the backrooms movie has me thinking about a very silly self indulgent scarysweet concept. a still-life that is in love with the backrooms itself.....
and the backrooms loves it back. it Remembers what the still-life likes and makes more rooms with those features for it. maybe the still-life enjoys floral patterns or warm lighting. so the backrooms amalgamates some old motel decor and some Grandma’s Guest Bedroom nonsense for the still-life to take a nap in. worlds most healthy scary relationship
its name is noodle. hi noodle I love you. it’s very friendly and docile and it shows love by taking bites out of furniture and singing sweetly (but it sounds more like a wailing dog)
oops. obsessed with this thing. the little mouth whispers unintelligibly and the big mouth keens and sings and whines. it can stand on two legs but it’s wobbly
I love it when Whumpee is leaning on things. They're dizzy, nauseous, in too much pain to stand, or just plain tired, and they can't get by without some kind of support.
Leaning on cabinets and against walls in people's houses. Propping their head up with their hands at the dining table. Steadying themself against a banister on the stairs. Holding on to the post of the traffic light for dear life while they wait to cross the road because if they stand still unsupported they will fall to the ground.
It's such a small display of I am not feeling good, but once another character notices it becomes so obvious. This person is weak and vulnerable. Either I can help them, or I can hurt them further. It's not like they're in any position to stop me.
the hottest thing a guy can be is barely conscious on the floor while someone lifts his head up by the hair so that you can see his glazed out eyes and the blood running down his face
Whumper pinning whumpee down just to watch them panic and cry for a few minutes before starting in on whatever horrific thing they had planned.
Whumpee seeing their eyes like those of a shark, beady and soulless and haunting. That’s what Whumpee never forgets, the eyes.
very big fan of character lying broken and beaten on the floor, barely able to move, and getting one last kick to the ribs. and all they can do is flinch and whimper in pain 🫶
need That character absolutely delirious with fear. recoiling from everything. unable to parse what's happening around them, their mind stuck in fight or flight. shaking and hyperventilating. completely unconsolable even as they're wrapped in a crushing hug.

The niche trope that I get a kick of is people getting trapped under buildings/rocks/whatever, preferably with some part of their body crushed to the ground.
I think it appeals to the part of me that wants to be crushed under a lot of weight for sensory reasons
to suffer is (in)human. here’s some android/mechanical whump prompts for your android/mechanical whump needs :]
glitchy speech
pop-up windows or flickering lights in their vision
audible rattling or squeaking from joints/cogs that aren’t quite where they should be
sensors failing, losing all feeling on rusted casing
fans kicking into overdrive
system overheating, human caretakers snatching hands away because they literally burn to the touch
reverting to default ‘new user’ programs when their memory drive fails (forgetting caretaker’s face)
the absolute, total stillness of their body when caretaker finally shuts them off for repair
meet cute: it's raining and I see your battered bleeding body lying in the mud and I kick it slightly to see if you're dead
whump is such a strange thing for me. ‘oh im having trouble shouldering the burdens of daily life, let me play scenes in my head of someone getting the shit kicked out of them (fictionally), that’ll make me feel better’ and it DOES
“I can’t, I can’t—“
“I know it’s hard, but I need you to tell me, okay? I need to know what they did. I know, it’s really tough to say it, but I need to know. We need to know so we can help, okay?”
when character a is barely conscious and being princess carried by character b and when b goes to put them down a whimpers and fists their hand into the fabric of their shirt and b goes shhh shh shh and takes their hand in theirs while gently cradling their head oughhhhhh oughhhhh………….
i <3 when characters don't accept their deaths and die suffering and wanting
stoic acceptance is OUT. Fighting and pleading until the last minute is IN.
Todays vibe:
A whumpee with invisibility powers instinctively turning invisible when they’re scared
immortal whumpee captured and experimented on to find the secret to their immortality
