Any time a famous or successful woman speak about experiencing gendered violence, people try to muddy the waters with asinine "stan" discourse. When a post of mine defending Amber Heard got a lot of attention, I got comment after comment referring to me as an "Amber Heard stan." I'm sure she's a good actor, but I could barely tell you anything she's been in. That's not why I paid attention. These people couldn't comprehend coming to a famous woman's defense, not out of some parasocial attachment, but out of genuine concern about violence against women. Now we see the same points play out with Megan Thee Stallion. Some people on that doomed app Twitter are going about this like everyone defending Megan is a "stan," or that people only support her because they like her music. If you were already a fan of her music, that doesn't disqualify your support. Megan is fucking talented. But to act like that's the ONLY reason anyone would come to her defense is so perverse and misogynistic.
