Garden in july

So my garden survived the couple of heatwaves we had here. I had lots of zucchini that are now slowing down in the heat. Cucumbers and tomatoes are just starting, although I suspect they will suffer without the rain (it rained maybe 3 times in the last two months?).

Here is some of my pride and joy (excuse the weeds):

Hopefully August is going to be kind to the garden. There is hot days forcast for the next two weeks with temperatures up to 38° 💀

Passionflower for anxiety and sleep

Passionflower as a sleep remedy

Passionflower is most known for its use in sleep remedies, oftentimes alongside valerian, lemon balm, hawthorn, hops and other sleepy herbs. It has a sedative action, meaning calming. It can be used in insomnia, or mild sleep disturbances. It can help if you have trouble falling asleep or due to anxiety and stress. It works best if taken in a couple doses throughout the day, calming the nervous system, with the last dose an hour before bed.

Passionflower for anxiety

Passionflower can help with anxiety and nervousness as well. It is gently calming, helping with restlessness, irritability. It can be used for headaches and digestive issues due to stress or anxiety, as well as tachycardia (when your heart is beating fast) and high blood pressure, especially if from nervous origin (Hoffman).

Passionflower as a tea or tincture

Parts used: flower / aerial parts

Taste & smell: grass smelling; pleasantly sweet taste

Colour of tea: yellow-ish

I love plants, especially medicinal plants. I find them so fascinating, how they can do so much for us. I have been in love with plants since I was a kid, and would listen to my parents and grandparent talk about the uses of herbs, it felt so magical that you can find something in the forest or your garden that you can use for various ailements.

And this love is getting bigger with every year. Witnessing the power of plants, it really solidifies my belief that nature is the greatest healer.
