this is a casualty of the time I spent not working on art as much due to my arm injury, for some ungodly reason I was gonna like, make all of these really polished and finished looking but like, honestly I really just made them to get a handle on how their face worked. But there’s been a few tweaks to their design since I’ve done these 

a more up to date WIP to demonstrate how they’ve developed (mostly their face is a bit less flat)

Scorpios rex/E750 speedpaint from a couple months ago, I just kind of wanted to figure out the design, didn’t get around to giving it all its quills ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m obsessed with this thing, Camp Cretaceous went and made a hybrid that nods to a lot of the concepts I really wanted out of Jurassic World  (like, how all the dino clones aren’t perfect replicas of the real thing, but actually Doctor Wu just played god until he made a functional animal that looked enough like a dinosaur for a dinosaur theme park) 

And then they made it really unsettling and I love it

Asked for requests on @rlyc00l​ so I had an excuse to draw these two for my birthday

I was going to do like, a quick sketch but then it turned into lineart and at that point color only made sense. But at least I didn’t do that thing where I turn it into a painting. Which idk i kinda want to actually paint it maybe on the side of doing other stuff.

Process gif. Most of my process for stuff like this is just me starting out without any good reference and then fixing things piece by piece.  (You’d think after drawing Rhys like a bazillion times  I’d start getting his face right the first time and not manage to do whatever the hell that was, and yet...)

Did that #samecharacter thing on twitter. I can probably draw Zer0 with my eyes closed at this point tbh. Like, honestly this doesn’t even account for half of my drawings of them. :)

(There’s a lot in here that I haven’t actually posted before: A few are from nearly-finished WIPs, 2 have been forever lost when my computer went apeshit, one is pretty much finished but I am entirely too embarrassed to post the whole thing of it)

I’m reposting this because tumblr is extremely broken and the first one I posted just straight up doesn’t seem to show up in any tags and it’s sad going to the zerhys tag and seeing “Updated 27 days ago” and watching that number keep getting bigger  Anyway it’s kind of different from the first time I posted it because now it has a subtle paper texture added. :P  (Kind of based on this post )  (If this doesn’t show up in tags either I don’t know what I’ll do except just be kind of aimlessly mad for a bit)

Back in 2018, over on my Zerhys blog I made the decision to draw some really dumb fanart  based on this post and then didn’t get around to it until earlier this year and then I got to the point where I needed to add the speech bubbles, got distracted by some other art, and forgot all about it for another few months and anyway here it is (featuring parts of my Zer0 h/c) Anyway this is the stupidest thing I’ve drawn in a long time but also this is how I imagine dating Zer0 is.

I mean, why give them a bunch of sharp teeth and these cool palps and mandibles if they’re not gonna use them in a very edgy desperate act of lethal self defense after getting their face all messed up?  (Most of that isn’t their blood but also they pass out like ten seconds later.)

“Of course I can smile / I definitely know how.” They open their mouth and squint real hard. “See? I’m showing joy.” 

Since people liked my Zer0 headcanon here’s some more features (admittedly, I’m still not totally consistent in how I draw them)?  Their upper “lip” can only really pull up into a snarl but their mouth is at least permanently curved upwards so they can approximate a smile.  The upper pair of  appendages are akin to palps, the lower are another set of “jaws” (kind of like what moray eels have, except on the outside, and like, way more mobile.)

Their actual lower jaw also splits apart but that makes for a pretty terrible smile.

My Zer0 headcanon WIP.  The left side of their face got some serious injuries that never healed correctly (three out of four of their eyes can see just fine despite a complete lack of pupils. Because...scifi...). And they’re just chock full of cybernetics.  Their mouth splits into the six parts that you would expect. :)

“Oh heck it’s Valentine’s day” I say, and frantically flip through my sketchbooks for some Zerhys sketch to fix up and color.  The original sketch was from 2018 lmao 

So like, you know that action movie “we both just survived this big explosion”/Character A pushes character B out of the way of falling rubble/“You looked dead for a second there and I got real scared but you’re fine” smooch scene? Yeah...

Sometimes I see a goofy pose on a pulp novel cover that sets off my urge to steal it for the purpose of drawing some incredibly dumb Zerhys. (using Zer0′s bl2 design because tbh I just like it better) This one is referenced from George Erickson’s cover to the 1960s novel “Like Wild” which is undoubtedly complete trash but dang it’s a fun stupid illustration. 

Anyways I get why people see Zer0 as kind of distant in their affection but tbh they sure seem to do a lot of over-the-top stuff for the sake of getting attention and also they’re a massive dork. I picture them as being like that kind of asshole cat that goes from doing their own thing to NEEDING attention right now this goddamn instant, whatever you’re trying to do be damned (Zer0′s kind of extra obnoxious about it because they think it’s funny) I might paint this later. We’ll see.
