in case you're wondering how it's going for me so far:
i made some ocs for a story that i can best describe as "Fnaf, but not exactly" (for example, the two main characters are named "Cassidy" and "Elizabeth/Lizzie," and there's some. pretty similar plot details).
i'm getting ready to draw them pretty soon, actually!
you see, uh. the thing is that the story itself deals with some Pretty Heavy Subjects. like one of the main themes is "Loss/Corruption of Childhood Innocence," and "How Trauma Fucks A Kid Up Really Bad And Impacts Future Relationships They Have" so like. If That Gives You An Idea.
to be a bit more blunt, alongside child murder/harm/death, we've also got child abuse (in various forms PLUS CSA) and incest, kids/young adults having Really Bad coping mechanisms for said trauma (a major theme with Cass and Lizzie; they end up unintentionally (re)traumatizing each other on occasion, but they don't hate each other), Really Really Bad codependent relationships (...Cass and Lizzie again. no they will Not be breaking up, but they Will eventually get therapy so it can be healthier), and surreal imagery being used to convey someone's warped/flawed/inaccurate view of reality, for lack of a better term (i.e. depicting dissociation, derealization, and/or depersonalization, depicting a "sugarcoated" view of one's abuse/abuser/trauma, depicting how trauma impacts one's memories/view of the world, etc.)
and y'know. not fun fact, but definitely A Fact: the inciting incident that causes Shit To Get Bad for everyone is the kidnapping and murder of a young girl known in town as "Daisy-Belle." y'know daisies. the flower that can represent purity and innocence? and. it's the First Name Of The Character That Was Murdered? Y. Yeah, I'm Sure There's No Deeper Meaning Behind That, Not At All!
and like. This Is One Of Those Stories Where Those Themes Are Major. like, those themes run Deep. sure, there are Some bits of the story where The Themes don't necessarily need to be brought up (for example, while Certain Details surrounding Daisy-Belle's death certainly add to the impact it had on Cass and Lizzie, you don't necessarily need to go too deep into them to understand that her death fucked Both Of Them up really badly, and that her murder haunts Both of them into young adulthood), but there aren't Many.
which means it's Pretty Difficult to casually talk about.
like the Nicest i could put it, if needed, is to reference the characters' trauma vaguely, but even then if you read into it enough it becomes Pretty Damn Clear what's being referred to. so I'm Gonna Have A Time If Anyone Decides To Ask Me Questions About Plot Stuff!
(of course, i'm still doing my best to write about it respectfully and such; i won't write about anything in too much detail, unless the character(s) decide(s) to express feelings about it bluntly/in further detail, if that makes sense. it'll be mostly vaguely worded, but clearly implied, or there'll be metaphors, y'know?)
