Dylan had spent the last month and a half following his father on one of his tours. The trip was spent getting to become familiar with everything that he would be responsible for when he took the throne. But now, he was back to just having to be a student and he was more than happy about that. The trip back to Walt had left him hungry and sitting at a table at Pizza Planet, he was going to change that. “I’ve missed this,” he said, taking a bite of the pizza. It was a welcomed break from the overly lavish meals that were the norm on the tour - just something simple.

Gani had been at Pizza Planet, waiting to pick up a pizza to take over and have an impromptu sister-sharing night before she headed back to Camelot and Kally stayed here of all places, when she heard a boy talking about pizza like it was a gift from above. It made her smile and, never having been shy, she turned in his direction. Dylan, she thought his name might be. They were around the same age but she didn’t exactly have a lot of friends. “Do they not have pizza wherever it was you disappeared to?” she asked with a grin.

“I thought that something already existed to cure boredom, it’s called Netflix,” Gani joked. “It’s better than a prom because your feet don’t ache by the end of the night.” She winced just remembering the shoes she’d tried to wear to Valentine’s Day. “Besides, a college prom just seems lame, doesn’t it? Like we refuse to accept the fact that we’re growing up or something.”

Shoving his book aside, Samir noticed his own mug of coffee was empty too. “Of course, feel free to take a seat! I think I’m going to go for a refill myself.” A frown formed on Samir’s face as Gani said she wanted him to tell her about the Philosophy book. “You’d really be interested? And here I was, naively thinking I was going to get a nice break of school by talking to you.”

“Because loving the silence is way less creepy than loving the dark,” Gani teased, “but either way you’re covered. I’m as loud as I am luminescent, so consider your social contact quote filled.” Only a minimal part of her brain was wondering if she was being Too Much when they were just getting back into the groove of talking to each other, but that part was easily distracted. She shrugged innocently, grinning as she explained, “Oh, I’m more polite than I am interested truthfully, but I blame the subject, not you. I never really got philosophy. It’s like, is reading about how old guys thought about morality supposed to make me think a certain way? I listen to an old guy give me his opinion all the time already.” She smiled fondly, referencing and thinking of her father.

“Just fictional stuff,” Lyssa admitted, wondering if Gani would be sensitive about it or if she didn’t mind seeing other witches captured inaccurately in fiction. “So unless they accidentally stumble across something that makes their senses tingle, it would still be lost forever?” Lyssa hoped she didn’t sound dumb asking for clarification, but it was one of the well kept secrets of the world, how magic all worked, since most people tried to deny its existence at all. “Oh my gosh, thank you, you’re so nice!” Lyssa gushed when Gani complimented her, smoothing out her dress again. “I hope Sydney feels the same way. I don’t like like him or anything, but I don’t want to be a boring date, either.”

“Makes sense,” Gani smiled. “Because I’d hope there wasn’t a whole lot of non-fictional stuff about magic to read in the outside world, given how strict we are about other people finding out. Walt’s great in that way, at least - everyone here knows about magic, at least a little. The books get some of it right,” she allowed with a wink before refocusing on the question. “That’s the idea, yeah. Without something to pull them back, sometimes memories stayed locked too far into the brain to find. There are those who swear by the power of covens and joining together to unite several forces of magic, they say that sort of thing can help even without an anchor, but my family’s always been less of the coven type so I can’t say for sure.” Gani grinned at Lyssa and nodded. “If he’s smart at all, I’m sure he won’t find you boring. I’ve only talked to you a little but you’re anything but. I’m a great judge of character,” she insisted.

Same! Though, my reasoning was more that potion-making was an area that I lacked in and wanted to practice without the possibility of fucking things up permanently with magic. I’m a lot more neutral about being magicless here – maybe I’m just used to it – but when curses are your specialty, magic is more of an event than a lifestyle. So I can see how being without it is shitty to someone whose lifestyle it is. 

That’s cool, too - you might as well get a taste of potion-making if it isn’t usually part of the diet, right? And honestly, it’s so fun that I recommend it to anyone with even an iota of magical ability. An event versus a lifestyle is hard to imagine, though - I’ve always counted you among the most powerful people here in Walt, actually. It was mainly based on the strength of the curse your mother managed, but still! Curses are a part of magic that I know less about, so maybe we’re even in that regard. Are they fun to cast? Or is that a weird question?
