This gives turntable scratching entirely new meaning; scratching rhythms into the locked groove at the center of vinyl records.

Walkmen - Postcards from Tiny Islands (Central Park Summerstage, August 16, 2009)
The first song I had ever heard the Walkmen play and from that moment, I was hooked.

There would seem to be nothing more obvious, more tangible and palpable than the present moment. And yet it eludes us completely. All the sadness of life lies in that fact.

"We've begun, at last, to wonder about our origins. We’re made of star stuff - star stuff, contemplating the stars. Organized collections of 10 billion-billion-billion atoms contemplating the evolution of matter, tracing that long path by which it arrived at consciousness here on the planet Earth and perhaps, throughout the cosmos. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself".

My Bloody Valentine - Soon (Hammerstein Ballroom, NY, November 1013)
The show was an entirely transcendent experience and I found myself completely immersed in a wall of sound and light. The sheer force of MBV's music can be seen to lie in the contrast of tranquil waves of vocals washing over a powerful and hypnotic undercurrent of sound. The intensity of their music also seems to channel the forces of energy at work within the universe, including the Earth's frequency of about seven hertz, which Kevin Shields says he "attempted to tune into" when "exploring the nature of consciousness" and which can be heard in their music. As someone else in the audience observed, the music of MBV is "aural fury like birth and death of the universe all at once"; two ends of time in a cycle of eternal return as unresolved fifths, persisting in primordial unity with such force it cannot be extinguished, but rather, carry on into eternity; however, extinguished it was so that I was left wanting for more as the band exited the stage, only to have played their "last show for a long time".
