Which are the best blankets for winter in India?
Which are the best blankets for winter in India?I think they all are fantastic, and are well worth every bit of money you pay for them. The light and smoothness of the texture makes them ideal for sleeping on, so they do stay on your bed all night. The softness is great to use at work or on a lazy weekend morning. I use a large pin stripe one for daytime but I also use a thin rayon knit in the morning and it is so luxurious. To what do you base your advice? For getting the best quality of soft and warm fabric I have used the two key words – I, use and it. The fabric has to be good quality. Use up to its best, and even better if you use up and start using a lot. Use it for summer and then also during winter.

Hannah Pardoe: I'm a freelance journalist in London and I come from Australia.Which fabric do you use and where do you get it from? The lightest and softest fabric I've found is a wool blend, which is from Tilda (pictured above) in Melbourne. I love that it is so soft and lovely, and I think it looks a lot nicer than some of the polyester in the market. And the price is amazing. It's inexpensive but extremely high quality. Most people would argue that wool is suitable for summer as well as winter. Do you agree?Yes, to a degree, because you can always wash it. But wool will lose the softness if it's not used up. The best thing to do with wool is to use it all up. If you only wash a few items at a time and not replace them regularly you will lose the softness.A good example is I use wool in the summer months, and I also use wool for knitted items. To get a good quality wool, go to fabric stores like Abigail Bousfield in London and look for a wool. I buy it in either I, use or light cream colour. In winter, I use it in a cream shade. I usually purchase an outer garment and a separate top. I wear the garment on the outside of the top in the winter and on the inside of the top in the summer. I get a lot of compliments on this combo and the design of the top is beautiful. The fabric of the top is from Celine (pictured below). It is a knit top and comes in a grey, dark grey and a true white. I love this look and the different texture. Can you also recommend wool for warm bags for sports?Yes, I'd like to, but I think it's not really available at all in the Indian market. Some wool items do come in the summer, but I'm not sure if it's wool or polyester. In general, I think the best place to look is in the US and Europe. In terms of warmth, wool does feel a bit heavier in the summer, and you'll feel cooler but if you wear wool in the winter, you will feel warm.A great knitted item is the Butterick Red Shimmer Knit Sweater (pictured below), which comes in four different colours. It's my favourite garment to wear for work. It's warm, soft and can be used during the winter and then come back in the summer and it still feels great. The colour is so light and soft, but the texture is great.
