man she had hardly knew. Jupiter was gone and dead.
Jupiter was no more.
But despite this, she would never allow herself to be called ‘Lilac’. She was also someone different-- a shell of her past that was long and forgotten.
A grin played on Jupiter’s lips. “Well, seems like I’ve got quite the reputation. I’m not sure if I should feel flattered.” At least this girl wasn’t prying, or shooting icy glares in her direction upon learning of her past affiliations.
“Anya.” She tested the name on her tongue. “What a pretty name. Is there something you need?” The sort of name you’d find time and time again in a novel, though never in real life. It was almost refreshing to come across one with such a name.

: ⁅ ☣ ⁆ : – Sinnoh, one of the colder regions many would say, but it wasn’t like it truly mattered to the parasite at all. However, what did matter was this person in front of him…and just how weird her get up was…was it some sort of suit that kept them warm? He poked the shoulder of the suit, trying to understand what the heck it was.
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– Being poked by strangers was quite the rare occurrence. Not many dared to approach one of Team Galactic’s region-renown commanders, especially Jupiter. So the sudden intrusion of her personal space seized her previous thoughts and drew her attention to the other, caught a bit off guard.
A hard, violet and cold glare settles itself on the one afore her. Head tilting slightly sideways, the commander immediately began to size up the other, gaze shifting from eyes, to apparel, to length of legs. Purple lipstick moves in unison with her mouth.
--”Is there something you need?”
“Here, let me help you out…” Briefly taking Jupiter’s controller, Winona decided to help her out a bit and selected Castelia Carl, whose stats she’d fully maxed out. Once that was done, it was time to pick the track, which was a painfully easy choice for Winona - UFO Encounter.
And sure enough, the two were at the starting line after a loading screen, which fortunately flashed the controls for Jupiter to digest. “Alright, you got the controls down, right? Ready… go!” And they were off just like that, Winona almost instantly collecting three boosts in a row to lead the pack.
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– Having little to no idea what was happening, the ex-commander simply proceeded to spam various buttons in curiosity of what sort of function each click was attached to. A dull expression took hold of her features as she fell into step a rather large, yet short distance ahind Winona’s choice of character. Jupiter was quite aware that her probability of losing was quite high-- but she still loathed losing.
The frown on her lips quickly morphed into a display of gritted teeth and furrowed eyebrows, a competitive rage taking wing in violet eyes. “Honestly, I have hardly an idea of what is happening.”
Still, she continued to click on before the match ended, leaving Jupiter with a slight frown and tightened grip on the controller she had been using. “This game is stupid,” she stated flatly, obviously irritated by her loss. Of course she didn’t actually mean that it was stupid, she simply did not take well to her game dignity being trampled on.
“I actually do have a Golbat! The guy’s never really had interest in evolving, however… guess he likes that gaping maw of his.” Soon enough, the PS2 booted up to launch the two into Arctic Thunder, a snowmobiling game that wasn’t exactly the best, but Winona felt it had its own charm. Most of said charm came from the arcade original, but still.
As she navigated to the character select screen, the flying ace listened to Jupiter’s own little brief biography. “A restaurant, hm? To be honest, I’ve never held a job other than the ones I have now… I was a gym leader by thirteen. My mother passed down the position.” And Winona had to say, it was a bit of a shocker the former commander was her junior. “Anyway, I’m gonna play as… Randy Rancid. You?”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– “Thirteen? That’s quite impressive.” At thirteen Jupiter was hopping from residence to residence in search of basic necessities-- and occasionally having to perform a variety of things she would rather not do, but food was food, and shelter was shelter, even if both of those things were provided by loathsome people.
A confused look spread across the pallor of her face as Winona named someone she had never heard of before. Perhaps it was simply a game that was not available during her times in Team Galactic. “Randy who?” A small chuckle. “I’m afraid you’ll have to teach me.”
“Consider yourself lucky, I’ve been arrested before, and it was a pain to break out.”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– “ Oooooh, you broke out? Do tell how. ”
“ The police don’t need’ta be working too hard when I’m around. “
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– “ Sorry, kid, beating me in battle isn’t a substitute for arresting me. ”
// LMS IF YOU WANT a starter or something
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– “ Sinnoh’s cops really do not do their job correctly... The fact they I have yet to be tracked down really shows a lot. ”
And in return, similar sarcasm lit up Winona’s. “That depends. Which one do you want to get out of the way first?” A brief bout of chuckling followed; she could never really help it. “But honestly, I suppose I’d just… like to get to know you better. I brought my old PS2 with me, see? Perhaps we could play a game.” Sure enough, the black console had been temporarily hooked up to the TV.
Without actually waiting for a response, Winona walked up to the system, switched it on, and turned on the TV. She took two controllers back to the couch, placing one in the free seat meant for her… was “friend” the correct word by then? “Guess I’ll share a few facts about myself first while we wait. I’m twenty-five years old, I’m the supervisor of the Hoenn gym leaders, and I specialize in Flying-types.”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– The other’s mirrored sarcasm brings a grin to Jupiter’s lips. Upon being asked if she’d like to play Winona’s PS2 with her, the commander opened her mouth to reject, but acted against it. The last time she had played a PS2, she had played with Mars, who’s current location she now knew nothing about.
But she had to move on from it. Refusing to do things that would stem up memories of her times in Team Galactic was not going to get her anywhere, so the ex-commander sat silent as the other plugged it in without waiting for an answer.
“Flying types, hm?” A bemused smile rested on her features. “I suppose you and my Crobat would get along splendidly.” She did find it quite a shock to think that Winona was older than her, considering the gym leader looked... younger. “You’ve probably already heard a manifold of things about me, but I’m twenty-four and I now hold a job at the most irritating restaurant known to man.”
Winona never exactly said she was an angel, but… her response was good enough. “Thank you… follow me, I’ll bring you to the hotel I’m staying in.” As the flying ace began to lead Jupiter down the sidewalk, she silently hoped that she wouldn’t take that the wrong way - and the blush on her cheeks only confirmed it.
Eventually, though, they arrived at the hotel without any trouble. It was a rustic-themed place, giving the feel of a log cabin out in the Unovan wilderness. Well, with the exception of the elevators, obviously. They were on the fifth floor in no time, and after that, Winona led Jupiter to her room at the end of the hall. “So… anything you’d like to discuss?”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– An eyebrow was raised upon mention of a hotel-- to which Jupiter nearly let out a laugh. My, my. This woman surely was something.
The whole ordeal was... oddly satisfying, in a sense. Never had anyone requested to get to know Jupiter better, nor had anyone ever offered to take her to their hotel room. Her life now was certainly a change from her aforehand affiliations-- and she couldn’t quite pinpoint whether she enjoyed it or not.
Though the scales favored enjoyment above all else.
The ex-commander allowed a grin to slip into her features as the other asked her question. Casual conversations had never been her thing, nor had she ever had a casual conversation-- let alone with a gym leader. But she supposed she could think of an answer.
“Well-- first things first, I suppose.” Sarcasm lit up her eyes. “Did you bring me here to seduce me, or have a long-lived conversation about life?”
“Well… if that’s the way you see it, I guess I can’t argue with you.” Dear Rayquaza, she wanted to, but Winona felt she had no business in doing such a thing. Besides, Jupiter was right; they obviously couldn’t spend much longer chained to each other… which is when a solution, probably too obvious to come this late, popped into Winona’s mind.
There was a sudden flash, and from it materialized her Noctowl. “Noctowl, dear, would you mind using your Air Slash on these cuffs here? We… don’t exactly have a key.” Choosing not to dwell on just who his trainer was with, the owl flapped his wings forcefully to send a blade of wind towards the chain, effortlessly slicing it in two and allowing Winona and Jupiter freedom. “Perfect! Thank you, Noctowl, please return.” And just like that, he was gone as suddenly as he arrived.
Winona soon turned her attention back to Jupiter; just because they weren’t stuck together anymore didn’t mean she wanted nothing else to do with the former commander. “Listen… I’d honestly like to get to know you better.”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– Why was this gym leader so fixated on suggesting that the ex-commander was a good person, despite everything she’d done? Why did she care? Jupiter was a criminal. A no good criminal, as most would put it. Once a criminal, always a criminal.
But, naturally, Jupiter did mind. But would never admit to such. She could hardly imagine a life separate from such-- she simply didn’t know any other way to live.
Winona’s desire to get to know Jupiter better quite took the ex-commander by surprise. She wanted to get to know her--? One of the three commanders who’d dedicate their loyalty to a man who dreamed, and almost succeeded, in creating an entirely different world? Even knowing that Jupiter was prepared to stay by his side until the end?
My, what a weird woman.
“I think you’ll find that you’ll be quite disappointed. I’m not the angel you make me out to be, gym leader.” But yet... Jupiter couldn’t help but desire what Winona had took to words. Someone legitimately cared enough to want to get to know her. The last time anyone cared like such was when she had first been introduced to Cyrus. And even then, it was only to use her as his pawn. “But do as you wish.”
Maybe all Jupiter really needed was a friend.
// so we lost our internet because we didnt have the money to pay the bill. i’m on my phone atm, but my data is limited and shit. idk when we’ll be able to pay the bill but I guess I have to go on a hiatus for now ffghshd iM sorry. im really disappointed but as soon as it comes back i’ll get replies done asap, i’ll type them in wordpad or something. The researcher stares curiously at the violet-haired figure looking out the window, eyes looking up and down on her as she quickly trying to notice every detail of the anonymous presence.
❝Oh, hello. Sinnoh sure is wonderful, isn’t it? Valor Lakefront, though… it has a special beauty to it. A wonderful place to observe, really. ❞
The brunette’s lips curve into a smile as soon as the scenery behind the woman is noticed. Maybe she had already seen her somewhere, but where? Perhaps it was just an impression, though. You can meet a lot of people after so many years of travelling around regions.
❝Why are you going already? Keep looking, it’s soothing.❞
This was one of the reasons Anya loved Sinnoh so much. The restaurants, the sights, the people… however, this was an occasional moment at which she could probably enjoy almost all at once.
❝In case you actually decide to go, may I ask you something?❞
❝May I have your name, miss?❞
The young woman’s gaze now is completely fixed on the ex-commander. Perhaps she could at least get this one thing out of her.
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– An eyebrow raised in question as the other proceeded to question Jupiter, purple gaze mirroring hers to fixate on the other woman. It wasn’t quite often nowadays that others seemed interested in Jupiter, taking into consideration that she was nothing more than a waitress. She wasn’t used to such inquiries these days. The only sort of question she had others ask was normally just a “So what’s the special?” to the ex-commander’s irritation.
The special was right on the front of the menu. Get with the program.
She eyed the other woman carefully just as she eyed her, eyes scanning any sort of details that could be picked up. After an extended pause, the purple-haired woman spoke. “...Jupiter.” It wasn’t uncommon for Jupiter to give her alias to others. She could hardly imagine going as Lilac.
Far too delicate of a name for someone who’d assisted in nearly creating an entirely different world.
Now it was her turn.
“And yours?” Jupiter questioned, gaze still yet fixated on her. She still wasn’t quite sure why the other woman seemed interested in her enough to desire her name. Perhaps the ex-commander was appearing more approachable now that she dressed as a normal civilian.
“No. No, you don’t.” Perhaps due to her position as supervisor combined with past experiences, Winona had managed to teach herself to see straight through a lie, and the ingenune smirk on Jupiter’s face made it perfectly clear. It actually upset the flying ace a bit; why did she feel the need to lie about this?
As the two continued their search for some sort of locksmith, Winona continued to speak. “Jupiter, you’re not a bad person… sure, you’ve done things in the past, but… that’s what it is. The past. You’ve abandoned that lifestyle, haven’t you? Then… the way I see it, there’s no purpose in dwelling on it any longer. What you need to do is move forward, accept your mistakes, and work to become a better person.”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– Her violet eyes swept sideways to avoid the other’s gaze. How had she seen straight through her? Perhaps Jupiter’s lying was out of practice, considering how long it had been since she last suited a commander’s uniform. Nonetheless, it was like this woman could read her feelings.
Had she become that transparent?
How pathetic, for an ex-commander to appear so open about her inner wishes and desires. Weak.
As Cyrus would say.
“Listen, doll. Just because I’ve owned up to being a criminal doesn’t mean I’m a good person. I’m a criminal. I steal, I hurt, and I don’t care. I’ve lived this way my entire life.” A slight grimace sported her features. “But if you want to see me as a good person, go on ahead. I cant just...” Her voice momentarily went quiet as she paused between her sentences. “...Move on.”
Another pause. “Why don’t we focus more on trying to get outta this damn cuff?” No, she didn’t want to be weak. She refused to be weak. Never again.
“I’m certain someone has the tools to get us free,” she reassured with a gentle smile. “After all, this is quite the industrial city. Perhaps if we go down to the rail yard, we’ll find someone.” And so, Winona began to head off, gesturing for Jupiter to walk in time with her - they didn’t need one of them going too quick and dragging the other along.
Of course she knew who Jupiter was - how could she not after that whole debacle? Asking for an introduction was merely a formality. “You know, Jupiter, I believe that as long as you’ve owned up to your past actions and changed your ways, you shouldn’t be held accountable based just on who you are. I’m pretty sure that cop knew it wasn’t you… doesn’t explain why he cuffed me, though.” Maybe it was because tree-hugging liberal hippies weren’t welcome in this part of Unova.
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– The young woman blankly blinked in surprise. She had certainly not expected anyone, let alone a gym leader, to speak such words to her. While she had already recognized that her past affected many, many others in negative ways, her morals failed to allow her to verbally admit such. To her, physically identifying her position as commander as wrong made her weak.
Even if she regretted ever joining Cyrus in his offer, even if she’d already owned up to herself in her mind, she couldn’t help but wish she had remained ignorant of her former boss and his true intentions. For the first time in quite a while, she was able to pinpoint that she had done something wrong.
And the gym leader cuffed to her recognized that-- and seemed to forgive her for it.
At first, no words fell out. She knew she should be saying thank you, considering she was indeed grateful, but embarrassment flooded over her gratitude. “Who I am is a criminal-- my past only enforces that title.” A pause. “And I adore that lifestyle, gym leader,” she lied, attempting to lay a half-hearted smirk on her lips.
“
Naturally, Winona’s free hand soon covered her face. “I knew Unovan police were clueless from what Roxie told me, but… wow. I’m literally at a loss for words.” She was a gym leader, for Rayquaza’s sake, and a rather well-known one at that. And yet, here was this hick cop who probably couldn’t tell a donut from Saturn’s rings confusing her for a criminal.
And now he - and the key to the handcuffs - were long gone, leaving Winona and Jupiter in the middle of bumfuck nowh- [ahem] Anville with their wrists bound to each other.
“I can’t fucking believe this,” she muttered under her breath, tugging at the cold metal cuffs fruitlessly. “I guess we’re going to have to pay a visit to someone who can break these. Anyway… I’m Winona, leader of the Fortree Gym. You?”
[ ღ ☾ ] ——– “Jupiter,” the ex-commander replied, bringing their locked hands upwards to inspect the cuffs. Upon realizing there would be no way of picking it, she let out a sigh. “Of course. I suppose this is just karma.”
She thought her wrongdoings had already been paid for-- but this? Cuffed to a woman she hardly knew? Perhaps the karma gods, or whatever was getting a laugh out of this, had gone too far.
Purple eyes rested on the woman aside her. “You’re a gym leader? Do you happen to have any connections with someone that would... get us out of this?” She gestured towards the item keeping them hostage. “I’m afraid I’d be most unwelcome, should I be the one to ask for help.”
