@gardenvarietyhuman
I mean, yeah.
Astronauts are so funny man. Here's just a couple of things I've found hilarious from this past week of space stuff:
It's probably already been spread around here enough already, but in case anyone's missed it; 7 hours after launch, commander Reid Wiseman, dealing with tech issues, uttered the generational quote "I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working."
After fixing the issues that were afflicting the onboard toilet, mission specialist Christina Koch (who has quickly become my favourite of the four) laughingly said āIām the space plumber, Iām proud to call myself the space plumber.ā
On Easter Sunday, the Artemis II crew hosted a makeshift egg hunt, by hiding packets of dehydrated scrambled eggs around their Orion capsule.
The way the crew always makes sure to make it very clear they're in space when doing interviews. From stuff like Wiseman just hanging out floating sideways on screen or Koch letting her hair loose so it can freely span out flowing around her.
While in transit, the crew decided to record a parody of those bad 80s sitcom intros where everyone turns and smiles at the camera.
When the crew reached the furthest point from Earth in the mission, they jokingly clambored over each other in an effort to get to the far side of the capsule, so that they could individually claim to be the furthest person from earth.
At the same time, on the ISS which was at the time on the other side of earth, the 7 astronauts onboard had a light-hearted race to the far side of the station, making jokes about being the furthest humans from Artemis.
On the way back to earth, NASA actually managed to establish an audio call between the crews of the ISS and Artemis II (where they shared the above info), and Koch called one member of the ISS crew, Jessica Meir, her "astro-sister" as the two of them previously spacewalker together in 2019. Meir then responded I'm so happy that we are back in space together, even if we are a few miles apart" (a few here being 230,000).
While Jeremy Hansen was doing an interview, Wiseman and Koch were just in the background swatting the mission mascot (a little moon plush toy named Rise) back and forth between each other.
apparently almost no oneās seen the video itās free real estate comes from so here it is
Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job era was peak Adult Swim. Condolences to those of you who were not yet born.
you know that program where they tried to train crows to pick up litter for a treat that backfired because they started attacking people to grab half eaten food wrappers out of their hand. i feel like 2012 tumblr did the same thing, but instead of litter it was covert bigotry and instead of crows it was a whole generation of leftists who now have moral OCD where their critical thinking should be
they became sort of like dangerous crows, you could say. i bet some of them were boys
okay i walked into that one
I read this as cows. Twice.

Chapter 29: The Price of Knowing You
Summary: Julian meets with Garak for a date in the Paldar sector.
Heād been watching Garak without really meaning to. When he propped his chin in his hand, his sleeve nudged the rim of his glass, nearly tipping it. He caught it at the last second, heat rising in his cheeks.
Garakās eyes moved to the glass, then back to Julian with a knowing smile.
āCareful, my dear,ā he teased affectionately. āIf I distract you this easily over dinner, I can only imagine what weāll be like at home.ā
What weāll be like at home. Like it was decided. Julianās heart skipped, meeting Garakās gaze with quiet boldness. He let the thought unfold, not as some distant future, but as something already taking hold. He imagined the rhythm of their days weaving together in small, certain ways.
Garakās modest house, with its narrow rooms and uneven stone floors, would shift to hold two lives instead of one. A second cup on the kitchen shelf. A medical datapad left beside Garakās latest tailoring on the table by the window. His lab coat draped over the back of a chair; Garakās fabrics stacked with their usual neatness on the benchtop.
Outside, the garden still sparseāvines just beginning to climb the trellises, seedlings tucked into beds they'd turned together. In the evenings, he imagined setting aside his work, pulling on his gloves, and joining Garak among the rows as the sun dipped. Garak kneeling to fix a bed while Julian watered the new shoots, their conversation meandering without urgency through the cool air.
Later, they would sit together on the garden bench, their bodies angled easily toward one another. Julian would lean his head against Garakās shoulder, the fabric warm with the dayās lingering heat. Garak would tilt his head just enough for their temples to rest together in quiet acknowledgment of belonging.
The garden would draw a soft circle around them, as though it had been waiting for this all along.
The clarity of it startled himāthe depth of it, too. He almost smiled at himself, embarrassed by the ease with which he could build a future out of a single phrase.
āWho says Iād mind the distraction?ā
Something softened in Garakās expression. āNo,ā he said, voice dipping a little, āI donāt suppose you would.ā

Iāve written almost a quarter of a million words about these two darlings, and I *still* canāt put my finger on just what it is about them that I find so utterly captivating. They make me smile like a dang olā fool.

As some of you may know, earlier this week Mike McFarland, the English voice of Master Roshi, underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor. The procedure was successful, and Mikeās spirits are high as he sets out on the road to recovery. But in the meantime heāll need a little help from us.
Proceeds will go toward hiring a live-in medical assistant for as long as necessary to help get this legend back on his feet.
Mikeās been an integral part of this industry for decades, not just breathing life into beloved characters like Master Roshi, Buggy, and Jean Kirstein, but directing landmark dubs such as the Full Metal Alchemist franchise, Tokyo Ghoul, and Attack on Titan. Those who know him best count Mike among the sweetest, funniest, most compassionate humans on the planet; always quick to lend a hand, give sage advice, advocate for the underdog or share in an adventure.
Heās given a lot of himself over the years, quietly and asking for nothing in return. Itās time for us to give some of that back.
Please consider donating. Every little bit helps. And by all means, get the word out!
Thank you!

Chapter 26: What the Roots Held in Silence
Julian wanted to say something that matched the moment, but everything that came to mind felt either too small or too clumsy. The house, the garden, this quiet glimpse of Garakās life, none of it deserved words that would flatten it into something ordinary.
āThank you,ā he said finally, and even as he spoke, he realized how inadequate it sounded.
Garak glanced at him. āFor what, exactly?ā His tone was light, but there was quiet in his eyes.
Julian swallowed, his fingers brushing absently over the crease of his trousers. āFor showing me⦠all of it. You didnāt have to.ā
Garakās eyes rested on him for a beat too long. āIāve wanted to,ā he said simply.
As Julian watched the light skip along Garakās eyeridges, a fragment of memory rose, something heād once read in an old Earth text. He hadnāt realized heād been carrying it with him until now, as though it had been waiting for this, a truth borrowed from someone wiser.
āāIn nature, nothing hides foreverā,ā he began. āāWhat grows in shadow is no less alive. It waits, unseen, until found by light. A bloom tells what the roots have held in silenceā.ā
Garakās expression shifted, as if the words had caught him off guard. A deliberate, almost thoughtful lift of a brow. āA rather poetic assessment, Doctor.ā
Julian met his gaze, steady. āNot my words, but they hold.ā

Chapter 25: The Waiting Gave Me You
For the first time, Garak brings Julian home. Not to the life heās built, but to the one he left behind.
Amid cracked stone and a garden long untended, they begin not just to speak the truth, but to live within it.
And when Garak finally leans in, Julian realizes he never stopped hoping.

āYou know,ā Julian said quietly, not looking up, āfor a long time, I told myself you didnāt care. That was the part that hurt the most.ā
His fingers turned a bit of loose soil. The silence between them settled like dusk.
āBecause if you didnāt care⦠then I hadnāt really lost anything.ā
