                      hello && welcome! i’m luca and thank you for visiting

    you have stumbled across a kelvin based james tierius kirk of the starship enterprise-a.  while there may be slight influence from the original series info / personality / headcanons will all be pulled from the three reboot movies.  possibly canon divergent in the process.  whatever i think of will be noted on the verses page for easy access.  if you have any questions please feel free to ask <3     

   this will be a low activity blog.  i favor heavily plotted threads so please feel free to reach out if you feel the same.  on that note, memes are also a great way to get started as will probably not be throwing out a starter call for a good while.  if it’s in the tag then i’m still accepting it.  always feel free to respond if you have the muse to do so !

          it was another routine trip like they’d done hundreds of times before at this point.  a distress signal took them off course and a little closer to the neutral zone.  in fact, it was so routine at this point that jim remembered making a joke how many times they got pulled away from their deep space mission.  hard to discover when they kept going backwards.  although, the joke was purely for his nerves because as many times as they had done it there was a pretty decent percentage where it hadn’t gone favorably.

          on arrival, the airspace was dead.  no responses to any attempt to hail.  no shields.  yet no look of a battle, either.  from the outside, the little frigate looked to be in tact.  all they could discern was that the engine were dead and had been for most of their journey to that very location.

          handing over the chair, jim had beamed over with the away team to see if there were any survivors they could help.  again, they were presented with a whole lot of nothing.  he was stumped.  so, he beamed back in order to leave the others to start their investigation.  the enterprise was on alert for anything out of the ordinary but, otherwise, it was going to be a pretty uneventful day trying to datamine some logs.

                          until he started feeling weak.

          “ i’ll be fine, “ jim’s face scrunches rather dramatically and hands wave off any concern she may have.  it’s appreciated.  in fact, it’s more appreciated than he is ever willing to admit but there’s still that fear that admitting such a thing will make it explode in his face.  sometimes he still didn’t trust the connections he’d built.  “ could be a bug going around or...i dunno.  is it possible to get sick from the replicators? “

FILE - RELATIONSHIPS

          he won’t admit it, but a lot of what he experienced growing up ( his uncle ) makes it hard for him to watch to connect to people in any permanent capacity.  committed relationships are not something he strives for or even wishes for.  flings and one night stands are where it’s at.  friends with benefits, maybe if he thinks the friendship will survive any cut in sexual activity ( or if he thinks he can survive the emotional loss of the other person ).  he doesn’t like the idea of being weak in someone else’s hands.  he does not want to trust someone else with his emotional wellbeing.  there’s this deeply ingrained feeling that survival is him and only him.  anyone else will be disappointed in him, possibly angry and violent with him.

         which also means he’s terrified of said things.  he does what he can to avoid people being upset in his direction.  the less time you spend with or around people is less of a chance to do exactly that.

         pike and certain members of the enterprise crew are the first to introduce the idea that he can spend any amount of time with people with positive effect.  that pike constantly fought for him despite all attempts to put distance there shows him beyond words that he can trust someone else with his wellbeing.  unfortunately, that lesson comes to late.

         working so closely with spock reinforces the positivity he gets from pike.  there is honesty and cool demeanor ( no matter how much jim jokes ).  there is also the benefit of watching how spock’s relationship with uhura plays out.  sure, there is anger there and sure there are fights but they are nothing like he would expect.  no physical violence.  just....an awkward aura until someone actually talks about it.  he can handle that.  he thinks he can handle that. unfortunately, just thinking about something doesn’t stop the automatic reactions your defense mechanism has formed over the years.

          all that being said, jim comes to rely heavily on his platonic relationships.  he learns to put trust in those.

FILE - family 

         james spends a lot of his youth at the hands of an alcoholic and abusive uncle which not only leads him to run away from home and fall into crime, but it forms a lot of how he sees his position within starfleet.  he’s used to being blamed. he’s used to being told he was responsible for his father’s death.  there is a real lack of self worth hidden behind sarcasm and a thick layer of bravado. what pike might see as disrespect towards the captain’s chair is this weird anxiety of being in control of that much responsibility.  it’s so much to mess up and a lot of opportunity to make people angry or yell.  starfleet and especially the crew of the enterprise has become this family he’d never had ( aka an abusive uncle and a mother who was constantly off earth ).  

          pike himself is this father figure james hasn’t ever known and, therefore, doesn’t know how to truly appreciate until he’s gone.  james has this expectation of himself to fail, just like his uncle always told him he would.  he doesn’t really expect the title to stick but he wants it to.  when he and spock are being questioned about the events on nibiru there are tears in his eyes when pike says a tribunal has been called.  there are tears when the possibility of losing his ship ( and therefore his crew ) is brought up.  it’s losing these connections he’s never had before and ones he’s come to cherish.  it’s a loving family without judgement ( beyond playful quips, anyway ) and it’s a number of people he’s never been able to lean on before.
