To be a woman on the open seas was a dangerous thing, but
aboard the Infinity, there was no where safer for her. On land
she had no where to run from men whoâd try to hurt her, do
things to her without her consent, but on the sea she could throw
them off the side and sail on. Leave them to the sharks and the
sea-maids said to drown a man before eating him. Not that they
existed, of course. They were the stories of men who hadnât seen
land in days, and were half-mad from sailing the endless warm waters.
Though she wasnât captain, no one dared question the incomparable
Kali, so she was allowed to spend time where ever she wanted
after doing her duties for the day. Sheâd spend time below deck
in a spare room usually used for storing loot too delicate for the
main hold, far out of the sight of the crew. It had a porthole in it
that let her look out when she wanted, maybe see some sealife
unafraid of the lumber monster floating through the sea.
Bored of practicing her footwork and swordsmanship, the pirate
pulled up a barrel and sat down, lost in thoughts, to look out the
porthole⌠only to see a face looking back. And not a reflection
either (unless sheâd gotten horribly masculine while out at sea)!Â
She murmured, bug eyed with mouth agape, before turning tail to
get up on deck and see who apparently had just fallen overboard.
That was the only way someone could be there at the portholeâŚ
it just had to be.
His eyes had laid themselves on that of a female.
Man were they odd. No tail, no gills, nothing that
even looked remotely appealing to him. What did
the other mermen find attractive in them? He
always saw them dragging around their bodies
as if they had the human on a leash. Though for
some reason the human wouldnât object... Hmm...
Then he noticed her looking at him, && he was put
a little on edge. Should he dive back under or should
he just stay on the ledge, look up at her when she
came to the balcony && start a chat like he was
something youâd see everyday?
Well, he went with the second option. If he was anything,
it wasnât a cowardly merman. When she appeared he said
the first thing that came to mind when he saw her wide eyes.
